Black Myself was a pretty good piece of country soul, strong vocal performance. Sweet Trip's song was a very good discovery, kinda reminds me of a hazier Kero Kero Bonito, has a strong atmosphere. 

Black Country, New Road - “Track X” (Dremolus, #2) (light to decent 7) vs. Lianne La Havas - “Green Papaya” (rom, #5) (light to decent 8)
Hmm Track X was probably the most I've ever enjoyed a Black Country New Road song. It was still a little bit of a slog, but I definitely could see it growing on me, very good production. But Lianne is hard to beat.

Chevelle - “Self Destructor” (Macattack, #2) (decent to strong 7) vs. Maggie Rogers - “Celadon & Gold” (Adrian C., #5) (decent to strong 6)
I'm surprised I still enjoy new Chevelle music as much as I do, they've still got it. Well uh actually I haven't really liked any of the other singles I've heard from their new album, but Self Destructor is great. This Maggie Rogers song is decent, definitely more rustic than her post-Alaska output, but also kind of more indistinct. It's decent enough folk pop, but I prefer her poppier work.

Heartbreak Song could easily be one of those "pleasant enough country pop songs I don't remember", but I think it does actually outshine a good few that have been in this tournament so far. I really like Callista Clark's vocals here, she has an almost pop punk/emo edge to her voice that translates over to country pop surprisingly well. The tune itself is still kinda forgettable, but I could see myself coming back to this one or at least hearing more from this singer. Sunshine State of Mind had a pretty good start as well, I like the verses but the chorus kinda falls flat, though I do like the little synth riff. It's a decent blend of country and indie pop, but I think I prefer Heartbreak Song still.

I thiiiink I've heard a Holly Humberstone song I like? I wanted to say it was this one, but I think I heard it in a previous Madness and I don't love this one relistening to it. It's fine, sounds like every other bedroom pop artist from the last couple years. Get Down was a lot of fun though! I like the retro hip hop vibes on this a lot.

I'm not going to vote against myself here, but Tour de France is a good first listen. Lots of moving parts to this instrumental that work together really well, catchy vocal. Good disco track I'll come back to.

Oh. Wow, RTJ4 feels like it came out forever ago (even though it was pretty much the definitive album of 2020 for me, feels so long ago). Out of Sight is good, but not my favorite from the album. I listened to like...half of the DJ Sabrina album a few months ago (3 hours is long af) and enjoyed it enough, charted Next to Me briefly, never came back to it. But this is a super good song! I really like it! Their style is so good. I don't wanna vote against RTJ really, but I'm definitely more likely to chart Right Now, so I'm going to give it my vote. It's close though.

- Love the instrumentation in “Black Myself”, overall a really solid song. There’s a nice country/rock vibe going on that I really like. I really would love to vote for it but “Walkers” is exactly the type of song I love listening to. The dreaminess and overall vibe are just so good to me.

- The instrumental on “Track X” is my favorite part of the song. The slow buildup is really awesome. The guy’s voice kind of irritated me at times, but again I think it just takes me a bit of time to get used to these types of vocals lol. “Green Papaya” actually spent time on my personal chart, definitely one of my favorites from her album. Lianne’s voice is just incredible, and I really love the subtle nature of the song.

- “Self Destructor” has some nice guitarwork going on, not sure how much I’d listen to it but it’s a cool discovery. “Celadon & Gold” was one of my favorites from Maggie’s recent project, having also charted on my personal charts for a bit as well. I do think it works a b it more in the context of the album but also it’s a really solid song imo.

- “Heartbreak Song” is a fun jam! Actually same with “Sunshine State Of Mind”. Both of these feel like songs I would find myself jamming to now and then, though I think I’m feeling “Sunshine” just a bit more.

- I’ll admit, it took a bit for “Falling” to catch my interest, though once the production picks up near the 2 minute mark it’s a solid track. “Get Down” is so good! There’s some really cool things going in the production, from the more dance-oriented nature, to the jazz influences in certain parts of the song. Adding this to my library for sure!

- I’ve really been enjoying a lot of Wheat’s picks in this madness so far. “Down” is just a blast from start to finish. Love this song! “Tour” has such a cool beat, definitely a nice first listen. This is the round of jams!

- “out of sight” is definitely one of my favorite songs from one of my favorite albums of 2020. I’m running out of words to say but solid song. I’ve been wanting to check out DJ Sabrina’s album for a while now, so I’m happy to get an introduction to it. “Right Now” is a jam, sort of reminds me of “Impact” by SG Lewis. Both of these are great songs tbh.

- Starting off strong I see! I love the instrumentation on "Black Myself" and this rock feel it has with elements of country and soul. Her voice is stellar and the message is important. Really great song! The Sweet Trip song is cool as well. It's the more vibey track of the two and the production here is pretty nice. This could honestly go either way for me!

