What's the hyphenated word in Let 'Er Rip?

“Am I the Only One (Who’s Ever Felt This Way)” is a song that I've always enjoyed, but it tends to fall towards the back half of the album. Reactions to this song were quite varied as six participants placed this inside their top five (including three Top 3s). Unfortunately, Kanenrá:ke and jenglisbe become our first two participants to lose their top-ranked song. At the other end we have five bottom two rankings of which included three last place rankings from recordyear , Kris Kringle and mamooshka . This is also yet another cover as it was first recorded by Maria McKee for her self-titled debut album in 1989.

It's pretty common for country albums to have a lot of covers (especially in the 90s). I guess because the Chicks write a lot, too, it seems odd, but it's nothing new.

I actually like every song on this album, but I'm fairly happy with the few reveals thus far. "Let 'Er Rip" is a total jam tho and could have made it at least into the top 7.

Never Say Die going third SHOCKED me to my core, it was always my favorite album track (back when I thought Once You've Loved Somebody was a single :kii:). Otherwise I'm pretty happy, especially that OYLS is still in!

No, no, no. "I'll Take Care Of You" has no business in the bottom 2. That's Top 5 minimum. Mess!

"Loving Arms" has overstayed. "Once" had better be the top album cut!
They got the single picks totally right with this album too so I won't be the least bit upset if its an all-singles top 5 here.

What's the hyphenated word in Let 'Er Rip? It's nothing more than a common filler word that is often used in American culture (you could even refer to it as a slang term). You could essentially take out the word "'Er" and replace it with any number of other words such as "It" (Let It Rip...but Let 'Er Rip just has a better ring to it I think lol). The best example of that term comes from Larry the Cable whose phrase "Get 'Er Done" is often shared online in the form of GIFs and memes.

I was looking for something else but guess I get it now.

"Let 'Er Rip" departs us next and along with it four of the participants lose their bottom ranking song. Despite this picking up and handful of top five support, it was just never quite able to escape the bottom four as it got weighted down by the nine participants who put this in their bottom two. I've personally always quite enjoyed this song and whenever I revisit the album this is always a must listen for me. I also have a fond memory of seeing them perform this live back in 1999 on George Strait's Country Music Festival stadium tour. I know it’s a fan favourite and I think they still always perform it, but I’ve never really cared for it. I feel the same way about Sin Wagon.

I don’t think they really started writing heavily until Taking the long way, did they? Many of the songs on their first three albums were either covers or songs written by others, if I’m remembering correctly.

I think in this case it is a shortened “her” but kind of slang in the sense that trucks and machinery are often referred to as females so when men are testing stuff in the garage, one might say to the other “she’s done, boys. Let ‘er rip!” Maybe? Lol

Let ‘er rip!” I agree and I initially was going to go the route of explaining that in this specific case "'Er" was the shortened word for "Her" in the song. I was trying to find a simple way to explain it for someone outside of the States lol. And because of that I'm now going to have the phrase "GET 'ER DONE!" stuck in my head all day

I don’t think they really started writing heavily until Taking the long way, did they? Many of the songs on their first three albums were either covers or songs written by others, if I’m remembering correctly. One or more of them were part of 5 songs on Fly and then 4 songs on Home, so Taking the Long Way was definitely a big step up in that sense.

Do they even hyphen "goodbye"? Sorry I didn't know you were referencing a word within the song...I thought you were inquiring about the "'Er" lol. I've seen the word goodbye hyphenated as "good-bye" before, but it's definitely not the norm. On that note, let's go ahead and find out which two songs will miss the Top 5!

Stats for #7:
Our first song to leave this evening comes in as the third most polarizing. It accumulated the most top five rankings of any song thus far as well as well as the fewest bottom two rankings. Twelve participants placed this within their top five of which one put this as their top-ranked song.
Best rankdown position: 4 Worst rankdown position: 7 Average: 6.69 SD Rank: 3rd Highest

Unfortunately taylor becomes our third participant to lose their top-ranked song as "Loving Arms" bows out two spots shy of the top five. Speaking of, twelve others lose a top five ranking while four others lose a bottom two. Of those, both jamatthews83 and d3vin44 lose their last place. Despite sneaking into the top five early on, this more or less was always on pace to finish just outside of the top five if only because the majority of the rankings for this were in the top ten. This was first recorded and released by Kris Kristofferson and Rita Coolidge as a duet in 1973 on their album Full Moon.

You mean the one referenced in the lyric in the 2nd verse, which is "good-bye." As tim said, it's not the norm to hyphenate it, but that is an acceptable way to spell it.

Stats for #6:
The last song to bow out before the top five is our fifth least polarizing song. Ten participants lose a top five ranking which includes three who put this as their second favorite song. Only three lose a bottom two with one placing this as a questionable last place.
Best rankdown position: 2 Worst rankdown position: 7 Average: 6.62 SD Rank: 5th Lowest

It's a one-two punch for taylor who just after losing their top-ranked song now must say goodbye to their second favorite song. They were joined there by both @born and bboat11 as well as seven others who put this in their top five. Thanks to the early support, this managed to sneak into the top two. It remained a consistent top five contender for its early run, but once it was hit with its one of three bottom two rankings it began to slide back some. Speaking of, one of those three is a last place from none other than LBTrocks! It should be noted that our #6 and #7 songs were only separated by a mere two points, so it was relatively close at the end.
