Dayglow - “Close To You” (jtd, #1) vs. Thomas Rhett - “What's Your Country Song” (Colbster, #6) - I already enjoyed “Close To You” the first time I heard it, though these past couple of days I’ve been *really* getting into it. It has such a feel-good vibe, definitely rooting for it to do well. “What’s Your Country Song” is nice, it feels like a standard Thomas Rhett song. There’s not a whole lot about it that stands out to me, but I could see myself jamming to it from time to time. Ariana Grande - “pov” (Cynthia, #1) vs. Mike Shinoda f/ Iann Dior & UPSAHL - “Happy Endings” (Macattack, #6) - “pov” is one of the highlights from Ariana’s new album. The buildup throughout the chorus is really pretty, and the overall production is pleasant. Not sure why but “Happy Endings” kind of reminds me of MGK’s “Bad Things”, though it’s definitely better haha. Pretty catchy song, I do enjoy “pov” a bit more though. Breland f/ Mickey Guyton - “Cross Country” (Stacey, #1) vs. Fraxiom - “scawy monstews and nice spwites :3” (cf72, #6)- The instrumental of “Cross Country” is really nice- very chill and enjoyable. Mickey sounds great here, though Breland’s vocals kind of bring this down for me just a bit. I’ve been getting pretty into hyper pop lately, so “scawy monstews and nice spwites :3” is definitely entertaining for me. It’s like definitely kind of a wild song, but it’s fun. NEEV - “Dancing In The Stars” (Leo, #1) vs. Sara Kays - “Remember That Night?” (woods, #6) - I really love the production of “Dancing In The Stars”, sometimes we need sad bops in our lives I think at times NEEV’s voice isn’t exactly my style, but like I can get behind the song. Wait, this is a sad bop matchup I like the production in “Remember That Night” too, I think both of these are similar in enjoyment for me. Carly Pearce - “29” (Bigfan101, #1) vs. Brave Girls - “We Ride” (fearlessarrow, #6) - I’ve been really digging Carly Pearce lately, she’s got a really pretty voice. “29” as a song is normally something that wouldn’t catch my attention too much, but it definitely works for Carly, I see myself revisiting this. O.o “We Ride” is such a jam! I’d love to vote for both of these if I could. Jake Hoot f/ Kelly Clarkson - “I Would've Loved You” (Tay, #1) vs. Noah Reid - “Honesty” (DistrictTwelve, #6)- Kelly sounds really nice on “I Would’ve Loved You”, though I don’t know if I’m completely feeling Jake’s voice? Maybe it’s the combination of that and the slower nature of the song though. “Honesty” got added to my library pretty easily. Very good vibes. Ingrid Andress - “Both” (D3vin44, #1) vs. Julien Baker - “Hardline” (Kyle #6) - I really find Ingrid’s voice to be really solid, “Both” is a really pleasant song. I’ve enjoyed a couple of Julien Baker songs, I don’t know if I’m completely into “Hardline” though but it’s a nice song. Freddie Gibbs f/ ScHoolboy Q - “Gang Signs” (MoD, #1) vs. Carly Pearce - “Should’ve Known Better” (Bigfan101, #6) - “Gang Signs” is soo good. I’ve been vibing with it ever since I first heard it for the new releases rankdown. What I said for “29” can pretty much be applied here as well. “Should’ve Known Better” is really solid. I want to vote for both of these so this is tough, though since I voted for Carly above, I’ll vote for Freddie here.

