Smashing Pumpkins - “CYR” (Tom, #1) (7.9) vs. Ya Tseen f/ Portugal. The Man - “Knives” (jamesflame, #6) (7.3)
Luke Combs f/ Billy Strings - “The Great Divide” (Colbster, #1) (5.8) vs. MoeSOS DC f/ Henry B. Styles & Dre Wave$ - “Red Line Delay” (Lordeftones, #6) (6.4) I get the appeal of The Great Divide but it didn't do much for me, the guitars were definitely nice however. Red Line Delay had a really chill beat, I wasn't huge on the vocal mixing at points but I enjoyed the song otherwise.
Brent Faiyaz f/ Tyler, the Creator - “Gravity” (singingrulebritannia, #1) (8.3) vs. Taylor Swift - “peace” (Samo, #6) (7.8) Peace isn't really one of my favorites from Folklore, it's definitely a calming song though and Taylor's songwriting is as sharp as ever. It's just one of the tracks I return to less from the album.
Squid f/ Martha Skye Murphy - “Narrator - Edit” (Kyle #1) (8.5) vs. Tiana Blake - “Interruption” (Ky, #6) (7.6) I dug the '90's production elements on Interruption! Narrator is an absolute banger as well, I see how the vocals could be an acquired taste but they work for me.
Greg Puciato - “A Pair Of Questions” (Geometrical, #1) (7.9) vs. Prey Drive - “O.M.G.” (wheatsquares33, #6) (7.4) Really liked the guitars on OMG! Post-hardcore isn't a genre I'm particularly well-versed in but this was cool. The synths on A Pair Of Questions are just divine though, his vocals are definitely on the breathy side but I enjoyed the song regardless.
Holly Humberstone - “Fake Plastic Trees” (Harry, #1) (6.9) vs. Lauren Sanderson - “Frustrated” (walt91, #6) (8.8) FPT was definitely a suitable Radiohead cover, I just wish there was more of a buildup going on instrumentally. I could totally see myself ugly crying to it at 3AM though. I really love the production on Frustrated, this was a Discover Weekly find back in, like, November that stuck with me.
Cassandra Jenkins - “Hard Drive” (recordyear, #1) (8.2) vs. Martin Garrix f/ Tove Lo - “Pressure” (Kimberly, #6) (7.9) Hard Drive was really cool, I love the spoken word stream-of-consciousness style verses and the instrumentation was so atmospheric. Pressure is far from my favorite Tove song but it's still good, I like the low-key club vibes a lot. Going with the discovery here though.

Luke Combs f/ Billy Strings - “The Great Divide” (Colbster, #1) vs. MoeSOS DC f/ Henry B. Styles & Dre Wave$ - “Red Line Delay” (Lordeftones, #6) - the sentiment behind "The Great Divide" is deplorable. Combs isn't one to complain about division when he made music praising the confederacy couple years ago, lmao. let alone write a song in response to the BLM protests. shut up man.
Brent Faiyaz f/ Tyler, the Creator - “Gravity” (singingrulebritannia, #1) vs. Taylor Swift - “peace” (Samo, #6) - well, "peace" is alright, but it's bottom of the barrel when it comes to folklore submissions. "Gravity" was more interesting.
Squid f/ Martha Skye Murphy - “Narrator - Edit” (Kyle #1) vs. Tiana Blake - “Interruption” (Ky, #6)
Greg Puciato - “A Pair Of Questions” (Geometrical, #1) vs. Prey Drive - “O.M.G.” (wheatsquares33, #6)
Holly Humberstone - “Fake Plastic Trees” (Harry, #1) vs. Lauren Sanderson - “Frustrated” (walt91, #6) - "Fake Plastic Trees" is so serene and pleasant. I generally enjoy Holly's music, which definitely helps. "Frustrated" was okay.
Cassandra Jenkins - “Hard Drive” (recordyear, #1) vs. Martin Garrix f/ Tove Lo - “Pressure” (Kimberly, #6) - well, well, well... "Pressure" is a fun bop that really transports you into a sweaty night out. "Hard Drive" was a great discovery though.

