Spiritual Violence was a great first listen! Catchy, high energy throwback classic rock with a good guitar performance as well, really cool song I'll definitely be adding to the personal chart playlist. Broken Sleep was a pretty enough piece of art pop, I liked the strings section a good bit at least, but the song itself did kinda feel a bit too skeletal for my taste. Decent to have on in the background, but doesn't do a *whole* lot to pull me in.

Hmm, I've never really been too into Noname's stuff, though I have tried. I appreciate the artistry, but idk doesn't really do much for me, maybe a little too reserved. This was a cool song though, like the kinda bossa nova influence, but still, don't see myself coming back to it really. Intrasport is a good song, I feel like I actively like 1 out of every 9 King Gizzard songs (that uh aren't from Infest the Rats' Nest, cause then I like 9/9), and this is one of the ones I do really like. Think it's the guitar riff at the core that really draws me to this one, it is a bit too abstract maybe, but the guitar hook is good and keeps me coming back.

Black Magic was my 25th favorite song of 2020, so. It's tough competition. I did like Stay Tonight from uhhh 2 or 3 Madnesses ago, but I have yet to hear anything else from Chung Ha that comes close. Definitely can't say I was expecting her to go for latin pop?? But you go girl uhh this isn't really my cup of tea.

Somehow managed to make it through 2020 without hearing anything from Laura Marling? Like, not even intentionally, I know her new album is pretty acclaimed but man, idk, I just never felt like giving it a listen. This was a good song though, I believe this is the one that charted on AAA, it's a good singer-songwriter tune, can't say it makes me wanna listen to the album any more, but I'll come back to it. Call for Love was a bit hrrm uh not great. Idk, didn't really care for the vocals, song felt like a mess that never really came together. But like it's not unlistenable or anything, I just don't like it much.

I do like the quality of Channel Tres's voice, I imagine he'll have a song that clicks with me at some point, but this one really isn't it. I think the chorus is kind of annoying, but the production is cool and has a nice groove to it. This Chika song though was actually soooooo good, one of the best discoveries I've had in this madness so far, definitely going to come back to it.

Wow! This Haru Nemuri song is great, geez. I listened to her...2018 iirc album and liked it enough, but there weren't really any tracks that stood out to me. But this one's really great, love the tense verses especially, the instrumental is really unique and interesting, Nemuri's flow almost reminds me of a NakamuraEmi song? Which is always good. The chorus is a bit weaker, but it is so loud and explosive that I can still appreciate it. This is very good. Easier is okay, nice piece of nocturnal dance pop with a pretty big chorus and nice production, can't say I care much for the sped up vocals in the verses though, though I'm sure the remix is to blame for that. Idk, I haven't heard the original version of this track obviously, but the core of this song does kinda sound...out of place in its own element if that makes sense. It's decent, but Bang really did blow me away.

Oh, this is the guy that randomly got nominated for album of the year right. This is a cool song though, really like the instrumental and the hook is good too. Even though I do like Ty Dolla $ign, I actually don't really care for his feature here that much, but it doesn't really take away from the rest of the song. This is one I'll come back to. Hey Stranger is a decent piece of R&B-pop, catchy and has a slick bass performance, I wouldn't change the radio on it, but I also don't think I'd go out of my way to listen to it myself.

It kind of reminds me of the title track from Phantom of the Opera (which I enjoy) so this is a solid discovery for me! “Broken Sleep” is really cool too! I like the mysterious vibe of it. Noname - “Rainforest” (BB, #1) vs. King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard - “Intrasport” (wamdjones, #6) - “Rainforest” was my #1 pick so like it’ll be hard for me to vote against it haha. I just really appreciate Noname’s music, the message behind this song and the instrumental just really make "Rainforest" enjoyable for me. “Intrasport” is super funky, I have only heard a few Gizzard songs but honestly they make some really good songs. I wish these weren’t against each other but oh well. Backxwash - “Black Magic” (1^∞, #1) vs. Chung Ha f/ Guaynaa - “Demente (Spanish Version)” (Az Paynter, #6) - This matchup is interesting because these songs are like complete opposites lol. “Black Magic” isn’t the type of song I listen to too often but I honestly enjoyed it quite a bit. “Demente” is a fun bop, definitely a mood brightener. Kind of conflicted here tbh. Laura Marling - “Held Down” (willapted33, #1) vs. KHAYAT - “Call For Love” (Leo, #6)- “Held Down” is fine, I don't think I like it as much as everyone else does though. It does have some elements to it that I can get behind though. “Call For Love” has a pretty fun beat. I think at points I don’t completely love his voice, but I can see myself jamming to this song. Both of these have elements to them that I enjoy as well as elements I don't care for, I feel like Laura might get more votes here so I'll give a vote to the underdog. Channel Tres - “skate depot” (gotportugal, #1) vs. Chika - “U Should” (Zach, #6) - Gotportugal picks=lack of taste  ok but actually though “skate depot” is so groovy and fun. Definitely a vibey song that I can see listening to quite a bit. Ugh why do these songs have to be paired against each other ;-; Chika is an artist I’ve been digging this year quite a bit, from “Songs About You”, to “FWB” (which is one of my picks  ), to this, she consistently pulls through with great songs. I definitely want to come back to it after this. I really love the breakdown in “Easier”, definitely had me jamming when I listened. Yes to "Spiritual Violence"! Annabel Jones was one of the first people I discovered through Spotify back when "IOU" was out. Nice to have her back on my radar! I don't hate the sound of "Broken Sleep" but not something I would go back to.