Dayglow - “Close To You” (jtd, #1) vs. Thomas Rhett - “What's Your Country Song” (Colbster, #6) "Close To You" reminds me of something that I like. I'll pick that. Ariana Grande - “pov” (Cynthia, #1) vs. Mike Shinoda f/ Iann Dior & UPSAHL - “Happy Endings” (Macattack, #6) Not my favorite Ariana song, but I have yet to hear a song I dislike by her. Breland f/ Mickey Guyton - “Cross Country” (Stacey, #1) vs. Fraxiom - “scawy monstews and nice spwites :3” (cf72, #6) I thought "Cross Country" was Shawn Mendes. I don't hate the second song, but it's definitely nuts. NEEV - “Dancing In The Stars” (Leo, #1) vs. Sara Kays - “Remember That Night?” (woods, #6)Carly Pearce - “29” (Bigfan101, #1) vs. Brave Girls - “We Ride” (fearlessarrow, #6)
I'm a sucker for a poppy k-pop song. Jake Hoot f/ Kelly Clarkson - “I Would've Loved You” (Tay, #1) vs. Noah Reid - “Honesty” (DistrictTwelve, #6)Even Kelly can't make Jake's voice sound pleasant to my ears Actually now that I'm at the end of the song, his voice is a lot better on the high notes… that opening line was a huge turnoff for me though. Ingrid Andress - “Both” (D3vin44, #1) vs. Julien Baker - “Hardline” (Kyle #6)Freddie Gibbs f/ ScHoolboy Q - “Gang Signs” (MoD, #1) vs. Carly Pearce - “Should’ve Known Better” (Bigfan101, #6)

Dayglow - “Close To You” (jtd, #1) vs. Thomas Rhett - “What's Your Country Song” (Colbster, #6) Thomas Rhett's song is good, but "Close to You" is one of my top jams right now. It's the quintessential bedroom indie pop out right now.
Ariana Grande - “pov” (Cynthia, #1) vs. Mike Shinoda f/ Iann Dior & UPSAHL - “Happy Endings” (Macattack, #6)I've tried, but I just can't get into Ariana. I can recognize her talent and admire her voice, but her songs just continually don't connect with me. I was expecting a more Linkin Park sound from Mike Shinoda, but this was still a catchy enough indie pop/rap track to get my vote for this round.Breland f/ Mickey Guyton - “Cross Country” (Stacey, #1) vs. Fraxiom - “scawy monstews and nice spwites :3” (cf72, #6) Breland was a pleasant country-pop song, but it didn't really grab my attention. I can see how Fraxiom would be fun in a club, but I just don't see myself going back to it or wanting to listen to it on a normal basis. Guess I'm going with pleasant over confusing. Give me David Bowie's "Scary Monsters and Super Creeps" anytime. NEEV - “Dancing In The Stars” (Leo, #1) vs. Sara Kays - “Remember That Night?” (woods, #6)Two songs destined to become staples for contemporary dance studios NEEV had some nice vocals and good dynamic changes. My daughter introduced me to Sara Kays, and she also has that dramatic pop sound with good vocals. This was close, but I went with Sara - I like the acoustic guitar elements just a little more. Carly Pearce - “29” (Bigfan101, #1) vs. Brave Girls - “We Ride” (fearlessarrow, #6) Country vs disco K-pop. I think the country is going to win this round. I liked the lyrics and Carly's voice. I did find my attention wandering towards the end, but slower songs sometimes need a listen or two to really hit with me. Jake Hoot f/ Kelly Clarkson - “I Would've Loved You” (Tay, #1) vs. Noah Reid - “Honesty” (DistrictTwelve, #6)Two nice discoveries. "I Would've Loved You" is really carried by Kelly - she really is a powerhouse singer and brings a little extra to any song. I've always enjoyed the singer-songwriter folk rockers, and Noah reminds me a lot of Hiss Golden Messenger or old school Wallflowers. Really like the words on this one, too, which gives it the edge. Ingrid Andress - “Both” (D3vin44, #1) vs. Julien Baker - “Hardline” (Kyle #6)Lot of country-pop on this round. This was fine, but I really love Julien Baker's new album. And Hardline is a great follow-up single to Faith Healer which is currently my #1 song for the year. Hardline is just such a cathartic examination of substance abuse and depression.Freddie Gibbs f/ ScHoolboy Q - “Gang Signs” (MoD, #1) vs. Carly Pearce - “Should’ve Known Better” (Bigfan101, #6)Really feeling the tractor songs today (guess they caught me in the right mood). Two-for-two for Carly.

Dayglow - “Close To You” (jtd, #1) (light to decent 9) vs. Thomas Rhett - “What's Your Country Song” (Colbster, #6) (light to decent 5) Close to You is one of the best songs of 2021 so far, What's Your Country Song is pretty standard bro country. I don't have much to say here.