Smashing Pumpkins - “CYR” (Tom, #1) vs. Ya Tseen f/ Portugal. The Man - “Knives” (jamesflame, #6)
- I actually haven't heard anything from The Smashing Pumpkins' latest era, I don't believe. I really like the music to this, definitely different for them, but I don't really think Billy's vocals match this kind of song. It sounds straight out of the 80's which I like, but yeah, the vocals are the disconnect for me. I've never been big on Billy's vocals, so it's not too surprising to me here. I remember listening to "Knives" out of curiosity when it released because I saw the Portugal. The Man feature, but I forgot literally everything about it until this listen, lol. I like this one a decent bit. It's definitely an interesting track, and I think it works for both artists here. Honestly, this just makes me want new Portugal. The Man music ASAP.
Luke Combs f/ Billy Strings - “The Great Divide” (Colbster, #1) vs. MoeSOS DC f/ Henry B. Styles & Dre Wave$ - “Red Line Delay” (Lordeftones, #6)
- "The Great Divide" is definitely different coming from Luke Combs. I'm not sure I really like his vocals over the folkier kind of music behind him. Also lyrically wasn't really feeling it where I generally think it's one of his strong suits. I think I just hear it as a pandemic kind of song, which I have absolutely hated, so it didn't help its cause here. "Red Line Delay" was an alright hip hop song. Not sure I really cared for it too much. I liked the guy with the deeper voice, and the chorus was nice, but overall, the song didn't do too much for me. It did enough to take the victory here, however.
Brent Faiyaz f/ Tyler, the Creator - “Gravity” (singingrulebritannia, #1) vs. Taylor Swift - “peace” (Samo, #6)
- "Gravity" was a much more instant first listen than "Dead Man Walking" was (even though I liked that one too). This was great. Love Brent on this, and the Tyler feature here was really solid. Impressive song that I'll definitely add to my playlist. Great pick. "peace" is alright, and it definitely grades on the lower end of folklore to me. It doesn't really move the needle too much to me.
Squid f/ Martha Skye Murphy - “Narrator - Edit” (Kyle #1) vs. Tiana Blake - “Interruption” (Ky, #6)
- I've heard good things about "Narrator" (as it is #1 on the rym singles charts for the year so far), but this is my first listen to it. Pretty solid first listen. I'd be interested in hearing the full version eventually, but the edit does its job of keeping my attention. The screaming at the end was a bit weird lmao, but the music on that part (and throughout the song) is very solid. "Interruption" was nice R&B, but it was a bit too repetitive for me. Ky normally comes with pretty good R&B to me, and this was no different, but don't think it did enough to overtake "Narrator" here for me.
Greg Puciato - “A Pair Of Questions” (Geometrical, #1) vs. Prey Drive - “O.M.G.” (wheatsquares33, #6)
- Really solid instrumentation and production out of "A Pair of Questions" here. Not sure the vocals / vocal delivery were entirely my cup of tea, but I can see this growing on me with future listens. Definitely has a more haunting nature to it, and it reminds me of stuff from back in the day. Intriguing song. The title of "O.M.G." made me remember the Usher / will.i.am song I thought I had erased from my memory, lol. This one was solid pop punk – or at least that's the genre I can closely associate it with, as I feel like this is better than a pop punk tag, lol. It was more instant to me, and I think that's what's going to give it the vote here, but I'm happy with either moving on really.
Holly Humberstone - “Fake Plastic Trees” (Harry, #1) vs. Lauren Sanderson - “Frustrated” (walt91, #6)
- Holly's voice is very pleasant. I'm not familiar with the original, but I wouldn't have realized it was a cover without other people pointing it out, lol. Definitely a nice song. Not sure I'd revisit it, but still a nice song. "Frustrated" was pretty solid! I really like the instrumental on it. The lyrics are a bit juvenile at times (the swears just feel thrown in here, lol), but I do like it a decent bit.
Cassandra Jenkins - “Hard Drive” (recordyear, #1) vs. Martin Garrix f/ Tove Lo - “Pressure” (Kimberly, #6)
- I've loved the atmosphere of "Hard Drive" ever since I heard it in February after randomly checking out her album. The music is so good on that track. Super dreamy. Spoken word tends to not be my thing, but it works really wonderfully here. Feels super introspective and fits so naturally, and the way it blends into Cassandra's singing works so well. Just an outstanding song. "Pressure" sounds like a song I'd hear while plastered at a college bar / club and would enjoy, but on its own, I'm not too big on it. I feel like this collab on paper has the makings of being good, but overall, I've always found this to be a disappointment.

