RIP Up plus Bieber and Selena/DJ Snake. finally interesting week Plus Bebe Rexha, Juice/Post/Clever, the full tracking week for M5/Megan, and Lil Baby/EST Gee. Finally some fresh blood on the Hot 100 in 2021, hopefully coming in to sweep away songs that have been charting for way too long.

Very happy to see such a busy tracking week coming up!
Also, based on today's radio update, "Lifestyle" may well end up getting sacrificed for the Maroon 5 song. Sorry, Jason.

Beautiful Mistakes is nowhere to be seen in the US Spotify Top 200 today. That will probably change as soon as tomorrow, but I do find that interesting.

Aww...while I would be happy to see Megan getting a pop crossover moment (especially since her verses are the highlight of the song), "Lifestyle" is the better song overall, despite being unapologetically corny. Guess we'll have to wait and see, but "Lifestyle" is much more a Derulo song than a modern-day Maroon 5 one, so I think they would be able to co-exist.

"Lifestyle" grew on me a lot and I'd much prefer it to stick around over Beautiful Mistakes. I just have a feeling it's not long for this world lol, especially because it still hasn't reentered the Spotify top 200. I could be wrong obviously. There's always the potential Tik Tok factor.

Girls Like you is definitely their biggest hit. I feel like that was a one time thing in their career. #1 hits like Makes Me Wonder, Moves Like Jagger, and One More Night invalidates this whole one time thing. In fact, I'd even argue that MMW and MLJ were bigger at their peaks than GLY. OMN and GLY are long-running #1's that benefitted/took advantage of weak competition. A one time thing would be like what Truth Hurts was for Lizzo. For sure the songs you listed were bigger, but Iβm talking about billboard charting wise. Thatβs all

Maroon 5's storied history of collaborating with POC acts at the height of their popularity.2012 - Payphone (feat. Wiz Khalifa) 2014 - Animals (Remix) [feat. J. Cole] 2015 - Maps (Remix) [feat. Big Sean] 2015 - Sugar (Remix) [feat. Nicki Minaj] 2016 - Don't Wanna Know (feat. Kendrick Lamar) 2017 - Who I Am (feat. LunchMoney Lewis) 2017 - Cold (feat. Future) 2017 - Cold (Remix) [feat. Future & Gucci Mane] 2017 - Whiskey (feat. A$AP Rocky) 2017 - What Lovers Do (feat. SZA) 2018 - Wait (Remix) [feat. A Boogie wit da Hoodie] 2018 - Girls Like You (feat. Cardi B) 2020 - Nobody's Love (Remix) [feat. Popcaan] 2021 - Beautiful Mistakes (feat. Megan Thee Stallion) I'm surprised they haven't worked with Young Thug, Doja Cat, Roddy Ricch, Lil Baby, DaBaby, Gunna, etc yet. They have the most boring, predictable collaborations. Pick any black artist that's doing well commercially and there's a high chance they'll be featured on a Maroon 5 song soon. So I see where you're going with this, and I think that the Red Pill Blues era was the most problematic (especially their 3 biggest hits from that era, Don't Wanna Know, What Lovers Do, and Girls Like You), however the list is a bit misleading, as many of the remixes you mention weren't nearly as popular as the original (Animals, Maps, Sugar, etc.), and many of the artists weren't quite at their peak yet (Kendrick) or had already peaked and were in decline (Nicki).

if "SugarCrash!" charts, will ElyOtto be the first transgender artist to get on the Hot 100? Excluding Teddy Geiger who wasn't out yet at the time of her hits Sam Smith had come out as genderqueer/non-binary by the time Dancing With A Stranger and How Do You Sleep were hits, iβm pretty certain.

loveless "Dancing With A Stranger" was still charting when Sam came out as non-binary, and both "How Do You Sleep" and "Diamonds" were released afterwards. Non-binary and transgender are different, though, so they don't apply here anyway (do correct me if I'm wrong). I'm surprised no transgender artist has ever charted on the Hot 100.

