- “Design” was one of my top discoveries from Shooter’s 2020 rankdown series, it’s such a jam! “I’m Satisfied” is a really great discovery as well, I saved it to my library right away. I really wish both of these could go through, and I'd love to vote for both of these if I could.

"Design" is a bop, yo. It's too infectious to resist.

I actually understand the backlash to "drivers license". It was overplayed on pop radio for months, in response to the viral breakout the song had. It was a necessary response - if radio wants to stay relevant it has to respond to the viral hits right away. And it's still obvious why the song was so big - it builds exceptionally well with some superb, vulnerable lyrics sung by Olivia. It's not just a song, it's a story, with its ups and downs. "Valleys" is the way more Pulse-friendly song with its energetic beat and lively production. It almost doesn't need its lyrics because the instrumental is just that good. I'm going to give it to "drivers license" for this round.

AAAAAAGH THIS MATCHUP IS EVIL. I still like "Monsters", a lot, the "strung out like laundry on every line" lyric is still one of my favorites in recent years. I get why it's getting blown out though, it's suffering from the same effect as "drivers license", overplay by radio desperate for a hit (that, and blackbear doesn't seem to have fans around here lol). "1 Last Cigarette" is a delicious slice of powerpop though, marrying hard rock guitars to pop-friendly hooks and an uptempo beat with miserable lyrics. The dichotomy works very well, and that's why it gets my vote, even though "Monsters" was one of my top songs of 2020.

"Leave Me Alone" is another one of my top songs of 2020 (and honestly I would have nominated it myself if I had known it was still eligible). There's so much going on in it - there's layers after layers of instrumentation to take in, to say nothing of the confident delivery of Dallon Weekes (formerly of Panic! At The Disco). "Music Makes Me High" is an adequate house-y song but it wasn't going to get thru IDKHOW for me.

I think one thing this Madness thing has taught me is that Rico Nasty is not for me. "Fire In Bone" is not the best track from the recent Killers album but it has a neat sound to it, I like the bass and synths in it quite a bit.