Squid f/ Martha Skye Murphy - “Narrator - Edit” (Kyle #1) {9} vs. Tiana Blake - “Interruption” (Ky, #6) {6.2} I didn't put Narrator in my selections because I figured it would lose in everything but the absolute best case scenario, but it's definitely one of my SOTYs so far
Greg Puciato - “A Pair Of Questions” (Geometrical, #1) {7.5} vs. Prey Drive - “O.M.G.” (wheatsquares33, #6) {6.7}
Holly Humberstone - “Fake Plastic Trees” (Harry, #1) {4.2} vs. Lauren Sanderson - “Frustrated” (walt91, #6) {5.3} if Holly had chosen any other Radiohead song to cover, she would have my vote lol. Did Lauren learn about swear words for the first time 6 minutes ago? This is like the battle of the keanureeveswhoa.mp4's
Cassandra Jenkins - “Hard Drive” (recordyear, #1) {8.3} vs. Martin Garrix f/ Tove Lo - “Pressure” (Kimberly, #6) {6} Hard Drive is on my personal chart already, so anything would've had a tough time beating it

Smashing Pumpkins - “CYR” (Tom, #1) vs. Ya Tseen f/ Portugal. The Man - “Knives” (jamesflame, #6) "CYR" beat reminds me to "Sweet Dreams" and that's not a bad thing. "Knives" was decent, I found it a little boring.
Luke Combs f/ Billy Strings - “The Great Divide” (Colbster, #1) vs. MoeSOS DC f/ Henry B. Styles & Dre Wave$ - “Red Line Delay” (Lordeftones, #6) I didn't care about those songs but the female vocals saved "Red Line Delay".
Brent Faiyaz f/ Tyler, the Creator - “Gravity” (singingrulebritannia, #1) vs. Taylor Swift - “peace” (Samo, #6) Both are boring as hell, but "Gravity" was more interesting than "peace" which is at the bottom of folklore for me.
Squid f/ Martha Skye Murphy - “Narrator - Edit” (Kyle #1) vs. Tiana Blake - “Interruption” (Ky, #6) Those screams on "Narrator"?? Uhm?? I'm clearly not the meta target of that song. "Interruption" was a cute bop.
Greg Puciato - “A Pair Of Questions” (Geometrical, #1) vs. Prey Drive - “O.M.G.” (wheatsquares33, #6) Both were fine, could go either way.
Holly Humberstone - “Fake Plastic Trees” (Harry, #1) vs. Lauren Sanderson - “Frustrated” (walt91, #6) "Fake Plastic Trees" was cute for what it was but I prefer the production on "Frustrated".
Cassandra Jenkins - “Hard Drive” (recordyear, #1) vs. Martin Garrix f/ Tove Lo - “Pressure” (Kimberly, #6) "Pressure" was more interesting than "Hard Drive"

