"By The Light Of A Burning Bridge" is just such a pleasant song in every way. I have never considered it a knockout smash or anything, but I just plain feel so relaxed and content whenever it is on. I love the way the tempo kinda picks up as George launches into the chorus. This is probably a good spot though, considering how competitive this rankdown is!

"Don't Tell Me You're Not In Love" is such a sweet song. I love that it's not a traditional love song, in that it's framed around a woman who is a little bit shy and hesitant to jump into a relationship, but you can clearly tell from her body language that she's fighting a losing battle. It's a unique perspective, that feels so wholesome and sweet thanks George's interpretation.

"Stay Out Of My Arms" was our #3 finisher in the '90s rankdown, so this leaving now is proof that just about anything could be on the chopping block! This is a catchy jam, that I definitely think could have been a hit if it had been released. It's kinda hard to argue with the success of the singles from the Easy Come Easy Go era, but I have a suspicion this would have probably been more remembered than at least "Lovebug" or something!

One of the things that I love about George Strait is, as consistent as he has always been, he still finds a way to have unique arrangements that help certain songs to feel fresh in the context of his full career. "She Used To Say That To Me" is one such song. There is no denying that you are about to hear a great song from the moment you hear that descending guitar intro, and I love the way it keeps getting used in all the musical transitions throughout the song. The arrangement imo helps to elevate what would otherwise be a pretty average song into something a lot more memorable.

"Lefty's Gone" is such a random song to have in last place, lmao, but that's exactly what nathanalbright did! This is George's tribute to one of his icons, Lefty Frizzell, although I've gotta say, even if you don't know anything about Lefty (like me, lol), this is still a pleasant listen with an engaging melody and a warm vocal. It's a good time for it to be leaving, imo, but this WAS our #5 finisher in the '80s rankdown, so like I said for "Stay Out Of My Arms", truly ANYTHING could be on the table moving forward!

One reveal after nathanalbright 's last place leaves us, gonecountry is blessed with the exit of his own! "Honky Tonk Time Machine" is the title track of George's most recent album, and has some of the most effervescent uptempo energy of his late-career! However, I think this is an okay place for it to leave. I generally feel like George's vocals are aging pretty well, but they do sound a liiiiittle weaker on this song than everything else, which is enough to lower it substantially on my list considering how strong this list is.
Believe it or not, there are still TWO last place ranks remaining! How much longer will gardyfan and LBTrocks have to wait for their bottom song to be eliminated?? (Hint: We won't be finding out tonight ;) )

With that, after getting two songs into the top 35, the Honky Tonk Time Machine era has been eliminated in one fell swoop! "Some Nights" is the fan favorite from this era, and managed to make it all the way to #4 in the 2010s album tracks rankdown.

I hope LBTrocks didn't think it was THAT "She'll Leave You With A Smile" when he submitted his list with this as his #1
"She'll Leave You With A Smile" is a title that has taken on a whole new meaning in George's career since this song was released, seeing as it was the name of a huge #1 smash hit on his Road Less Traveled era, about the time he headlined that infamous final show at the Houston Astrodome! This version from 1997's Carrying Your Love With Me, however, is a completely different song, and a beautiful one at that! Carrying Your Love With Me is another George Album that is filled to the brim with missed hit opportunities despite having an undeniable amount of songs that did actually end up smashing too. "She'll Leave You With A Smile" is a beautiful song about a woman who will love you for awhile, but then she will ultimately leave you and feel no remorse, wearing a smile as she walks away. It's generally a similar theme to the famous hit, actually, lmao, but this one is in ballad form!

One of the highlights from Pure Country, "The King Of Broken Hearts" is our final entry to miss the top 30, and only by three points! This song has such a unique melody that helps it to be instantly recognizable in George's catalog, and honestly feels like such a quintessential George Strait song that I bet there are casual fans who would be surprised to learn that it WASN'T a hit! It's similar to "Where The Sidewalk Ends" in that regard.

Yikes, I've got some catching up to do now that bboat11 is zooming through this all of a sudden . I don't want to take up room with a word wall, so I'll just put forth my thoughts behind a spoiler until I'm all caught up. {Reveals 55 - 46} “Everything I See” - I need to dust off the Cold Beer Conversation album and give it a spin or two because it just isn’t one I revisit much at all. Whenever I do, though, this is a song that I’ll seek out from it. That said, I just couldn’t rank this any higher than just outside of my bottom 10 because of how infrequently I revisit the album. “Which Side of the Glass” - I’m almost shaking my head at placing this just a spot shy of my bottom 5 as it’s certainly a go-to from his self-titled release. Many of my bottom-tier songs were only placed there because I’m less likely to seek them out on their own and this is just one example of that. “She Loves Me (She Don’t Love You)” - This is a particular favorite of mine that I remember playing quite a bit as a kid. Always thought this would’ve made for a solid single choice from the album. “Texas” - I personally have never thought of this song as being cliche, but I just certainly see why someone might have that viewpoint. As bboat11 mentioned, this received quite a bit of unsolicited airplay back during the albums release that it was even able to make its mark on the country charts. I still hear this randomly from time to time down here in Texas which shouldn’t come as a surprise lol. Of all the songs George has sung about the Lone Star State, this is my favorite of them all. George and the band also kill this song live! “Every Time It Rains (Lord Don’t It Pour)” - I really wish I could’ve ranked this a bit higher because admittedly it was a childhood favorite of mine. Like, I’m pretty sure I remember jamming out to this repeatedly enough that my mom started pounding her foot on the floor upstairs to let me know she’d had enough lol. Anyways, it’s a rather quirky song that’s for sure! “The Steal of the Night” - Yet another song I had on repeat quite a bit back in the day when I was first discovering George’s earlier albums (and one of his best!). “Holding My Own” - There’s so much nostalgia wrapped up in tracks such as this one as it was between 1991-1992 that my journey into becoming a lifelong fan began. At the time I was still a young boy grieving the loss of his father, so lyrically this was a song I gravitated to quite a bit. “Honkytonkville” - This was kind of an easy last place for me as I’ve just never cared for it all that much. I don’t know if it’s the production or what, but yea more than not I find myself always skipping over this one. “He Must Have Really Hurt You Bad” - Again, I’m kind of shaking my head when looking at my bottom 10 ranking for this! This song just falls victim to how great everything is here and also it being another less-frequented track. “Why Not Now” - I had an unusually hard time finding a spot for this in my top 40 for whatever reason. That surprised me because I’ve long thought this was a missed opportunity that would’ve done great at radio back then. I’m also just as surprised to see it leave already!

