Okay surely "The Jacket" has to be next because the others are DEFINITELY the iconic top 3 from this record, but I'm still shocked it's even this high. I would've pegged it to go out more in the 7-8 range.

I had never checked this full album until this RD, and "The Jacket" went straight into my playlist. Glad it did quite well here. This is a solid top 3.

"American Scandal" is one of the best album cuts from any country record period in the past like 5 years. What an absolutely perfect song. First time she dropped that 'like Kennedy and Monroe' at the end of the chorus, I was gobsmacked. The build to that explosive euphoric chorus is so amazing. Love everything about the composition of this song and her delivery.

Wow, I am actually surprised by this outcome! I looooove the title cut so I am not upset by any means, but I 100% thought "Dahlonega" had this in the bag. I really thought it was the favored song of the two; it's definitely my preference. It's such an interesting song, and that guitar riff that drives it is so magical and memorable. "Girl Goin' Nowhere" is its own force of a song though, especially lyrically. This entire top 3 is absolute masterclass in country music.

Was shocked by those who ranked "American Scandal" low

The Jacket – The stroytelling reminds me of This Shirt by Mary Chapin Carpenter so much (and the remake of this song appeared in the album which was released in the same week as this one). The melody looks simple but is pleasant for repeated listens. American Scandal – This song is overblown. Probably a good radio single choice but doesn’t show why she is an interesting artist. A Little Dive Bar in Dahlonega – I still don’t really get the hype for this song after all these years, mainly because the melody is weak and the idea is not very interesting to me. Girl Goin’ Nowhere – On the contrary, this song reflects perseverance best. Like the melody a lot more. Still bummed the remixed version (with brighter instruments) is only sent to radio but not on streaming platforms. Thanks castleoblivion26 for completing another rankdown of this series.

The only think I know for a fact about Never Will is that "Styrofoam" will be last, but everything else will be interesting to see unfold... especially after her last album's RD threw some interesting curveballs, despite me thinking that one would be a bit easier to predict.

Not surprised these are the bottom three (despite my #2 rank for Voodoo Doll). Styrofoam feels like a cute interlude more than a closer. Right now it feels like an outtake from the album. Velvet Red is hindered by production. I get what Jay Joyce is thinking by making it lo-fi to simulate old-time radio, but it shouldn't be the whole song. At least the last verse shouldn't be in lo-fi. The hard rock from Voodoo Doll surely has a few detractors. Honestly though it goes harder than a lot of mainstream active radio releases! I think some country artists should be played on mainstream active radio, and Zac Brown Band and Chris Stapleton has done it before. I don't see why this song can't.

Still disappointed about "Velvet Red" being out so early but my bottom 3 has been cleared by the rest of the eliminations thus far, so I'm doing alright so far.

“Styrofoam” was the only choice for last place and we dang near were all almost in agreement on that one. This song definitely sticks out like a sore thumb on what is otherwise a very solid album. I’d like “Velvet Red” more if it wasn’t that the entire production of the song is lo-fi as Darkest Hour pointed out as well. I appreciate what they were attempting to do, but it could’ve just been done for the intro of the song only. Considering everything else that is left, it’s hard to argue with “Shut Up Sheila” and “First Thing I Reach For” exiting next. I had both of them ranked at #7 and #8 albeit in opposite order. That’s a very solid top 6 and it’s hard to guess which one of those songs will miss the top 5. I’m hoping to see “Stone” make it a couple of more spots, so I’ll predict that either the title track or “Hang in There Girl” leave next.

The lyrics of Shut Up Sheila are great though. It's an emotion that is way more common than you think but is rarely talked about. First Thing I Reach For sounds like your standard trad-country song (wordplay and music wise). It doesn't have the same wow factor as other songs here.
Also love the images for visualizer videos. No one else in the business does it like her.

I absolutely LOVE "Stone" and am sad that it got knocked out of the Top 5 right at the end.
The song that knocked it out of the top 5 did so by only 4 points so it was very close!

"Hang in There Girl" would've been a much better single than "Martha Divine" if they wanted something with tempo. I think it would've at least made the top 40 for her.

"Never Will" is a BANGER. It's grown on me the most since the album came out. I've always enjoyed it, but it really fully clicked with me in the past few months. The melody is incredible and I love how urgent her vocal delivery is on the song. It's chilling. I'd kill to hear this one live more than any of her uptempos.

PERFECT. The correct songs make up the top 2. I was a little nervous "Martha Divine" might get in there due to single bias, but glad that isn't the case. MD is a jam, but it's a bit overrated and I am still upset it was chosen as a single because it totally derailed what should've been a great album era for her. This didn't ever sound like a hit to me.