Ariana Grande - “pov” (Cynthia, #1) (strong 5 to light 6) vs. Mike Shinoda f/ Iann Dior & UPSAHL - “Happy Endings” (Macattack, #6) (decent to strong 4) Ehh, don't care much for Positions era Ariana, haven't heard a song from this project that's really stuck with me at all. It's all listenable, as is this song, though it is a bit more on the annoying side of listenability. Have not cared much for Mike Shinoda as a solo artist up to this point, and this attempt at zoomer pop is not changing my opinion much at all.
Breland f/ Mickey Guyton - “Cross Country” (Stacey, #1) (light to decent 6) vs. Fraxiom - “scawy monstews and nice spwites :3” (cf72, #6) (light to decent 5) Cross Country a fine enough country pop song, nice vocal harmonies, nothing I haven't heard before but I enjoy it enough. I do like 100 gecs a lot, but I can't help but feel like the artists trying to recreate that sound kind of miss the point and only capture the obnoxious weirdness of it all. I didn't *hate* this (and also like the title because terrorizing people in my life by talking like this is one of my greatest joys), but I also do not like it and it makes me fear of what's to become of hyperpop in the near future. Also reminded me that the "I baked you a pie song" exists and...I think that was better left sealed away in my brain.
NEEV - “Dancing In The Stars” (Leo, #1) (light to decent 6) vs. Sara Kays - “Remember That Night?” (woods, #6) (light to decent 6) Dancing in the Stars is very showtuney and dramatic and kinda lame, sure but it could be far more obnoxious than it is. While I don't love this style when taken to its extremes (which this song is pretty close to), I do appreciate some melodrama, singer has a nice voice and I like the strings, it could be worse. I know Remember That Night has been blowing up on AAA the last month or two, never listened to it before now. It is an indie pop song. I am indifferent to both of these.
Carly Pearce - “29” (Bigfan101, #1) (decent to strong 6) vs. Brave Girls - “We Ride” (fearlessarrow, #6) (light to decent 7) 29 a fine enough country pop song, nice vocal performance, nothing I haven't heard before but I enjoy it enough. We Ride is a pretty smooth city pop flavored track, I can always enjoy this sound, it's a nice listen. I think the chorus could be a bit stronger & I've heard this style done better, but I'll definitely come back to this one.
Jake Hoot f/ Kelly Clarkson - “I Would've Loved You” (Tay, #1) (strong 6 to light 7) vs. Noah Reid - “Honesty” (DistrictTwelve, #6) (light to decent 7) Oh, I actually liked both of these. Jake Hoot is a silly name, and I think it's easy to read this song as a little melodramatic, but it works for me. Both Mr. Hoot and Kelly Clarkson have solid vocals here and good chemistry too, really big chorus and I like the fiddle/strings as well. It's an above average country power ballad, I kinda like it. Honesty was good too, catchy chorus and very classic vibe, kinda reminds me of a Tom Petty song or Bruce Springsteen song, I like the piano arrangement. I'll come back to it.
Ingrid Andress - “Both” (D3vin44, #1) (light to decent 6) vs. Julien Baker - “Hardline” (Kyle #6) (decent to strong 6) I kinda want to copy my "fine enough country pop song" comment for Both again, but I think this one does actually need a bit more finesse. I like Ingrid's voice here, and it's kind of interesting how she blends indie pop and modern country sensibilities pretty seamlessly, even if I can't say that sound really appeals to me. Some nice guitar work as well, but I do think the chorus is a bit annoying. Hardline is a Julien Baker song, pretty listenable, but I think that the instrumental breaks do come across as kind of clunky.
Freddie Gibbs f/ ScHoolboy Q - “Gang Signs” (MoD, #1) (6 decent to strong) vs. Carly Pearce - “Should’ve Known Better” (Bigfan101, #6) (decent to strong 6) I have nothing to say about either of these songs really. Gang Signs was fine, I liked Should've Known better than the other Carly Pearce song here, they're both perfectly fine and listenable, I don't think I'll come back to either.

Dayglow - “Close To You” (jtd, #1) vs. Thomas Rhett - “What's Your Country Song” (Colbster, #6) "Close To You" is such a perfect indie pop/bedroom pop jam, it's warm and charming. Easy vote.