wehat i still have no idea what your taste is your wtm picks and this have me BEFUDDLED Hm, I guess I don't really have a solid "taste"? I kinda just like whatever I like. Traditionally an emo/pop punk kid, have grown to like synthpop/darkwave more recently. Anything really dramatic and theatrical or with a heavy nocturnal atmosphere, ideally both, if I had to pin down a concrete style for myself. Smashing Pumpkins - “CYR” (Tom, #1) (decent to strong 7) vs. Ya Tseen f/ Portugal. The Man - “Knives” (jamesflame, #6) (strong 6 to light 7)I do like this direction Smashing Pumpkins have gone in on this most recent project, I've enjoyed most of the tracks I've heard from it more than anything they've released in the past decade honestly. Cool to see them make the top 20 on alternative in 2021, and well deserved, this is a solid track. Could be improved with a better vocal performance, but the groove is nice, the chorus is catchy, and the synth-y production is great. Think Knives showed up in my discover weekly semi-recently and I liked it enough to come back to it later, but not enough to actually add it to my chart. And relistening to it now, yeah it's definitely one of those. It's a nice enough song, I enjoy it, just don't love it.Luke Combs f/ Billy Strings - “The Great Divide” (Colbster, #1) (light to decent 6) vs. MoeSOS DC f/ Henry B. Styles & Dre Wave$ - “Red Line Delay” (Lordeftones, #6) (strong 6 to light 7)The Great Divide was alright. Luke Combs is a likable enough guy, song has heart to it even if Luke Combs isn't uh the best voice for this message, the Billy Strings performance really carries it though (he was actually playing at the college I live right across the street from a week or two ago, I believe, I considered going but uh I think I was working). It's not too bad, but if the instrumental was even slightly different I probably wouldn't care for it at all. Red Line Delay was kinda cool, not a big fan of the lead vocals here, but both of the features were excellent and the production was really strong too, cool beat here. Can't say it's something I wanna come back to, but I appreciate it.Brent Faiyaz f/ Tyler, the Creator - “Gravity” (singingrulebritannia, #1) (decent to strong 6) vs. Taylor Swift - “peace” (Samo, #6) (light to decent 7)I liked this more than the Brent Faiyaz song, I guess, but it still doesn't do too much for me. It's alright, Tyler feature is decent, I like the instrumental, just doesn't really stand out to me at all. More Folklore is always uhh fine, I guess. I enjoyed listening to this one, very nice bass performance, pretty smooth song, comes across kinda one note, doesn't really go anywhere, but I do like the sound it does achieve.Squid f/ Martha Skye Murphy - “Narrator - Edit” (Kyle #1) (light to decent 8) vs. Tiana Blake - “Interruption” (Ky, #6) (light to decent 7)I usually complain about this brand of aggressive post-punk at least once a tournament, cause as much as I try to, I just don't get Idles or Black Country New Road. And I'd kinda expect to have a similar reaction to Squid, but I do actually enjoy their stuff, especially Narrator. This song kicks my ass, it's a really great track. Was kinda worried when I saw the "edit" here since I have been enjoying the full length version for so long, but this does trim down pretty nicely (even if the build towards the end does ramp up a little too quickly). Interruption was a very nice first listen, pretty piece of R&B-pop with a good vocal performance, I quite like it. I kinda expect Narrator to win since like everyone on the rock side of the forum nuts so hard for this style, but...it's well-deserved here and hard to beat, I won't vote against it. Greg Puciato - “A Pair Of Questions” (Geometrical, #1) (decent to strong 8) vs. Prey Drive - “O.M.G.” (wheatsquares33, #6) (strong 7 to light 8)HghhghghhgGHGHGHGHG whyyyyyy. I haaaaate this. I mean, I've played in Pulse tournaments long enough to know whether it's a smarter move to take the high road and vote for a song that I like more rather than vote for my own submission, and very seldom do I actually...do that. I just want my songs to win :') But, I love Greg Puciato's work, A Pair of Questions was my 39th favorite song of 2020, and re-listening to it now like...yeah this is a really good song. But Prey Drive is a group I've been really enjoying for the past few years, and I think O.M.G. is one of their best songs to date and I'd love for them to continue on aaaaaaaa. I'm uh already down by a lot so I'm just gonna go ahead and vote for my song, if it wins great, if it loses that's fine too.Holly Humberstone - “Fake Plastic Trees” (Harry, #1) (strong 5 to light 6) vs. Lauren Sanderson - “Frustrated” (walt91, #6) (light to decent 6)Ehhhhhh, not in love with either of these. I've enjoyed a few songs by Holly Humberstone in the past, but uhhh a bedroom pop cover of Fake Plastic Trees is not really something I needed? I mean, I guess it was inevitable for something like this to happen given the heavy 90s influence in modern bedroom pop and how stripped back the original is, it is a natural fit, but I just don't think that Holly brings anything noteworthy to this cover, just a whinier vocal performance (though I do actually like some of the guitar work here). Didn't really love Frustrated either, especially at first, but it did end up growing on me slightly. The vocals do get decidedly more aggressive by the second verse (more than I would expect from a song of this type), the chorus is moderately catchy, and the instrumental's not too bad either. Cassandra Jenkins - “Hard Drive” (recordyear, #1) (decent to strong 7) vs. Martin Garrix f/ Tove Lo - “Pressure” (Kimberly, #6) (light to decent 6)As avant-garde and new age-y as Hard Drive is, I actually really enjoyed this on first listen, if only for how absolutely gorgeous and lush the instrumental arrangement is. This isn't a style I usually am crazy for, but it's just so pretty, and I feel like there's some unlocked potential to this track and it will really click with me down the road. Good discovery here. Meanwhile, I still continue not to see the appeal of Tove Lo as a vocalist. This is an okay dance pop song, definitely less gaudy production than I'd expect from Martin Garrix and a solid hook too, not too bad, don't plan to come back to it though.