Ok, let's do this! {Reveals 45 - 41} “Her Goodbye Hit Me in the Heart” - This has always been one of my favorite tracks from his debut album. I’m sure George would’ve preferred this as a single over “Down and Out” as this seems to be a personal favorite of his as well. I wasn’t expecting this to do much better than where it landed, but it’s a solid showing nonetheless.
“When Love Comes Around Again” - I do often overlook just how great of a record Love Is Everything is as it’s chock-full of great songs such as this one. George also seems to have been feeling nostalgia for this record as he included two tracks from this in his most recent concert in Arizona including “You Don’t Know What You’re Missing” and “When the Credits Roll”, both of which I believe to be the first time ever performed live.
“Always Never the Same” - The title track has long been a guilty pleasure of mine and one that I still like to put on and jam out to from time to time.
“Overnight Male” - I actually think this should’ve been selected as Pure Country’s third single over “When Did You Stop Loving Me” as it fits perfectly into the neo-traditonal sound of early 90s country. Anecdotally, I hear this frequently enough locally on the stations that you’d think it was in fact a single.
“I’d Just As Soon Go” - I don’t think I like this one quite as much a I did back in the day, but it’s still at the top of the list of tracks I frequently revisit from Blue Clear Sky. {Reveals 40 - 36} “Haven’t You Heard” - Next to “The Chair”, this is probably my favorite song from Something Special. George has also mentioned this being a personal favorite of his, much to his dad’s chagrin as I think it hit a little too close to home for the family.
“By the Light of a Burning Bridge” - Another song that I had a hard time ranking of which I probably should placed a tad bit higher. Again, much of the songs that landed further down on my list only did so because I don’t often seek them out unless I’m revisiting the album in its entirety.
“Don’t Tell Me You’re Not in Love” - Nothing much to add to this one other than that it is a favorite track of mine from The Road Less Traveled. Problem is, this is just an overall solid album from beginning to end (which is obviously a good problem to have lol).
“Stay Out of My Arms” - I’ve come to enjoy this song more and more over the years! I’m not sure how it would’ve fared at radio, but it likely would’ve been a solid hit. I still wouldn’t have taken it over “Lovebug” though (sorry @bboat!).
“She Used to Say That To Me” - I think I must have some mixed feelings overall regarding Honkytonkvile which may be in part to them leading with “Tell Me Something Bad About Tulsa” and completely overlooking “As Far As It Goes”. That said, this falls into the category has a must to listen to whenever revisiting the album. {Reveals 35 - 30} “Lefty’s Gone” - I never would’ve pegged this to be such a favorite in these rankdowns, but color me surprised! This certainly outperformed my expectations each time including here. “Honky Tonk Time Machine” - I had this one on repeat when it was first released and just couldn’t get enough of it. I haven’t put this album on in a while, so I think it’s high time to jam out to it some more! “Some Nights” - I think this is likely my most-played song from Honky Tonk Time Machine and for good reason. Many of us fans were hoping to see this released as a single (even sabre14 was rooting for that), but alas it wasn’t meant to be. The landscape at country radio has changed quite a bit since 2019, so I do wonder if this entire album would’ve fared better including “Every Little Honky Tonk Bar”. “She’ll Leave You With a Smile” - This is right up there with being one of my favorite tracks from CYLWM. While I don’t think it would’ve made for a good single, it certainly makes for a gem of an album track to revisit. “The King of Broken Hearts” - This song had a rather prominent placement in the movie and deservedly so. Add this to the list of album tracks I still hear frequently down here in the Lone Star State.

We kick off the top 30 with one of my all-time favorites! "One Of You" is SO EFFING CATCHY. There has never been a day where this song doesn't just randomly pop into my head at least once. Fortunately I never get tired of it! They just don't make melodies like this these days!

I am honestly surprised to see "A Better Rain" last this long, but not at all disappointed! This song just has such a calming vibe to it that I never quite get tired of. I also love how warm and resonant George's vocals are in the first verse. I've never considered it quite a missed hit opportunity, considering how STACKED It Just Comes Natural is as an album, but it's definitely an album track that I frequently revisit.

"Poison" happens to have one of the best lyrics describing a toxic lover that I have ever heard. "Ruby lips hid a razor tongue and a heart blue as glacier ice." SO picturesque and vivid! Definitely a highlight from the 2010s.

"Make Her Fall In Love With Me Song" has always felt to me like the hit that got away from the Troubadour album. This is yet another catchy song, that would be so fun to jam out to in just about any context where you would be jamming out to it. On the radio, on a jukebox, in a concert, in a dance playlist, etc. Anywhere people are feeling good, this song could have a place!
