Gabby has had two singles and one album. She’s still very new compared to Carly and Ashley as she has really only started to breakout over the past year. Gabby will be in this category eventually no doubt, but this year is a bit premature. I guess it could still happen maybe, but this year I’m expecting her to take new female vocalist, which realistically she should’ve taken it last year. Agreed, although I could see Gabby also being that person that has a lot of radio success, but awards shows - show no interest, like Kane Brown or Russell Dickerson or Dustin Lynch. I mean look at the Grammy noms - Ingrid got them, not Gabby. I will say the Grammys are typical for, especially in the Country categories, basically ignoring radio success. I was surprised Gabby didn't have any nominations there, but I think she'll have better luck than Kane/Dustin in the CMAs and ACMs. She was nominated for Single of the Year most recently, so that's something. In the next couple of years we're about to have a really competitive Female Vocalist category (as it should be). Names that have never been nominated for the main category, that I could see breaking through soon-ish, are Carly Pearce, Gabby Barrett, Ingrid Andress, and Lauren Alaina if she can get a hit with her current single. Mixed in with the current bag of Carrie/Miranda/Maren/Kelsea/Kacey/Ashley, that brings possibly 10 actual competitors which really excites me. Such a refreshing change from just a few years ago when Reba or Martina would randomly be nominated as the fifth artist for kind of no reason.

Such a refreshing change from just a few years ago when Reba or Martina would randomly be nominated as the fifth artist for kind of no reason. While I love this, it just pisses me off that hundreds of up and coming females have come and gone due to the inequities of the past couple of decades. The fact that we went over a decade with only two viable winners is disgraceful considering all of the women, new and old, who were active that entire time - but never shown the light of day, and thus missed out on nominations and wins they absolutely deserved. I guess my point is there was never a lack of active women in the genre, there was just a lack of attention and exposure and it took tomato-gate and high profile country stars, male and female, just to get to a point to have more than five viable contenders. That said, I love that there are more names than slots in the category, it hasn’t been this way since the mid 90s, really.

Well, they could start by “graduating” women instead of just the men. Gabby seems kinda horrible but her first single is way bigger, 2nd single shaping up to be and her album (still in the top 25 country albums) than anything Carrie or Miranda have done this year.

Just FYI, I'll try to update the thread - but this is what is being announced. Looks like no new duo/group award again this year.
At 8:30 am on CBS This Morning, Ballerini and Brothers Osborne will announce the nominees for Entertainer of the Year, Female Artist of the Year, Male Artist of the Year, Duo of the Year, Group of the Year and Single of the Year.
Afterward, ET will reveal the nominees for New Male Artist of the Year, New Female Artist of the Year, Album of the Year, Song of the Year, Video of the Year and Music Event of the Year on ETOnline.com.

Given the amount of effort and how all over the place Carrie was in support of the Christmas album in addition to the special, I’m pretty surprised by this.

I didn’t either, but it is what it is and all of these ladies are deserving. Technically, Carrie hasn’t released anything “new” to country radio in over a year, all of these ladies have been dominating the charts - so there’s no reason to be upset.

I see Dierks held onto this token Male Vocalist nod.
Single of the Year being all women is pretty awesome to see.

The Cadillac Three?? What? Hahaha It was either them or Midland for that slot, but neither really feels worthwhile.

I am stunned and thrilled Carly Pearce made it into female, I doubt she wins (I have to think Maren will win that) but man I am amazed she made it through.
Other thoughts: Sad but not shocked no women in the EOTY category, like I guess maybe swap out Chris Stapleton for Miranda Lambert but in general EOTY is stacked already as those 5 are arguably the faces of the genre right now.
What the fuck at Cadillac Three being nominated for group. I thought for sure one of Rascal Flatts or Midland would have gotten in, hell Runaway June is more relevant.
Carrie Underwood not getting in for Female at first I was shocked but the more I think about it, I think the ACMs got the right 5 women that were the most relevant this past year. I mean Carrie had the Christmas album but I wouldn't be shocked if the ACMs didn't really factor it in and if you remove that besides name recognition I feel like all 5 of Kelsea, Ashley, Carly, Maren, and Miranda had bigger years this past year in country music
Thrilled to see Single of The Year be all women.

Thoughts on the rest of the nominees:
New Female: Nothing too shocking I imagine this is going to one of Gabby Barrett, Ingrid Andress or maybe Mickey Guyton. The former due to radio success and the latter two due to critical acclaim
New Male: Genuinely have no clue who will win this. Maybe Jimmie Allen? Maybe HARDY? I am stumped on this one
Album: Chris Stapleton's to lose but I am annoyed only 3 of the 5 albums are good (Stapleton, Brothers, and Ashley McBryde) while the other two are not.
Song: Would have loved to see "More Hearts Than Mine" or "I Hope You're Happy Now" or "Die From A Broken Heart" but there was worst selections so I am not that annoyed
Video: Okay I like "Bluebird" but the music video was nothing special from what I remember. Still not a bad selection of noms,
Music Event: "I Hope You're Happy Now" should win this I would imagine

I know music videos are not treated as important by country community but these nominations are so weak aside from Bluebird.

Lol at Carrie and John for Video... I wonder if there’s even a shot there?
Glad to see Carrie’s name, nonetheless.

I'm not surprised to see them snub the Christmas album for Carrie, but to then give her a token VOTY nomination is weird and random.

Wish Carrie was in Female, but she was in an off year pretty much so I understand. Absolutely love seeing Carly get her first female nomination.

I personally think it's Kelsea's time for Female Artist. She's paid her dues, had a relatively big year, and released two albums. Hoping for her or Carly.

Aside from a few noms which I don't think should have been there or there are better options, I don't have much negative comments on this year's nominations. I'm more excited for the performances.

LMAO had a paragraph here for no reason; Artist is different from Vocalist and so I see why Carrie was not put in since it wasn't a full era. The VOTY nod is still confusing tho, lol, but hey!
EOTY surprises me not one bit after CU was already the category's sole woman in 2020...this is Luke Combs' award without 3/3456ths of a doubt.
Very stoked to see Ashley in AOTY and am rooting for her there. Single of the Year being all women is what we need to start seeing more of. Incredible job with that category.