Ariana Grande - “pov” (Cynthia, #1) vs. Mike Shinoda f/ Iann Dior & UPSAHL - “Happy Endings” (Macattack, #6) Yeah, my choice is toast lol. Still gonna back it up.
Breland f/ Mickey Guyton - “Cross Country” (Stacey, #1) vs. Fraxiom - “scawy monstews and nice spwites :3” (cf72, #6) "Cross Country" was kinda pleasant, the other one... was less so. Sorry.
NEEV - “Dancing In The Stars” (Leo, #1) vs. Sara Kays - “Remember That Night?” (woods, #6) "Remember That Night?" is a top song of the year candidate for me - it's perfectly composed on the acoustic guitar with great progression and strong narrative. I love this song - "Dancing In The Stars" didn't stand a chance.
Carly Pearce - “29” (Bigfan101, #1) vs. Brave Girls - “We Ride” (fearlessarrow, #6) Oh God, two genres I don't care about next to each other. Ergh, I'll go K-pop.
Jake Hoot f/ Kelly Clarkson - “I Would've Loved You” (Tay, #1) vs. Noah Reid - “Honesty” (DistrictTwelve, #6) "I Would've Loved You" is the kind of country pop song that makes me despise the entire genre. I... I just can't even. It's like the modern, Southern-fried equivalent of awful 80's power ballads. Noah's song at least has a lively indie vibe to it.
Ingrid Andress - “Both” (D3vin44, #1) vs. Julien Baker - “Hardline” (Kyle #6) So much country pop this round. Gotta go with Julien for this round, her song was really damn cool.
Freddie Gibbs f/ ScHoolboy Q - “Gang Signs” (MoD, #1) vs. Carly Pearce - “Should’ve Known Better” (Bigfan101, #6) Neither of these songs I really care for, I'll just give Carly the vote.

Dayglow - “Close To You” (jtd, #1) vs. Thomas Rhett - “What's Your Country Song” (Colbster, #6) "What's Your Country Song" is a decent country tune, but I like "Close To You" more. Familiarity helps, though.
Ariana Grande - “pov” (Cynthia, #1) vs. Mike Shinoda f/ Iann Dior & UPSAHL - “Happy Endings” (Macattack, #6) This UPSAHL girl has nice vocals but I can't stand Iann Dior's voice. "pov" is a decent song, finally an Ariana song without those annoying trap hit hat sounds or whatever are those annoying s**ts called.
Breland f/ Mickey Guyton - “Cross Country” (Stacey, #1) vs. Fraxiom - “scawy monstews and nice spwites :3” (cf72, #6) "Cross Country" was kinda a borefest, obviously Mickey is the standout of the whole song. The other was clearly a thing, not for me. How can be a song only 1:36 and be so annoying.
NEEV - “Dancing In The Stars” (Leo, #1) vs. Sara Kays - “Remember That Night?” (woods, #6) "Remember That Night" sounds familiar to me, Idk, nice bop.
Carly Pearce - “29” (Bigfan101, #1) vs. Brave Girls - “We Ride” (fearlessarrow, #6) I felt nothing with "29", it could be a grower but for now I'm sticking with the K-Pop bop.
Jake Hoot f/ Kelly Clarkson - “I Would've Loved You” (Tay, #1) vs. Noah Reid - “Honesty” (DistrictTwelve, #6) I remember this guy from The Voice, but in this song he tries too hard imo. Not even Kelly can save it. "Honestly" was a little more tolerable.
Ingrid Andress - “Both” (D3vin44, #1) vs. Julien Baker - “Hardline” (Kyle #6) "Both" reminded me to Maren Morris' "Girl", it might be my least fave song of Maren, but I think the chorus of this is great. "Hardline" was good at parts but there were other parts I didn't really like her voice.
Freddie Gibbs f/ ScHoolboy Q - “Gang Signs” (MoD, #1) vs. Carly Pearce - “Should’ve Known Better” (Bigfan101, #6)

Dayglow - “Close To You” (jtd, #1) vs. Thomas Rhett - “What's Your Country Song” (Colbster, #6)
- Dayglow is an Alt star in the making, and it's a damn shame that they let "Close to You" flop. Such an awesome peppy little jam. I'm really not big on Thomas Rhett almost ever, but "What's Your Country Song" is the best I've heard from him in quite awhile. Nice song actually. It's something I'd come back to in the future, but I'm still higher on "Close to You" – which would have been like #8 on my list, but I dropped it since a lot of people knew it already and knew it'd get taken anyways.