Smashing Pumpkins - “CYR” (Tom, #1) vs. Ya Tseen f/ Portugal. The Man - “Knives” (jamesflame, #6)
Luke Combs f/ Billy Strings - “The Great Divide” (Colbster, #1) vs. MoeSOS DC f/ Henry B. Styles & Dre Wave$ - “Red Line Delay” (Lordeftones, #6) Sadly sometimes underground rap isn't the groundbreaking movement we think it is. Sometimes it can be really derivative
Brent Faiyaz f/ Tyler, the Creator - “Gravity” (singingrulebritannia, #1) vs. Taylor Swift - “peace” (Samo, #6) peace is fine but one of the weaker songs on folklore. Also I wanna give other artists time to shine in Madness
Squid f/ Martha Skye Murphy - “Narrator - Edit” (Kyle #1) vs. Tiana Blake - “Interruption” (Ky, #6) Narrator runs long but I can respect the experimentation. Tiana Blake just sounds like Queen Naija but less interesting
Greg Puciato - “A Pair Of Questions” (Geometrical, #1) vs. Prey Drive - “O.M.G.” (wheatsquares33, #6)
Holly Humberstone - “Fake Plastic Trees” (Harry, #1) vs. Lauren Sanderson - “Frustrated” (walt91, #6) Even if the Radiohead original is still one of the best songs ever, this is still a good cover. Also: fru-tu-ra-ted
Cassandra Jenkins - “Hard Drive” (recordyear, #1) vs. Martin Garrix f/ Tove Lo - “Pressure” (Kimberly, #6) Hard Drive is just beautiful. Pressure is good but Hard Drive is in another tier

good morning pulse
Smashing Pumpkins - “CYR” (Tom, #1) {7.5} vs. Ya Tseen f/ Portugal. The Man - “Knives” (jamesflame, #6) {7} - hey billy corgan, what's your favorite video game console from the six generation of gaming
Luke Combs f/ Billy Strings - “The Great Divide” (Colbster, #1) {3.5} vs. MoeSOS DC f/ Henry B. Styles & Dre Wave$ - “Red Line Delay” (Lordeftones, #6) {5} - didn't you make a song with a white confederate rapper mr hairbrush
Brent Faiyaz f/ Tyler, the Creator - “Gravity” (singingrulebritannia, #1) {7} vs. Taylor Swift - “peace” (Samo, #6) {7} - "i hate gays even though frank is on 10 of my songs"
Squid f/ Martha Skye Murphy - “Narrator - Edit” (Kyle #1) {8} vs. Tiana Blake - “Interruption” (Ky, #6) {6} - i've known narrator for some time but like most songs i know of that were released in 2021, i haven't bothered to listen to it. that being said, this is a really good surprise, might need to save the full version though
Greg Puciato - “A Pair Of Questions” (Geometrical, #1) {7} vs. Prey Drive - “O.M.G.” (wheatsquares33, #6) {6} - hmm, i appreciate the darkwave vibes in a pair of questions, even though it's not a genre i'm super familiar with. it could be a grower, that is if it advances ofc.
Holly Humberstone - “Fake Plastic Trees” (Harry, #1) {5} vs. Lauren Sanderson - “Frustrated” (walt91, #6) {5.5} - wow she's going to paris????? is she who jay z and kanye's talking about in nip????????????
Cassandra Jenkins - “Hard Drive” (recordyear, #1) {8.5} vs. Martin Garrix f/ Tove Lo - “Pressure” (Kimberly, #6) {6} - martin garrix credit osrin on pressure challenge