I've always wondered what would have been had they stayed with their "Songs About Jane" album sound, that was their best sound in my opinion Probably would have flopped sadly enough. Before Moves Like Jagger, they were already showing diminishing returns with their singles and albums. That song was a turning point in their career. At the time, I think I remember it sounding different for them (though listening back to it, Iβd say itβs closer to their earlier sound than most of what theyβve put it since). After that, they continued to drop their original style in favour of present-day elements.

There is some disagreement about it, but I think most non-binary people would also identify as transgender. Sam Smith specifically has said that they donβt consider themselves cis, so I would definitely count them as an openly trans artist.

plus Bieber and Selena/DJ Snake. finally interesting week Plus Bebe Rexha, Juice/Post/Clever, the full tracking week for M5/Megan, and Lil Baby/EST Gee. Finally some fresh blood on the Hot 100 in 2021, hopefully coming in to sweep away songs that have been charting for way too long. Other than Bieber I don't think any of these is necessarily gonna debut huge. Maroon 5 will build it's airplay for a few weeks, Bebe flops three or four times per every hit so she's not due for a hit yet I think, Selena's Spanish project has failed to land any top 50 hits so far. Juice is a wildcard because the project is a bit old so who knows how hard they will push. The Pokemon song just proved Post's name doesn't guarantee a massive debut yet. Lil Baby is possible I guess? And of course Bieber will sell like 30k and that's enough for another "huge" top 10 hit.

This just depends on how technical you want to get. Transgender means you don't identify with the gender you were assigned at birth, so technically all non-binary people fall under the transgender umbrella. However, in everyday usage, people usually refer to transgender as someone who has transitioned from male to female or female to male.

All 3 big names (Bieber/Bruno/Drake) are releasing earlier this month
Could Adele drop later on the month?

I was shocked at the no Hot 100 entries for transgender people comment but I'm guessing it's true? Only act I can think of is Kim Petras but she hasn't made much of an impact on big charts yet. SOPHIE made some influential records but as a lead act she didn't chart I think.
TV and movies probably skewed my perception because there's at least a dozen of exciting up and coming transgender stars on those mediums I can name without googling.

There is a dearth of trans men in music so ElyOttoβs success is awesome to see
Sam Smith would count, yeah. ElyOtto would be the first binary trans artist to chart and the first to medically transition. Thereβs a whole bunch of asterisks with this achievement
If βSugar Crash!β charted, would it also be the first 100 gecs-core type song to chart? Do we even think itβll chart at all??
also RIP Up, it wouldβve totally hit #1 in the coming weeks if it werenβt for all the new releases

I know it means nothing for this week's chart, and it's discounted...but what a jam! I don't know if it will ever gain enough momentum to re-enter, but this is definitely good news for Ariana Grande's "motive," as that song's TikTok-viral mashup with the "Promiscuous" instrumental is what's driving them both up the streaming/sales charts. Regarding the trans talk, Sam Smith definitely identifies as transgender (and so do most non-binary people I know, including myself). So they are definitely the most successful trans musician out there right now. Other examples I can think of have niche followings (Kim Petras, Dorian Electra, SOPHIE etc.) but I recall when Kim Petras' "Heart to Break" charted on CHR, she became the highest-charting trans singer ever on pop radio (later surpassed by several Sam Smith releases). Teddy Geiger ("In My Blood" & "Lost in Japan" by Shawn Mendes, among his other hits that were released prior to Teddy coming out) is a trans songwriter and producer that has found a lot of success, as well as Justin Tranter ("Sorry" by Justin Bieber, "Lose You To Love Me" by Selena Gomez, "Make Me Feel" by Janelle Monae) who is a gender non-confirming songwriter (who I believe doesn't exactly identify as trans).

The gap between Blinding Lights and Mood is hilarious, like 26 weeks in the Top 10 is actually pretty good but next to Blinding Lights chad 51 weeks it just makes me laugh.