Ariana Grande - “pov” (Cynthia, #1) vs. Mike Shinoda f/ Iann Dior & UPSAHL - “Happy Endings” (Macattack, #6)
- I have paid zero attention to Ariana's new music because I have gotten so burnt on her. "pov" was decent. Nice R&B sound on her for this one. "Happy Endings" is not very good. UPSAHL is nice on this, but Mike Shinoda and iann dior are bleh. I can't get into any of Mike's solo music despite liking his contributions in Linkin Park because he sounds so painfully bored in all of his songs.
Breland f/ Mickey Guyton - “Cross Country” (Stacey, #1) vs. Fraxiom - “scawy monstews and nice spwites :3” (cf72, #6)
- "Cross Country" was fine. Just kinda generic mid-tempo country pop ballad. I don't think Breland and Mickey really sound that great together, and honestly, I didn't think Mickey sounded good at all on this song, and I've normally liked her voice. Something doesn't quite work for me. The Fraxiom song was cringe though, lol. I don't get why this kind of music is a thing, and it's something that is very rare for me to get into. Breland lives.
NEEV - “Dancing In The Stars” (Leo, #1) vs. Sara Kays - “Remember That Night?” (woods, #6)
- Not even six seconds into the song, it was already ruined because I just hear NEEV's spit like I'm listening to ASMR. I had to pause and reflect for a few moments before carrying on. This was painfully boring to me, and I don't think NEEV can sing particularly well. The music was kinda nice when the strings would come in, but those moments weren't very long. "Remember That Night?" was kind of generic, but it was fine. Nothing particularly memorable about it to me. Just felt like filler.
Carly Pearce - “29” (Bigfan101, #1) vs. Brave Girls - “We Ride” (fearlessarrow, #6)
- "29" was really nice. Huge fan of Carly's voice, even though I haven't been totally in love with her output following "Every Little Thing". This gets back to those heights. The production is really pretty, and the songwriting on this is top notch. Really good song. "We Ride" was a lot of fun. Kind of got some city pop vibes from it. Nice K-Pop song. I'm going with "29" here, but "We Ride" was a nice surprise.
Jake Hoot f/ Kelly Clarkson - “I Would've Loved You” (Tay, #1) vs. Noah Reid - “Honesty” (DistrictTwelve, #6)
- I knew when I Googled who Jake Hoot was, he was from The Voice lmao. That was the only explanation how a no name scored a collaboration with Kelly Clarkson. In all seriousness though, this was pretty nice. I didn't think their vocals worked well together at first, but as the song wore on, they started to grow on me. Nothing too amazing, but it's still a nice song nonetheless. "Honesty" was nice. It gave me vibes of a certain artist that charts on AAA, but I couldn't quite place it. Almost Dawes-like, but not quite. It was nice too. I have these tied in scores, but I'm gonna go with "Honesty" here more for the fact I think I'd find more use out of it in the end than "I Would've Loved You".
Ingrid Andress - “Both” (D3vin44, #1) vs. Julien Baker - “Hardline” (Kyle #6)
- I've seen the name Ingrid Andress multiple times, but I have no clue who she is or what she sings, lol. She's got a nice tone to her voice, and the song itself is nice. I'm not sure it made too much of a hold on me, but it was a pleasant listen. "Hardline" was good! I think I prefer "Repeat" to this slightly, but this was still good. Had this epic feeling by the end. Good song.
Freddie Gibbs f/ ScHoolboy Q - “Gang Signs” (MoD, #1) vs. Carly Pearce - “Should’ve Known Better” (Bigfan101, #6)
- "Gang Signs" is an absolute banger. Loved Freddie's output for this most recent era. This was probably bubbling under my already very loaded list. Freddie and ScHoolboy Q sound top notch on this. "Should've Known Better" is good, but "29" is immensely stronger to me. I love the steel guitar that comes in after the second chorus. I wish it appeared more (or more apparent, I should say) because the rest of the song leans more towards forgettable. Good song, but not particularly memorable coming from her.

