Let's get to the good stuff...and some others.
2014 Top 40s That I Really Want to Talk About Part Two: Big Names, Country, and the Best of the Best
I remember when big name artists would perform Disney songs in the 90's and top the charts, while outperforming their movie counterparts. I find it a little funny that the opposite happened here, though this still certainly did well.
Demi Lovato - Let It Go Peak: #38 | Weeks: 20
I did not think this was a particularly good year for country on the YE chart, but this song making the YE would have decidedly been an exception to the rule.
Eric Church - Give Me Back My Hometown Peak: #36 | Weeks: 20
This would have been my highest country song, had it made the cut. What can I say? I really like Miranda Lambert.
Miranda Lambert - Automatic Peak: #35 | Weeks: 19
Demi went from this to "Cool for the Summer" in a year. Quite the shift there. Also, Cher Lloyd...grumble grumble
Demi Lovato f/ Cher Lloyd - Really Don't Care Peak: #26 | Weeks: 18
As far as I'm concerned, this is when the cracks of Katy Perry's reign over pop started to show.
Katy Perry - This Is How We Do Peak: #24 | Weeks: 18
He had worse moments before, but I'd argue that 2014 was when Eminem really started to become a shell of his former self, and that especially became clear when he started trying to capture the "Love the Way You Lie" lightning in a bottle over...and over...and over...
Eminem f/ Sia - Guts Over Fear Peak: #22 | Weeks: 3
I miss John Newman.
Calvin Harris f/ John Newman - Blame Peak: #19 | Weeks: 20
These female country singles that just missed are pissing me off, because Nashville pushed bro country so hard instead, and country's perception, as a whole, suffered because of it. I'm not even that big of a fan of country, and I'm STILL pissed about female country's lack of representation until recently.
Carrie Underwood - Something in the Water Peak: #24 | Weeks: 20
There's a universe where this is the big hit from this Coldplay era and not "A Sky Full of Stars". I want to check this universe out sometime.
Coldplay - Magic Peak: #14 | Weeks: 14
This was the first time where I realized that my view of Lana Del Rey being overrated was probably wrong. I'd argue that this is better now than it was in 2014.
Lana Del Rey - West Coast Peak: #17 | Weeks: 2
The first of two songs that would have challenged for my #1...and, I imagine, quite a few of your #1s, despite it not really being one of the highlights from To Pimp a Butterfly.
Kendrick Lamar - i Peak: #39 | Weeks: 11
And here's the other. I never thought Coldplay trying to sound like a cross between Sigur Ros and Bon Iver would work this well, but, by god, it does.
Coldplay - Midnight Peak: #25 | Weeks: 3

Demiβs Let It Go cover pales in comparison to the original.
I wouldβve probably made my top 10, though the album version >>>
I wonβt lie, whenever I thought of Automatic, Iβm guilty of thinking of Buckleyβs video where he spins it into her being a boomer.

Wow i never knew Midnight charted! it's one of my faves by Coldplay, reminds me of The 1975's instrumentally/vocoder songs. Let It Go, Really Don't Care, Magic, Midnight and West Coast all would have been pretty high for me, all at least top 40. This is how we do also wouldn't have been too low, probably top half

"Blame" getting caught between years is a disaster
Also yeah the lame "a sky full of stars" becoming the big hit from that era is a disaster too

- "really don't care" amuses me because 1) cher lloyd's role on it is having a rap verse, and 2) she's only on the song for like 15 seconds
- "this is how we do" sounds like a parody of a katy perry song
- I legit forgot about "guts over fear" until now
- "blame" would've been pretty high on my list, it's much better than the calvin harris song that actually made the list
- I'm one of the weirdos who actually likes "a sky full of stars" but it would've been cool to rank "magic" too
- "west coast" is still easily my favourite lana del rey song, would've been really high for me
- my #1 would be very hard to top just because I have a lot of nostalgia over it but "magic midnight" would've come close

Okay, a couple of people have mentioned to me and wrip that they need to have a little bit more time, so I'm offering up (likely) the only extension that I am going to give here. It's just a couple extra days, as the new deadline day is March 23rd.
If you do not wish to be tagged, or if you DO wish to be tagged, make sure to let me know! And keep reminding me if I forget to do so.