Smashing Pumpkins - “CYR” (Tom, #1) vs. Ya Tseen f/ Portugal. The Man - “Knives” (jamesflame, #6) Did the lead vocalist for Smashing Pumpkins always sound like this? I don't remember being annoyed by it in "1979" or any other song I've heard from them. Music-wise it's pretty good. "Knives" is decent and I think it has cool things going for it, but it kind of goes nowhere for me. Not the strongest matchup for me.
Luke Combs f/ Billy Strings - “The Great Divide” (Colbster, #1) vs. MoeSOS DC f/ Henry B. Styles & Dre Wave$ - “Red Line Delay” (Lordeftones, #6) Billy Strings definitely had a positive influence here - Luke Combs' material tends to sound samey after a while (some of them are great though) but the bluegrass influence in this song sets it apart from the rest of his material. Judging by the single cover, the Red Line in "Red Line Delay" is in DC? I used to ride that pretty often so I'm getting a weird positive connection to this song, lol. However, I'd probably take "The Great Divide" over it.
Brent Faiyaz f/ Tyler, the Creator - “Gravity” (singingrulebritannia, #1) vs. Taylor Swift - “peace” (Samo, #6) "Gravity" was pretty cool, the instrumentals were nice but it's up against a Taylor Swift song. "peace" is one of my least favorites on folklore but folklore Taylor Swift did no wrong in my eyes.
Squid f/ Martha Skye Murphy - “Narrator - Edit” (Kyle #1) vs. Tiana Blake - “Interruption” (Ky, #6) "Narrator" is cool, I don't know how I feel about the vocals but I like the guitarwork in this. Someone mentioned it was #1 on the RYM chart for this year - do I feel it's that good? No. "Interruption" bops. I liked the production on it.
Greg Puciato - “A Pair Of Questions” (Geometrical, #1) vs. Prey Drive - “O.M.G.” (wheatsquares33, #6) The use of electronic sounds as the beat is pretty interesting and interestingly enough that little detail makes the song stand out far more than songs in a similar vein. The song takes a little while to fully kick into gear but once it does it's pretty great. "O.M.G." is solid too - I don't think there was any particular detail that stood out to me, but it's overall just a solid listen.
Holly Humberstone - “Fake Plastic Trees” (Harry, #1) vs. Lauren Sanderson - “Frustrated” (walt91, #6) I recall liking the Radiohead original of "Fake Plastic Trees" in an RD (but I don't think I've returned to it a ton since then which is funny because I've listened to other Radiohead stuff between then and now) but I don't feel the same connection with this version as I did with the original. It kinds of feels like this version took away the best parts of the song aside for the lyrics. "Frustrated" was mediocre... I suppose. The guitars in the bridge was probably the only interesting part of the song to me.
Cassandra Jenkins - “Hard Drive” (recordyear, #1) vs. Martin Garrix f/ Tove Lo - “Pressure” (Kimberly, #6) The spoken parts in "Hard Drive" caught my attention immediately, and the jazzy instrumentals are great too. "Pressure" is better than a lot of Martin Garrix/pop singers collaborations I've heard, I actually liked it. It ends a little abruptly but didn't have the genericness that most of his pop collabs had. I still preferred "Hard Drive", but thanks for making me realize that not all Martin Garrix/pop collabs weren't stuff I didn't enjoy!

Smashing Pumpkins - “CYR” (Tom, #1) vs. Ya Tseen f/ Portugal. The Man - “Knives” (jamesflame, #6) - "CYR" is so good! After listening to that first, I was almost certain it would get my vote. But "Knives" put up quite the fight. It has a really nice vibe to it, while "CYR" is great from a production standpoint. This is a hard one, but I'll give it to the Smashing Pumpkins. I feel like I could see that song becoming a favorite of mine in this tournament.
Luke Combs f/ Billy Strings - “The Great Divide” (Colbster, #1) vs. MoeSOS DC f/ Henry B. Styles & Dre Wave$ - “Red Line Delay” (Lordeftones, #6) - "The Great Divide" has a nice vibe to it! The instrumental and the vocals blend really nicely to make this catchy little country tune. I enjoy it! I really do not like the chorus on "Red Line Delay", and I find the production to be pretty lackluster as well. It's kind of a boring song for the most part.
Brent Faiyaz f/ Tyler, the Creator - “Gravity” (singingrulebritannia, #1) vs. Taylor Swift - “peace” (Samo, #6) - "Gravity" is a pretty vibey track overall. I dig it! "peace" has always been one of the least memorable songs from Folklore. I really like that album overall, but that song in particular bores me unfortunately.
Squid f/ Martha Skye Murphy - “Narrator - Edit” (Kyle #1) vs. Tiana Blake - “Interruption” (Ky, #6) - "Narrator" was certainly an interesting first listen haha. The yelling throughout the song and the screaming at the end were kind of off-putting. I'm guessing this is meant to be a grower? At least that's probably how it'll go for me. "Interruption" felt very generic in my opinion. Her voice is nice, but the production feels weak, not very unique, and a little dated.
Greg Puciato - “A Pair Of Questions” (Geometrical, #1) vs. Prey Drive - “O.M.G.” (wheatsquares33, #6) - Omg this one is really hard. "O.M.G." is the kind of pop punk song that I really dig every now and then. I was jamming to it. But I was also vibing to "A Pair Of Questions" and there's just something about this song's beat that really has me hooked. I like these layered vocals as well. This is probably one of my favorite discoveries so far, so I'll be adding this to my rotation! :)
Holly Humberstone - “Fake Plastic Trees” (Harry, #1) vs. Lauren Sanderson - “Frustrated” (walt91, #6) - Not really a huge fan of either of these. "Fake Plastic Trees" is an alright cover. She has an interesting voice that sound kind of nice in parts. I'm not entirely sure her vocal style is my cup of tea. But she is talented. It's just not as good as the original. Meanwhile, I think "Frustrated" is a little on the generic side of things. Not bad, but not necessarily something I'm going to remember in a few hours.
Cassandra Jenkins - “Hard Drive” (recordyear, #1) vs. Martin Garrix f/ Tove Lo - “Pressure” (Kimberly, #6) - "Pressure" feels lackluster compared to what Garrix has released in the past. It also feels incomplete because of its length. Tove Lo sounds pretty good on it though. There's something about "Hard Drive" that just had me intrigued through the whole song. I don't usually love spoken word in music. But while listening to this, I felt at peace. It's very dreamy, very peaceful, and very pleasant. I like this one a lot!
Favorite Discovery: Greg Puciato - "A Pair Of Questions"
Top 5: 1. Greg Puciato - "A Pair Of Questions" 2. Smashing Pumpkins - "CYR" 3. Cassandra Jenkins - "Hard Drive" 4. Ya Tseen f/ Portugal. The Man - "Knives" 5. Brent Faiyaz f/ Tyler, The Creator - "Gravity"

