The Chain Gang of 1974 - “Fall Into Me” (American Idiot, #2) vs. Boston Marriage - “Idols” (wheatsquares33, #5)
- I've gone back and forth a lot for this matchup. I honestly really like both of these songs almost the same. The production on "Fall Into Me" is so good, as is the instrumentation on "Idols". I think I'll give the ever so slight edge to "Idols", but this is such a close matchup for me!

Mac Ayres - “Nothing Else” (stallie, #2) vs. Bob Moses - “The Blame” (Tom, #5)
- Both of these are alright, but "The Blame" is not the best thing I've heard from Bob Moses. The production on it is still solid, but I was more intrigued by "Nothing Else". I like the beat on that one and the vocals are pretty good as well.

Dawn Richard - “Bussifame” (Shooter, #2) vs. K-391 & RØRY - “Aurora” (Keatonzab, #5)
- This is kind of a no brainer for me. "Aurora" is annoying and I do not like the vocals at all. But I really like the production on "Bussifame". It takes a lot of turns throughout the four and a half minutes, which keeps the song engaging. Her flow is really good as well.

Senses - “I Don't Wanna Change” (Tanooki, #2) vs. Kalie Shorr - “Escape” (bboat11, #5)
- "Escape" is a pleasant enough country tune, but not the most engaging of the bunch we've had thus far. "I Don't Wanna Change" isn't really all that great either, but I think I found it slightly more interesting.

Taylor Swift - “tolerate it” (Tay, #2) vs. UNKLE - “Farewell (Amtrac Remix)” (Trilogy, #5)
- "tolerate it" is a pretty song, but far from my favorite Taylor song within the past year. She sounds nice on it though. "Farewell" is a little long, but I found it very vibey and cool, so I enjoy it!

Arlo Parks - “Hurt” (wamdjones, #2) vs. Grimes - “Delete Forever” (1^∞, #5)
- This one is close for me because I've been digging Arlo Parks' music lately, but I also enjoy "Delete Forever" a fair bit. I've been meaning to dive deeper into Grimes' discography because I like most of what I've heard from her. I like the folk vibe and the instrumental is nice. So I'll give this to Grimes, but it's close.

Ichiko Aoba - “Dawn In The Adan” (Sambalada, #2) vs. Spiritbox - “Constance” (lyhom, #5)
- "Dawn In The Adan" is very pleasant and I like her voice. That said though, I think "Constance" is more interesting and I really dig the instrumentation on it.

Taylor Swift - “Love Story (Taylor's Version)” (GrinningLikeADevil, #2) vs. St. Vincent - “The Melting Of The Sun” (BB, #5)
- Idk why "Love Story" was allowed to be submitted. I understand it's her new re-recording of it, but I don't think her re-recordings of old songs belong in these tournaments. It's not THAT different from the original Fearless version. I do like the song, but I'm going with St. Vincent, who I like as well. I'm not too familiar with a lot of her music, but I really like what I've heard, and that now includes "The Melting Of The Sun".

Liked both of these. Great, driving indie rock songs. Idols had a great build, starting slow and exploding by the end. The melodies of Gang of 74 just captured my attention, though.

Liked the arpeggiated piano riff on Nothing Else. Nice, but unspectacular vocals. The Blame is a very cool bit of electronica.

UNKLE was ok, but went on too long. Yeah, we're seeing a lot of Taylor, but I'll vote for the new one over the rerun.

Hurt just has that great combo of poignant lyrics, interesting music and great production. Currently my #3 song of 2021. But this Grimes song is really good, too.

Ichiko gives me that Sufjan chamber pop vibe from his early albums. Very pretty (even if I don't understand the words). Spiritbox is a fun discovery and good little hard rock song.

As good as Love Story is, it's also only technically a new song. Plus, the St. Vincent jam is very good and creative, so easy vote here.

K, I was pretty sure I was gonna vote for "Down In The Adan" before listening to "Constance" since it was by far the best thing I've heard from Ichiko Aoba so far, but "Constance" was excellent too. Ultimately, gotta give it to the former though
