SEVEN people still have their last place remaining I legit don't think I have ever seen a rankdown with more boneheaded last place ranks! Although nobody has lost their #1 yet either as we're heading into the top 20, which is pretty unusual for an album tracks rankdown!!! That won't last much longer, of course ;)

"A Better Rain" is a stop you in your tracks kind of song and George does a great job of conveying the raw emotion needed for a song such as this one. It's such a hauntingly beautiful song and I'm surprised it garnered a last place ranking.

It Just Comes Natural only lasted one position as the only album with four songs remaining, as it loses its second song right after Somewhere Down In Texas. "A Better Rain" was flirting with the top 20 for much of the submission process, unsure whether it was going to be able to barely make it or barely miss it. In the end this is one of the only instances where taylor moved a great song in a positive direction, securing it a place in the top 20! .indulgecountry loses his last place finally, which has got to be a relief after how this rankdown has gone for him. I can understand why someone might dislike this song, but to me there is just something so soothing and relaxing about it. It would definitely be boring in the hands of a less seasoned vocalist, but George's velvety baritone brings this song to life in a way that nobody else would quite be able to replicate. I love some of the imagery in the lyrics as well. Similar to "That's My Kind Of Woman", I just get such warm, pleasant vibes while listening to this song. So while I can understand it being disliked, I'm kinda pleasantly surprised to see it place in the top 20!

Oh wow, taylor really did do a number on "He Must Have Really Hurt You Bad" didn't they! Always disappointing to see a steady top 15 song get kicked out only at the last moment.

Anyway, there it is. The first #1 loss of the rankdown belongs unfortunately to yours truly "He Must Have Really Hurt You Bad" has long been one of my favorite George songs of all time. It has a quirky structure, but the melody and lyrics are sooooo amazing!!!! The juxtaposition between the title being sung low in one line and then sung high the next time he says it is a particularly effective melodic moment that gets stuck in my head every time. It is also just so well-written, as you can get a full sense for the heartbroken lady's emotions without actually hearing once from her perspective. I was so thrilled to see this be a strong top 15 contender for (nearly) the entire rankdown..... You can imagine how close together some of these next few results are considering how much taylor 's not-even-bottom-five rank was able to displace this at the last minute!!

I was just revisiting "He Must Have Really Hurt You Bad" the other day and it's somewhat reminiscent of "I Hate Everything" as George is singing from the viewpoint of a bartender. I also just love the final verse of the song where George says Stay home girl, He must have really hurt you bad.

"Easy As You Go" was one of those songs that people kinda propped up like it would be a great single when it was first released, but imo it has not aged as well as missed hit opportunities usually do. More than half of us put it in our top 20, so it is still relatively well liked, but it only had one top 10 rank, so it didn't have nearly enough high passion to do any better than this. I was actually all on board for this being released as a single from Twang back when the album first came out, but I have to agree that in hindsight it likely wouldn't have made for a great choice after all. I also agree that the song hasn't held up as well overtime for whatever reason. The strongest aspect of the song I think is the melody. Not surprised by any of the other four songs to leave before the top 20 and I'm glad to see that "Honkytonkville" didn't make it any further. That's about the only song I find myself skipping from what is otherwise a solid album. I can't quite pinpoint what it is about the song that I dislike, but for a lack of a better word I find it to be a bit corny. "Somewhere Down In Texas" was my highest lost thus far I believe, but it did about as well as I would've guessed. I too wish that George would have included this in his final tour as it seems like it would've been very fitting.

"Stars On The Water" bows out next as our next, as our second most polarizing song! The autotune is undoubtedly the biggest reason behind this song being as polarizing as it is. This song got two last place ranks from castleoblivion26 and kw9461 , and I would be willing to bet that the autotune is a huge reason as to why. Personally, I find this song to be a major jam!!!! The instrumental in the beginning gets me perched every time with its layered entry gradually getting more and more complex. This song is also a major jam live, which proves that the autotune wasn't at all necessary for the enjoyment of the song.... But I don't really mind it! To me it gives the song a lot of character, especially because it is being used as a blatant and fun artistic choice rather than something that is needed to make the vocals not suck, lol.

The album The Road Less Traveled is such a great example of how George was able to adapt to the times and still remain true to himself. In the case of "Stars On the Water", George's producer Tony Brown was able to talk him into adding the slightest bit of autotune. I've always loved this song and still wish they had released it as a single. George himself must like this song just as much because he's all but included this in his setlist ever since. I also might add that I still hear this song on Texas radio quite frequently.

"A Better Rain" goes absolutely nowhere. It's just so dreary and boring. That chorus melody is awful, coupled with those Lady Antebellum-style strings globbed all over it. I just don't hear what other people hear in it, because this was an easy weak link for me in such a list of interesting uptempo jams and ballads with much more gripping melodies and production jobs.

Not surprised to see "Stars on the Water" end up right in the middle given its polarizing nature. I'm definitely on the side that thinks its a jam tho. The autotune is really fun on it.

Time for ClevelandRox to be made to feel bad for a boneheaded last place!!!! Actually, I am SHOCKED to see "Which Side of the Glass" do this well!!! Similar to "She Took The Wind From His Sails", this is another song that is just so unique coming from George. It doesn't really sound like anything else in his career, and people either love that or hate it. Personally I love this one a lot!!! But I was expecting it to be an easy bottom 10, at least. You also get a lot more value listening to this song on great speakers, as the bass drops in the first chorus are absolutely to die for Most headphones/bluetooth speakers/car speakers can't pick up bass very fully in that low register that it goes into, so you would never know what you're missing....

It's great to see George's self-titled album perform as well as it has here! It often gets overlooked amongst the rest of George's discography as there wasn't necessarily a major hit to come out it (and of course George went years without even singing "Go On" live until he finally did in Las Vegas a few years ago), but "Which Side of the Glass" is a great example to display the strength of the album tracks. Every time I revisit this song I fall in love with it all over again.

Not a big fan of it. Poor Twang was done exceptionally dirty. :'(

Completely agree as I find it kind of interesting that The Road Less Traveled has received a somewhat lukewarm response from Pulse. That era really helped to bring George's career into the 21st century and without it I'm not sure he would've necessarily seen the same amount of success as it provided him quite a bit of momentum so to speak. It also happens to be one of my favorite album covers from him