- Both of these are really pleasant listens. "Track X" has some really nice instrumental choices that I dig. The light instrumental on "Green Papaya" is really nice as well and I love how she sounds here. I think I lean towards Lianne, but again, this could kind of go either way.

- "Self Destructor" is kind of a banger! I love the instrumentation and the vocals blend nicely. I've been meaning to come around to this one since I've seen this song on a few personal charts. I enjoy it, but I have to stick with Maggie here. "Celadon & Gold" has a really nice vibe to it and I love the guitars here! Her voice is really nice as always. I'll admit that I'm not too familiar with her work outside of a few select songs, but I really dig this song.

- These are both perfectly pleasant country tunes. I like the instrumental on both songs, but I think I slightly prefer "Heartbreak Song" in terms of vocals. They're both pretty fine songs and I don't have too strong of a preference, but I have to go for one.

- "Falling Asleep At The Wheel" is pretty nice, although it wasn't until almost halfway into the song that I started to really find it interesting. I do like how the song progresses though, so I enjoy it overall. "Get Down" is a funky jam and I love the production here! I must say that this is a really good set so far!

- "Down When I'm Not" definitely caught me off guard with the way it started. It's kind of cool and the instrumentation is solid. I'm not sure I like this as much as the other Greg Puciato song that came earlier in the tournament, but it has some elements that I enjoy. The production on "Tour De France" is really infectious. This sounds like something I could listen to once and it'll be stuck in my head for hours.

- I've warmed up a lot to Run The Jewels recently and I can see why their music is so critically acclaimed. "Out of Sight" isn't my favorite of their songs that I've heard, but it has a cool beat and they have great flow. "Right Now" has really nice production that I found myself moving to a lot. I do think the song is a little long given that there's not a whole lot of progression, but it's still a well-made tune overall.

Both songs were decent but "Black Myself" distinguished itself a bit more in my opinion. It had a neat combination of country, soul, and rock. 

Black Country, New Road - “Track X” (Dremolus, #2) vs. Lianne La Havas - “Green Papaya” (rom, #5)
This was another interesting song by Black Country, New Road. It was significantly more digestible at 4:44 too, without losing any of their unique sound or feel. "Green Papaya" is okay. 

Chevelle - “Self Destructor” (Macattack, #2) vs. Maggie Rogers - “Celadon & Gold” (Adrian C., #5)
"Self Destructor" is one of the most meticulously crafted hard rock/metal songs of the last few years. Not a single moment goes to waste despite the long length, even the piano at the end feels absolutely integral to the song. The Loeffler brothers gave this one everything they had, with complex drum rhythms, carefully crafted layers of guitars and bass, and the gentle sprinkling of piano for that extra melodic topping; making this single an audio tour de force. Pete Loeffler does an interesting warbling effect on his voice for this one, and I can't really picture this song working as well without it. A great comeback single, powerful enough that it peaked at #35 on Alternative, which has been really shy towards hard rock and metal for almost a decade now, in addition to a strong #1 on Mainstream Rock.  "Celadon & Gold" is fine but "Self Destructor" was my choice and I will keep backing it.

Gotta choose between two tractors, huh? I think "Sunshine State of Mind" is the better model of tractor, it has almost an indie, alt-country vibe to it, with a few adjustments I could see this smashing on Triple A.

"Falling Asleep At The Wheel" is sorely underappreciated, it's one of the best bedroom pop songs I've come across, it has a strong melody and a great flow to it. "Get Down" has a great old school Eurodance/techno vibe to it, which strikes a chord with me. "Get Down" is lively and more memorable so I'm going to give it my vote, but I strongly recommend "Falling Asleep At The Wheel" as a sterling example of bedroom pop.

"Down When I'm Not" was cool as hell, it reminded me of a faster Social Distortion song. He sounds so different here than on his Dillenger Escape Plan material, but I like this sound for him a lot. "Tour De France" was basically a neo-disco song performed in Finnish, it sounds alright but Greg's track fits too squarely in my wheelhouse for me to not give it my vote.

It's Run The Jewels, they're consistently at the top of their game and "out of sight" is a highlight from RTJ4. I will say that "DJ Sabrina The Teenage DJ" is definitely one of the more unique names for an artist and "Right Now" had a great throwback drum n bass (mixed with house) feel to it. It made what would often be an automatic vote for me much more difficult.

"Black Myself" has a nice country-rock sound, kind of reminds me of Yola. I really enjoy the atmosphere and production in "Walkers Beware! We Drive Into The Sun". Hmm this is pretty tough.

I know some people love Chevelle but personally idk if I've gotten into them a ton (I'm sure I've ranked their songs decently high in some RDs but I haven't felt the urge to come back to those songs). "Celadon & Gold" has a nice vibe to it! It sort of faded into the background for me, but it's enough for me to vote for it here.

I'm getting lazy with the comments but musically I enjoyed both. The vocals in "Tour De France" aren't my favorite but overall it wins out because the music aspect is so good. Plus as a sender of songs in non-English languages I shall support songs not sung in English.