Breland f/ Mickey Guyton - “Cross Country” (Stacey, #1) vs. Fraxiom - “scawy monstews and nice spwites :3” (cf72, #6) I'm... kinda shocked that I somewhat enjoy this Fraxiom song...

Carly Pearce - “29” (Bigfan101, #1) vs. Brave Girls - “We Ride” (fearlessarrow, #6) 29 is great too.

Woot - is this country round? So much from the tractors! Me, a supposed tractor sends a K-pop/city pop song amidst all the country songs: I did send an Ashley McBryde song though it's just not in this round

Dayglow - “Close To You” (jtd, #1) vs. Thomas Rhett - “What's Your Country Song” (Colbster, #6) - "Close To You" was on my shortlist for this but I ended up not sending it. Glad someone did sneak it in!
Ariana Grande - “pov” (Cynthia, #1) vs. Mike Shinoda f/ Iann Dior & UPSAHL - “Happy Endings” (Macattack, #6) - "pov" is one of Ariana's career highlights & her best album closer imo. excited that it's getting the single treatment!
Breland f/ Mickey Guyton - “Cross Country” (Stacey, #1) vs. Fraxiom - “scawy monstews and nice spwites :3” (cf72, #6) - "Cross Country" could have got my vote if it was a Mickey Guyton solo, but it isn't so I'm going with the more interesting track of the two.
NEEV - “Dancing In The Stars” (Leo, #1) vs. Sara Kays - “Remember That Night?” (woods, #6) - I enjoyed both of these but the storytelling in "Remember" paired with that singer-songwriter vibe is too damn scrumptious to pass.
Carly Pearce - “29” (Bigfan101, #1) vs. Brave Girls - “We Ride” (fearlessarrow, #6) - Both great songs. Going with the one I hadn't heard before.
Jake Hoot f/ Kelly Clarkson - “I Would've Loved You” (Tay, #1) vs. Noah Reid - “Honesty” (DistrictTwelve, #6) - "Honesty" was a pleasant & easy listen. Kelly sounded great but who is Jake Hoot and why
Ingrid Andress - “Both” (D3vin44, #1) vs. Julien Baker - “Hardline” (Kyle #6) - "Both" worked nicely, I'm pleasantly surprised. "Hardline" took a little too long to get into.
Freddie Gibbs f/ ScHoolboy Q - “Gang Signs” (MoD, #1) vs. Carly Pearce - “Should’ve Known Better” (Bigfan101, #6) - Another round where I feel similarly about two very different songs. Carly Pearce narrowly gets my vote.

Dayglow - “Close To You” (jtd, #1) vs. Thomas Rhett - “What's Your Country Song” (Colbster, #6) Dayglow is an artist
Ariana Grande - “pov” (Cynthia, #1) vs. Mike Shinoda f/ Iann Dior & UPSAHL - “Happy Endings” (Macattack, #6) If it weren't for iann dior and UPSAHL's hook, this would be way worse than it already is. Mike Shinoda's lyrics are just so cringey
Breland f/ Mickey Guyton - “Cross Country” (Stacey, #1) vs. Fraxiom - “scawy monstews and nice spwites :3” (cf72, #6) I didn't hate the Fraxiom track, even though it has nothing on the original Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites song. Cross Country was a big surprise though; this is the My Truck guy?
NEEV - “Dancing In The Stars” (Leo, #1) vs. Sara Kays - “Remember That Night?” (woods, #6) DITS definitely sounds likes a song made for song contests - that's not a compliment.