Smashing Pumpkins - “CYR” (Tom, #1) vs. Ya Tseen f/ Portugal. The Man - “Knives” (jamesflame, #6)
Luke Combs f/ Billy Strings - “The Great Divide” (Colbster, #1) vs. MoeSOS DC f/ Henry B. Styles & Dre Wave$ - “Red Line Delay” (Lordeftones, #6)
Brent Faiyaz f/ Tyler, the Creator - “Gravity” (singingrulebritannia, #1) vs. Taylor Swift - “peace” (Samo, #6)
Squid f/ Martha Skye Murphy - “Narrator - Edit” (Kyle #1) vs. Tiana Blake - “Interruption” (Ky, #6)
Greg Puciato - “A Pair Of Questions” (Geometrical, #1) vs. Prey Drive - “O.M.G.” (wheatsquares33, #6)
Holly Humberstone - “Fake Plastic Trees” (Harry, #1) vs. Lauren Sanderson - “Frustrated” (walt91, #6)
Cassandra Jenkins - “Hard Drive” (recordyear, #1) vs. Martin Garrix f/ Tove Lo - “Pressure” (Kimberly, #6)
Finally heard "Gravity" and liked it! I wasn't expecting it to beat a folklore song. "Red Line Delay" is really cool, surprised MoeSOS DC isn't bigger (also planning on looking up Henri B. Styles). The delivery on the lines on "Narrator" was engaging, that was a fun listen ("Interruption" was definitely good, though). I feel bad for "O.M.G.", it would've fared better against other songs. Holly Humberstone has a great voice ("Haunted House"... :( ) and didn't expect her to lose, but Lauren Sanderson's "Frustrated" is really solid. I want to see it in a future round (plus Holly has other originals up for future rounds). "Hard Drive" made me tear up.
New library additions: Red Line Delay, Frustrated, Hard Drive, Gravity

Smashing Pumpkins - “CYR” (Tom, #1) vs. Ya Tseen f/ Portugal. The Man - “Knives” (jamesflame, #6) I enjoyed "Knives".
Luke Combs f/ Billy Strings - “The Great Divide” (Colbster, #1) vs. MoeSOS DC f/ Henry B. Styles & Dre Wave$ - “Red Line Delay” (Lordeftones, #6)
Brent Faiyaz f/ Tyler, the Creator - “Gravity” (singingrulebritannia, #1) vs. Taylor Swift - “peace” (Samo, #6) Brent is officially getting added to my list.
Squid f/ Martha Skye Murphy - “Narrator - Edit” (Kyle #1) vs. Tiana Blake - “Interruption” (Ky, #6) I had a minute where I thought about scrapping "Interruption" from my submission list... I figured it wouldn't get very far, but glad I left it in there. I like it more with each listen and I'm here for anything MNEK has a hand in.

Back at work after Spring Break, so no time to leave notes, but I listened to this list a couple times this morning.