Both solid songs, but I voted for Agnes because I loved the orchestral pop sounds and weaving melodies around the piano and strings. Music for a thunderstorm approaching.

Held Down was on my regular rotation last spring, so it's great to see it surface here. This one gives me Joni Mitchell vibes. I really like the eastern European vibes and sounds in KHAYAT's instrumentals, but his voice distracts me too much to knock down a song I already really like.

"Bang" is a weird hybrid of pop, rock and rap. Not sure I love it yet, but it gets the vote over Camelphat's EDM (a style I still struggle to really enjoy outside of really small doses). I do like the Florence and the Machine-style vocals, though.

All I Need has some really complex rhythms and jazz harmonies going. Almost like a modern Steely Dan. Really grooving to this one. Midas Hutch was ok, but not enough to get the vote.

Both of this are among my favorite discoveries so far. "Broken Sleep" was a little sleepy while "Spiritual Violence" was more of a bop.

"Intrasport" was really fun, I liked the funky beat but it could turn very obnoxious for too long. "Rainforest" was interesting but the vocals were very weak, like I almost couldn't hear it at parts.

I felt like the vocals on "Black Magic" were right to into my face and I didn't like it. "Demente" was better than I expected, I honestly didn't expect a K-Pop act teaming with a Latin rapper. I've heard a couple of songs with Guaynaa and he's one of the best latin rappers I've know. Going with the latin K-Pop bop.

- Ooh, I liked "Spiritual Violence". I love the haunting vibe that it has. It weirdly reminds me of like 80's Duran Duran and the likes with the production. I was impressed by this one on first listen. "Broken Sleep" has the haunting vibe, but it's in the theatrical way where I'm not big on. Not a bad song, but it's definitely not my thing.

- "Rainforest" was solid. I honestly have no clue if I've ever listened to Noname before, but I have heard good things. This was pretty good. I like the fast paced sort of spoken word she was doing and the whole song felt super smooth. Nice song. King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard is a band I know I've listened to before, but I could not tell you any song by them, lol. This was alright. Kinda felt stuck in the 80s, and not in a great way to me. It's fine, just doesn't come close to beating "Rainforest" for me.

- I honestly thought this was NF when it first started lmao. The NF comparison went right out the window pretty quickly, lol. This was okay. I like the instrumental here, but the vocal mixing was kind of poor to me, and I don't know, the constant shout rapping just gets kind of annoying. "Demente" is okay background music. It's kinda fun, but nothing I could ever care enough to go back to. I'll give it the vote because I think I prefer it ever so slightly, but both of these probably wouldn't get my vote next round, lol.

- I think "skate depot" started off pretty cool, but it started to tail off afterwards for me. I thought it was pretty good still, but felt like I wasn't as interested as it went on for some reason. Maybe it needs a second listen in the future, but it was a decent first listen. Unfortunately for it, "U Should" was a very good first listen. Super instant for me. I really like the vibe it has going on. I like the way she goes from singing really smoothly to the fast paced rap that she did. This was breezy and good.

- The lyrics to "All I Need" was pretty generic, but the song itself is pretty fun. It kinda started slow, but I was bopping more and more to it as it went along. As it goes with every song he features on, Ty sounded great on this. The modern day Nate Dogg, lol. The production was nice, but it did have some spots where it sounded super dated to me. Kind of mixed on it, but I'm enjoying it for now. "Hey Stranger" was another fun one. Really dig the bouncy production here, and I think the vocalists here work very well. This is a toss-up to me, but I think I'm gonna go with the underdog here.

ok but actually though “skate depot” is so groovy and fun. Definitely a vibey song that I can see listening to quite a bit. Ugh why do these songs have to be paired against each other ;-; Chika is an artist I’ve been digging this year quite a bit, from “Songs About You”, to “FWB” (which is one of my picks
