Hm, I can't vote against myself here, but this one doesn't come very easy. This most recent Chain Gang album is stellar, every song I've heard from it has been really good, I feel like they've been on my charts nonstop for almost a year at this point. And hey if you like this song, MJ-12 by Heavenward, Chain Gang of 1974's grunge side project, narrowly missed my own list (I had it between that song and OMG, basically coin flipped for my #6), give it a listen.

I like Nothing Else more than the other Mac Ayres song that was already in this tournament, iirc. Good production here. I've actually been charting the Lastlings remix of The Blame the last few months, I like it. And maybe it's just because that I'm more used to that version or because I often find Bob Moses too longwinded, but I prefer it. This is just too long for what it is. Think I'm actually going to give it to the first song here.

Oh, uh, so *that's* how to pronounce the title of this song, ok. Kinda got my hopes up honestly, but even as the song is, it's a pretty cool listen. Good chorus and rapping. But uhh Aurora is very much in that realm of "nightcore-revival" that I've heard a few times in this tournament and kinda dig, so I give it to Aurora.

Hhhhh, I listened to Dawn in the Adan and was thinking, wow Windswept Eden is actually a lot better than I remember? And I was gonna say something about how I'm not much of an albums guy and that listening to these individual Ichiko Aoba songs make me appreciate their sound much better and I was gonna give it the vote but. Think Constance is the best discovery I've gotten in this tournament so far? This is great, this is the kinda song I'd submit into a tournament. So...I gotta give it to Constance here, but as long as Pilgrimage stays in through the next few rounds I'll be good.

I actually quite like this re-recording of Love Story, as well as the other singles I've heard from the new Fearless. I mean, I don't like them so much that I want to listen to 26 Taylor Swift songs in a row, but still, respectable endeavor and well-executed as well, far as I can tell. I like Melting of the Sun more than I did Pay Money to My Pain wait no that's a j-rock band Pay Your Way in Pain but. Idk, still don't love it really. I wanna say I can appreciate St. Vincent going in a 70s funk/glam direction for a project but...I haven't been sold on the actual sound of it at all yet.

This matchup is one of those where two great songs are put against each other. The crescendo in "Fall With Me" is superb, with a powerful rendition of the chorus to cap things off. At the beginning the song pulls you in right away, it has a memorably ethereal sound, like The 1975 with more muscle. "Idols" is an indie banger, though, with a great female vocal (and slightly superior lyrics IMO), and the chorus is just as good as "Fall Into Me" if not better. I'm going to check out more by both bands, but for the sake of voting I give "Idols" a slight edge (give "Idols" more listens, it's not even at 10,000 streams on Spotify yet!).

It's difficult to describe Spiritbox. They're clearing playing metal but it's different from how most other bands are playing it. I guess "alternative metal" is the best description but it doesn't feel entirely accurate. One thing's for sure, they're damn good. Ichiko's song is pleasant but it doesn't hold my attention enough.

This matchup is highway robbery. Even in re-recorded form (some of the magic is indeed lost compared to the original), this is by far my favorite Taylor Swift song pre-folklore. The song is a fairy tale with a happy ending, sappy as hell, and I eat this up for some reason. Even if it's a bit weird coming from an older Taylor (although she tries to replicate her younger self and almost pulls it off), it's still a classic, and that gorgeous violin still tugs at your heartstrings. St. Vincent can't keep up with that, though "The Melting of the Sun" is a pretty good 70's jam.

It frustrates me that I like and respect Arlo Parks more than I actually enjoy her music. Not that it's bad, the lyrics are especially well-written and it is well composed. The Melting of the Sun, while a good retro song, is a bit too reserved in album version. If SNL version is considered, this would be more decisive.