Luke Combs f/ Billy Strings - “The Great Divide” (Colbster, #1) vs. MoeSOS DC f/ Henry B. Styles & Dre Wave$ - “Red Line Delay” (Lordeftones, #6)

Smashing Pumpkins - “CYR” (Tom, #1) vs. Ya Tseen f/ Portugal. The Man - “Knives” (jamesflame, #6) Why do the lead singer of The Smashing Pumpkins sound as cringy as Garth Brooks? At least the vocals in Knives are less cringy, although the whole song is a bit too blurry.
Luke Combs f/ Billy Strings - “The Great Divide” (Colbster, #1) vs. MoeSOS DC f/ Henry B. Styles & Dre Wave$ - “Red Line Delay” (Lordeftones, #6) Billy Strings' playing in The Great Divide is great. However I still think Luke Combs does not suit bluegrass music. Red Line Delay is at least one minute too long. That woman's voice is decent I guess.
Brent Faiyaz f/ Tyler, the Creator - “Gravity” (singingrulebritannia, #1) vs. Taylor Swift - “peace” (Samo, #6) Gravity is one of better songs in this set and is better than Brent Faiyaz's song in first set. Another unpopular opinion but I think peace is among the best songs in folklore, at least from arrangement standpoint, so had to vote for her on this one.
Squid f/ Martha Skye Murphy - “Narrator - Edit” (Kyle #1) vs. Tiana Blake - “Interruption” (Ky, #6) So Narrator does sound hardcore with those screams, but I think the first part is weirdly fun? I may have to listen to full version but right now this edited version is still very good. At least Interruption is not another hardcore song, but it feels like typical R&B song.
Greg Puciato - “A Pair Of Questions” (Geometrical, #1) vs. Prey Drive - “O.M.G.” (wheatsquares33, #6) Geometrical's picks are 2/2 for me so far. Like the synths and darkwave in A Pair Of Questions. I think I would like O.M.G. more in five years ago.
Holly Humberstone - “Fake Plastic Trees” (Harry, #1) vs. Lauren Sanderson - “Frustrated” (walt91, #6) Eh, never listened to Fake Plastic Trees before but I doubt it's as boring as Holly Humberstone's version. Frustrated is another eDgY song but at least the music is okay-ish.
Cassandra Jenkins - “Hard Drive” (recordyear, #1) vs. Martin Garrix f/ Tove Lo - “Pressure” (Kimberly, #6) Sometimes I feel the double meaning of title of Hard Drive is forced, but otherwise it's very comforting, especially when she draws the listener in the therapy session. Also learnt this song was released on my birthday after being emotionally attached to this song. Hard to top this one. Pressure is a better recent Martin Garrix collab but it never reaches the same level of experience that Hard Drive gives.

Smashing Pumpkins - “CYR” (Tom, #1) vs. Ya Tseen f/ Portugal. The Man - “Knives” (jamesflame, #6)
I like both of these, this was tough but I fuck with Knives vibes more. CYR isn't even top 50 Pumpkins songs.
Luke Combs f/ Billy Strings - “The Great Divide” (Colbster, #1) vs. MoeSOS DC f/ Henry B. Styles & Dre Wave$ - “Red Line Delay” (Lordeftones, #6)
Billy Strings is great but Luke Combs is terrible. Also yes Rom, Moe is a cool guy to hang out with, very intelligent and down to earth. Also @fearless the red line is indeed referring to DC, where Moe collaborates a lot.
Brent Faiyaz f/ Tyler, the Creator - “Gravity” (singingrulebritannia, #1) vs. Taylor Swift - “peace” (Samo, #6)
If Peace was an instrumental I would be voting for it. Taylor's overproduced vocals never worked for me on this album. Gravity was a great discovery, way better than yesterday's Faiyaz song.
Squid f/ Martha Skye Murphy - “Narrator - Edit” (Kyle #1) vs. Tiana Blake - “Interruption” (Ky, #6)
Narrator was fucking insane. Can't even say I fully like it but that ending won me over. Those screams, wow. Interruption was also good, very chill.
Greg Puciato - “A Pair Of Questions” (Geometrical, #1) vs. Prey Drive - “O.M.G.” (wheatsquares33, #6)
Puciato's emergence as a darkwave singer has to be the best glo-ups I've seen (since he sucked as a metal singer) Big Black Queen vibes here. Prey Drive was also pretty good.
Holly Humberstone - “Fake Plastic Trees” (Harry, #1) vs. Lauren Sanderson - “Frustrated” (walt91, #6)
Holly blows the original out the water here, absolutely love this cover. Lauren was also quite nice but gotta give it to Holly.
Cassandra Jenkins - “Hard Drive” (recordyear, #1) vs. Martin Garrix f/ Tove Lo - “Pressure” (Kimberly, #6)
Sorry but I barely remember how either of these sound. Giving it to Marty and Tove as I can get down to this at a festival.
Top Five
1. Knives 2. A Pair of Questions 3. Red Line Delay 4. CYR 5. Fake Plastic Trees