Carly Pearce - “29” (Bigfan101, #1) vs. Brave Girls - “We Ride” (fearlessarrow, #6) 29 is actually well-written and honest...but Brave Girls + city pop = B O P
Jake Hoot f/ Kelly Clarkson - “I Would've Loved You” (Tay, #1) vs. Noah Reid - “Honesty” (DistrictTwelve, #6) Haven't seen Schitt's Creek but this is good
Ingrid Andress - “Both” (D3vin44, #1) vs. Julien Baker - “Hardline” (Kyle #6) Both songs here are actually really good but as much as I love Hardline, I'm going with Both since it has a stronger melody
Freddie Gibbs f/ ScHoolboy Q - “Gang Signs” (MoD, #1) vs. Carly Pearce - “Should’ve Known Better” (Bigfan101, #6)

Dayglow - “Close To You” (jtd, #1) vs. Thomas Rhett - “What's Your Country Song” (Colbster, #6) Two songs I like going up against each other right off the bat! "Close To You" was a massive grower, I wasn't too keen on it at first but I love it now. "Can I Call You Tonight?" was the same for me too actually. The synths are so damn catchy in this song. "What's Your Country Song" is a jam too, it's on the better side as far as Thomas Rhett songs go. I like "Close To You" more though.
Ariana Grande - “pov” (Cynthia, #1) vs. Mike Shinoda f/ Iann Dior & UPSAHL - “Happy Endings” (Macattack, #6) "pov" is the best song on positions. It was one of my extras that didn't make the cut so of course I love it. I actually liked "Happy Endings" more than I expected to (the Karen line was not it though), but I easily prefer "pov".
Breland f/ Mickey Guyton - “Cross Country” (Stacey, #1) vs. Fraxiom - “scawy monstews and nice spwites :3” (cf72, #6) "Cross Country" is pleasant, Breland's vocal isn't the strongest but I guess it does the job here. I don't hate "scawy monstews and nice spwites :3" but I don't think I got much out of it either.
NEEV - “Dancing In The Stars” (Leo, #1) vs. Sara Kays - “Remember That Night?” (woods, #6) As much of a Eurovision fan as I am, I'm sorry Leo "Remember That Night?" is the better song here.
Carly Pearce - “29” (Bigfan101, #1) vs. Brave Girls - “We Ride” (fearlessarrow, #6) Noooooooo at this matchup. "29" is among the best Carly Pearce has released. She sounds great on it, and the lyrics hit hard. I'd probably vote for it against almost all the songs here that are not named "Close To You" and this very song "We Ride" that it's up against. Brave Girls is the act behind the biggest cinderella story in the K-pop world in 2021 (and possibly of all time even). They were on the brink of quitting the music industry altogether/disbanding after years of minimal success when a viral video involving their performances at military barracks with one of their songs "Rollin'" blew up and sent the song up the music charts (eventually became a multi-week #1 on the Korean charts). "We Ride" was the other main beneficiary of Brave Girls as a group going viral and has also been climbing up the charts (and now a top 10 hit in South Korea!) Anyways. "We Ride" is a rather sad city-pop song about a relationship becoming awkward between the two and this person's partner is just driving without any words being said between the two of them ("Just Drive" is the rough translation for the Korean title of the song). I've really dug the city-pop sound recently so this combined with the fact that I've liked Brave Girls before this, "We Ride" is right down my alley. So thank you all for giving it a shot and I hope some of you enjoyed it!
Jake Hoot f/ Kelly Clarkson - “I Would've Loved You” (Tay, #1) vs. Noah Reid - “Honesty” (DistrictTwelve, #6) I remember not feeling too strongly about "I Would've Loved You" when it came up in one of the new country releases RD. The vocals are great (I mean it's from a Voice winner and Kelly Clarkson, what do you expect) and the semi-prominent fiddles are nice but as a song it's a tad on the boring side for me. I only know Noah Reid from Schitt's Creek and I had not listened to his musical output before, and "Honesty" was a great introduction.
Ingrid Andress - “Both” (D3vin44, #1) vs. Julien Baker - “Hardline” (Kyle #6) Now "Both" is a song I ranked dead last in the Lady Like RD... I find the chorus of "Both" to be pretty grating, which is sad because the verses are quite nice. "Hardline" isn't exactly my favorite thing either - the buildup at the end is nice though. I guess I shall live up to my tractor name and vote for "Both".
Freddie Gibbs f/ ScHoolboy Q - “Gang Signs” (MoD, #1) vs. Carly Pearce - “Should’ve Known Better” (Bigfan101, #6) "Gang Signs" is nice, I liked the rapping over the mellow beat. Unfortunately for it, I like "Should've Known Better" more. It's not as strong as "29", but this one is pretty great too.