A bit of an early time for the reminder, but I wanted to make sure that I posted it today and didn't forget to. We're about at 25 rankings, including the co-hosts. It was always going to be difficult to duplicate, but we haven't gotten halfway to the submission total for the 2016 re-do. I'd like to get to at least 2/3 of the 2016 total.
If you do not wish to be tagged, or if you DO wish to be tagged, make sure to let me know! And keep reminding me if I forget to do so.

I'm scared of how many songs I'm re-remembering and really liking. in my view, a very strong year. i also think it's my first Spotify year, so that explains it, I was all fired up listening

Well, I wasn't planning on doing a (very slightly) larger ballot update, but we got two rankings overnight, and this might very well be the last ballot update I do (for this RD, I'm not stopping ballot updates entirely), so screw it, nine posters instead of eight this time.
Ready to step up to the line: π
³π
Έππ
²π
Ύ, weaver, tallen2001, alexcuse, Sambalada, aerodynamite, π²π½'πΌ.π°πΏ, Daryl the Beryl, and GP!
- The same six songs that have spent every movement in the top ten are still there, and, once again, none of them are lower than #7.
- Speaking of "none of them are lower than #7", barring something truly unprecedented happening, the top seven appear to be locked into the top ten. Two songs, in particular, are at least 300 points ahead of #11.
- The song that was #1 at the end of the previous ballot update is no longer there, as two songs were #1 over the course of the ballot update this time. The current lead for #1 over #2 is just 13 points, but both have a significantly larger lead over #3. The lead is larger there than that of the gap between #3 and #7.
- The "shockingly low" song from past ballot updates is steadily moving up, close to the top 15 now.
- Let's swing to the other side of the rankdown now, where things have been happening, to put it mildly. Four different songs spent time at #100 this update, with only one of them not being one of the four songs that have continued to spend every movement in the bottom ten. The song that was #100 at the end of the last ballot update is no longer there, though it remains pretty low. The new #100 is brand new, getting to the very bottom for the first time very recently. The gap between #99 and #100 is only 14 points, and the bottom six are all within 100 points of each other.
- #10/#11 and #90/#91 update: Just a single point separates #90 and #91, so it's anybody's race to the bottom, but the more intriguing thing, to me, is the gap between #10 and #11: Seventy points currently separate the two songs on the top ten fringes.
- THRESHOLDS DON'T LEAVE! #1 is the first song to reach 2300 points, though #2 isn't far off. The top eight are the first eight songs to reach 2000 points, while 33 songs have moved past the 1500 point threshold, and just 27 songs have yet to get to 1000 points. Some of the bottom feeders finally gained traction, meanwhile, with only three songs yet to crack 500 points.
- Guess what else is here? No, not ties yet, standard deviations. Would it surprise you to learn that the song with the highest SD in the last couple of ballot updates gasp is still there?!?! Its SD continues to shrink, but only by a little, but more noteworthy is how far it fell compared to where it was in the last ballot update, now out of the top 40 entirely. The second highest SD remains the same, too, though it has also fallen, this time out of the top half. The lowest SDs, meanwhile, continue to gravitate more toward the top end of the RD, with four of the top five lowest SDs being in the top ten. Most of the remaining lowest SDs are all songs in the bottom 20 or lower.
- Okay, NOW it's here...
While we are not sounding the alarm, the two ties in this ballot update are both fairly high ones, being located at #15 and #25.

finally sent, this list was worse than I remembered it being before this opened but much better than it was seeming when I was first making my list (with some exceptions I found the top 25 or so of the year end to be absolutely putrid lmao)
kind of shocked myself with how high I ranked some songs, looking forward to watching the results!
