In terms of females I wonder how cardi's album will perform, and if it'll be as successful as her first one was. Taylor, ariana and her seem to be the 3 top females in the industry right now. I’d say Billie Eilish is bigger than Cardi. Definitely worldwide, wouldn't really say that in the US honestly based on recent single success

That's the thing though. Why didn't radio pick it up in July when it was peaking? Why play it now all of the sudden? It's an R&B/Hip-Hop song with Chris Brown and Young Thug. Obviously Pop radio was not going to be rushing to play it lol. After it got moderate play it actually reached #1 in callouts, which is why it has then went so far out at radio. Also Urban & Rhythmic been supporting this since the moment it came out. It's currently in its 22nd week atop Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay, 3 weeks left to match the longest-running record that he also currently holds with "No Guidance". Pop was just late as usual.

Thank you "drivers license" for keeping strong and stopping Chris Brown from getting a potential #1 hit. Your contributions are much appreciated. 🙏

Welp that didn't take long: Seriously? And to think I was hoping the industry was finally stepping towards some change. The only thing we can do is promote a vocal backlash against it, I guess, though I don't know if they'll pay much attention to it. Yea, because we must hold a grudge forever and never forgive!

I’d say Billie Eilish is bigger than Cardi. It goes Ariana, then Billie, then Taylor, then Cardi, and why not throw in Dua Lipa in there as well along with Megan and Doja following right along as runner ups I feel like those last three are not going to drive huge business on name alone, unlike the first 4.

I don't know why people still have a problem with Chris Brown unless they've been abused by him personally. If it's about Rihanna incident, they should take a chill pill cause she forgave him and worked with him afterwards.

Looks like Ritt Momney’s radio gains have finally started to stall out a bit. Let’s hope this is the beginning of the end for him.

I don't know why people still have a problem with Chris Brown unless they've been abused by him personally. If it's about Rihanna incident, they should take a chill pill cause she forgave him and worked with him afterwards. Well... According to a CNN article (link edition.cnn.com/2019/01/22/entertainment/chris-brown-criminal-history/index.html)Some of Brown's other troubles include: - Being accused of threatening a woman with a gun [...] in 2016. A nine-hour standoff with police ended in Brown's arrest on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. His attorney at the time, Mark Geragos, called the charges "demonstrably false" and the case has not gone to trial.
- Brown's ex-girlfriend, actress Karrueche Tran, obtained a five year restraining order against him in 2017, alleging he had threatened her with violence. The model alleges in court that Brown texted her violent threats, such as, “I can get my money back and I’m tired of playing games,” along with, “Bitch I will beat the s— out of you” and “I promise you I will make your life hell.”
- In May 2018, an unidentified woman reportedly filed a civil lawsuit against Brown, alleging she was sexually assaulted at the singer's home by one of his friends. Brown's attorney denied the allegations.
- And in July, Brown was arrested after a concert in Florida for an outstanding felony arrest warrant stemming from an allegation he punched a photographer at a Tampa nightclub in 2017. That case is still pending.
And here is another infamous case involving another famous figure (courtesy of People - people.com/music/chris-brown-a-timeline-of-the-singers-legal-trouble/)
Brown and his entourage clash with fellow singer Frank Ocean and his group outside a West Hollywood recording studio, reportedly over a parking space. One of Brown’s entourage reportedly used a homophobic slur against Ocean and Brown allegedly punched Ocean and threatened to shoot him, though the latter declines to press charges.Meanwhile, this article specifically covers his history of violence toward women: www.rollingstone.com/music/music-lists/timeline-of-chris-browns-history-of-violence-towards-women-103402/robin-roberts-interview-march-2011-103528/

If it's about Rihanna incident, they should take a chill pill cause she forgave him and worked with him afterwards. When there's so many non-dirtbag artists out there working so hard for exposure and any kind of commercial success, we're allowed to root against the trash to make room for them. Chris Brown is hardly the only artist I feel this way about he's just a particularly egregious example.

spiritboy To summarize it: his history of violence extends beyond just the Rihanna incident (which may I remind you, nearly killed her). She forgave him, but that's sadly the normal mindset of several domestic abuse victims, especially given how young she was when the incident happened. It seems his aggressive behaviour has been attributed to bipolar disorder, but that's no excuse. As you can see on the previous message, he's had an extensive timeline of other instances of violence, including with former partners of his. You can deny them or claim they were dismissed in court, but guess what, so were R. Kelly's allegations back then. Where there's smoke, there's fire, especially when we already have evidence from what happened in 2009. And unlike R. Kelly, who helped shape modern R&B and inspired so many talented artists, Chris Brown is nothing special. I rest my case. Edit: Also, what suzcruz7 said. Couldn't have put it better myself.

Wow, didn't know about other incidents, especially holding a woman hostage is horrifying. Why isn't he cancelled then? Because of very strong connections in the industry?

Wow, didn't know about other incidents, especially holding a woman hostage is horrifying. Why isn't he cancelled then? Because of very strong connections in the industry? Pretty much. His first single post-Rihanna featured Lil Wayne, who was at a career high at the time. "Look At Me Now", his first top 10 hit after the incident, featured Lil Wayne and Busta Rhymes. He also received consistent support from Drake, Nicki Minaj, and Justin Bieber - which naturally opened the doors for rap and R&B newcomers to be willing to collaborate with him. Secondly, there's the issue of misinformation. As you were able to witness yourself, many people think Chris Brown is hated solely because of the Rihanna incident (which for me, is already enough, given the gravity of what happened), but his violent history has continued to this day. Additionally, his core demographic either doesn't care (the male listeners) or defends him (the female listeners - sadly). As much as many music fans want him cancelled, the only ones capable to 'cancel' artists are within the industry - that's what happened to Janet Jackson and The Chicks (and their 'offenses' were ridiculous, and a product of personal vendetta against them). For some reason, he's still worth a lot for the genre, so I don't think an industry boycott is coming anytime soon.

But he is not really that popular among the streaming audience - he has only two songs over 500 million on Spotify for instance. He is 57th most listened in the world right now, even after the fresh remix.
It's radio that is keeping him as an (relative) A lister + the great connections with Drake and other rap/r&b heavyweights.

We're seriously allowing 6ix9ine, Kodak Black, and a song called CHICKEN TENDIES on the charts in 2021, aren't we...

How come 6ix9ine will manage to chart? I thought his song made zero noise on streaming, and was only boosted by YouTube views on an already-deleted video.

If spicy's predictions are true, then Up is a shoe-in for #1 if it is performed at the Grammy's. Up should continue to cut into dl's lead next week.

I love seeing all the green for the predictions, I hope the charts do get stronger this year even though I fear that the chart weakness will persist if music consumption is more fragmented.

For some reason, he's still worth a lot for the genre, so I don't think an industry boycott is coming anytime soon. Um, just to clarify, Chris Brown never received "consistent support" from Drake. Him and Drake famously had a brawl in a nightclub in 2012 where he got injured. He would diss Drake in songs and interviews in the years after and they spent the next several years hating each other and having issues with each other. It wasn't until 2018 that they got over their beef and then No Guidance came a year later. The rest of the industry was always cool with Chris Brown. I don't remember any artist coming out to speak against him or refuse to collaborate with him. His 2009 album flopped and he kinda took a break in 2010, but he was still doing high-profile collabs in that time and by 2011, he released F.A.M.E., an album he won a Grammy for. The real defeat I believe he suffered (and one he's made clear over and over again that he isn't over with) is that he would have been a much bigger artist if that assault never happened but as far as success goes, he never stopped being successful, unfortunately.
