Well since i see the discussion regarding streaming every week. I compared how the whole catalogs of artists did in 2021 versus 2020. Rolling Stone provides a weekly chart with the most streamed 500 artists (Audio only). For this purpose i compareded only artists that haven't released albums after mid 2019. I did this by memory so if i made some misstakes correct me (if a given artist has released singles/albums recently). So this way we can compare how the streaming of back catalogues is doing. Here are the first 3 weeks in 2021 vs 2020 On Demand Audio Streams. This are the first 50 artists that met the criteria. (i may have missed some). The whole point of this post is green wins. Streaming is fine. BUT, current music (or the lack of it) is R E D.
Artist | 2021 | 2020 | % | The Beatles | 100.6M | 99.5M | 1.09% | Kendrick Lamar | 90.3M | 84.6M | 6.31% | Queen | 89.7M | 62.3M | 30.55% | Rihanna | 87.8M | 69.8M | 20.50% | Beyonce | 75.6M | 79.1M | -4.63% | Frank Ocean | 72.9M | 65.9M | 9.60% | Fleetwood Mac | 72.7M | 40.3M | 44.57% | Imagine Dragons | 70M | 73.3M | -4.71% | One Direction | 69.6M | 41.1M | 40.95% | Bruno Mars | 64.8M | 54.4M | 16.05% | AC/DC | 55.2M | 38.5M | 30.25% | Nicki Minaj | 54.3M | 43.5M | 19.89% | Coldplay | 52.7M | 45.8M | 13.09% | 2Pac | 52M | 43.7M | 15.96% | Linkin Park | 50.9M | 42.4M | 16.70% | Michael Jackson | 50.9M | 40.2M | 21.02% | twenty one pilots | 50.4M | 55.7M | -10.52% | Lana Del Rey | 50.4M | 45.7M | 9.33% | George Strait | 50.3M | 40.6M | 19.28% | Eagles | 49.9M | 36.2M | 27.45% | Migos | 48.4M | 51.6M | -6.61% | Arctic Monkeys | 46.7M | 18.9M | 59.53% | Metallica | 46.4M | 39.9M | 14.01% | Adele | 46.1M | 43.2M | 6.29% | Led Zeppelin | 45M | 35.7M | 20.67% | Red Hot Chili Peppers | 44.6M | 41.1M | 7.85% | Usher | 44.5M | 37.8M | 15.06% | Five Finger Death Punch | 42.9M | 40.2M | 6.29% | Nirvana | 42.7M | 30.7M | 28.10% | Frank Sinatra | 42.2M | 37.3M | 11.61% | The Rolling Stones | 42M | 33.1M | 21.19% | Pink Floyd | 41.7M | 35.7M | 14.39% | Tim McGraw | 39.9M | 31.1M | 22.06% | The Lumineers | 38.8M | 36.9M | 4.90% | Green Day | 38.8M | 36.1M | 6.96% | Elton John | 38.7M | 40.8M | -5.43% | 50 Cent | 38.3M | 27.5M | 28.20% | Notorious B.I.G. | 37.4M | 32M | 14.44% | Billy Joel | 37.3M | 32M | 14.21% | JAY-Z | 36.8M | 39.4M | -7.07% | Tame Impala | 36.4M | 38.8M | -6.59% | Pink | 36.4M | 35.3M | 3.02% | Childish Gambino | 35.3M | 34.5M | 2.27% | Zac Brown Band | 34.2M | 32.5M | 4.97% | Elevation Worship | 33.9M | 29.1M | 14.16% | Creedence Clearwater Revival | 33.6M | 23.5M | 30.06% | Sia | 33.4M | 21.6M | 35.33% | Jack Johnson | 33.2M | 30.4M | 8.43% | Justin Timberlake | 32.6M | 27.5M | 15.64% | Johnny Cash | 32.1M | 26.1M | 18.69% |
P.S: Is TikTok responsible for Arctic Monkeys & One Direction ?

Basically why we've been having the weekly discussion of 'why is radio so impactful on the charts in the streaming era?'

Does this count as a second chart run for "Blinding Lights"? technically, yes. it left the hot 100 for a week and re-entered, splitting its chart run in two.

Hot take: Drake goes to Tampa with Abel and announces his album release date as well as an all Canadian collaboration with The Weeknd, Justin Bieber, Shawn Mendes, Avril Lavigne, Nelly Furtado, Shania Twain, Alanis Morisette, Paula Abdul, Celine Dion, PartyNextDoor, Nav, Tory Lanez and even one hit wonders like Snow and Daniel Powter. Come again?

AC/DC, Coldplay, Lumineers, Green Day, Tame Impala all released albums after mid 2019. And I have no idea why Arctic Monkeys would be up nearly 60%, I would not even expect TikTok to have that crazy of an effect. Like, Fleetwood Mac's hype was huge last year, and AM still saw a bigger rise. Now, of course Fleetwood Mac already had a lot more streams, so they gained more stream in absolute terms. But I have not heard as much about any AM song as I have about other classics in the same realm like 'Sweater Weather', 'Tongue Tied', 'Electric Love', etc. or even the 'Dear Maria, Count Me In' that seems to be currently doing the rounds. As for One Direction, they had the whole '10 years' thing going on last year.

Is everything i wanted gonna be on the new album? Stranger things have happened, but technically it already appears on some editions of when we all fall asleep, where do we go? so most likely, no. I'd guess "my future" and "Therefore I Am" take up two of those slots, while "No Time to Die" is probably gonna be relegated to bonus track on some editions.

drivers license is back to #1 at Apple Music. Lil Durk songs are already starting to drop which probably means they won't have much longevity.

I'm actually scared that CMBYN might suffer the same fate of Holiday. I hooe not, based on the clip he posted before, it's a good song.

Does this count as a second chart run for "Blinding Lights"? Technically, but not on the same level as "The Twist" which had a full chart run, fell off, and then re-entered for a second chart run about a year later when its popularity was revived all over again.

Cardi B said on Twitter that she has an "announcement" coming tomorrow. Probably more new music on the way.

Yaβll think BL can overtake DL on super bowl week ? I don't think so but many people do. I hope it happens though If someone can show us what the Spotify numbers looked like for J.lo/Shakira after the Super Bowl we could get an idea of how much of a boost BL will get. Itβs kind of tricky though because J.lo/Shakira didnβt perform any current songs during their set list. So it will be interesting to see what the Super Bowl does for both BL and SYT since they are both βcurrent hits.β The closest example I can think of is βMillion Reasonsβ re-entering all the way back to #4.

(Of course, 7R would rechart, and add to the list of #1's that charted with BL. This would leave Shallow as the only post Super Bowl LIII #1 hit to not chart with BL.)

Drivers License is below 2 million streams on Spotify US today, its lowest number since its release day. drivers license's Spotify US numbers every Sunday since it's release: 10-01-20213,857,054 17-01-20213,461,560 24-01-20212,447,124 31-01-20211,857,349 It's very obvious it hasn't stabilized yet. It's numbers next week Sunday will probably be even lower.
