It’s not like there’s much singing on “Truth Hurts” except for the background vocals, maybe thats what they were referring to. It has elements of both genres, but is clearly more pop-leaning
Also RIP Lizzo’s luck at the 2020 GRAMMYS being up against Billie eilish for BNA when we all know she would’ve easily won that award any other year

It's already well past the tracking week's end (excluding radio), so unless the song gets significant traction in all channels soon, it'll be gone for good this week.

Billboard can’t categorize songs wbk I mean, they also put "Blinding Lights" as a R&B song, and "High Hopes" as a rock song (but omitted "Take What You Want"). Billboard's methodology of categorizing songs is really a weird one. OT: As for "Truth Hurts", I do consider it leaning more towards melodic hip hop than straight-forward pop, but it's definitely much poppier than "7 rings". I guess the comparisons with "Black Beatles" helped to attach a hip hop label to the song as well.

The record for highest kWorb aud ever is 305.41, set by Happy on April 4, 2014: kworb.net/radio/archives/20140404.htmlOnly one song (drivers license) on today's list has over one-third (101.80) of Happy's peak kWorb aud. Wow that's insane. I had always heard radioplay was down but had never seen a statistic like that. Part of it is radio being down, but part of it is also that songs don't get multi-format play like they used to. The songs that had huge airplay totals - We Belong Together and Happy for instance - were played on like 5-6 formats at the same time. "driver's license" is not getting play on that many formats. One big reason Blinding Lights has hung around so long is it gets solid play from more formats than most songs.

Wow that's insane. I had always heard radioplay was down but had never seen a statistic like that. At least the fall of radio was gradual. It took 7 years to get to this point. Even that drop does not match the collapse of sales in the 2nd half of the 2010s decade. The fall of sales, starting in 2016, was rather sudden. In November 2015, Hello debuted with 1,112,000 digital sales. Just one year later, in Closer's final week at #1, it had only 72,000 digital sales. That's a drop of 93.53% over one year! (Not to mention, that record fell by the end of 2016, as Black Beatles went to #1 with just 70,000 digital sales.) To put that drop into perspective, imagine that one year after Happy's peak, Earned It had passed Uptown Funk at #1 with 19.77 aud, and then See You Again passed Earned It the following month with 19.23 aud.

I don't think comparing the record breaking debut of "Hello" to any other week makes sense, though. "Hello" wasn't the norm, and that drop you mention doesn't really tell the full, actual story. You could probably also choose a random week for "The Hills" and compare it to the peak week of "Closer" in 2016 and act like sales increased from 2015 to 2016.

"Mood" spent 11 weeks at #1 on airplay, having reached the #1 position more than half a year after "Blinding Lights" did; "Mood" has now fallen below "Blinding Lights" on the airplay chart. Let that sink in.

Why is El Montero is low in airplay despite the song is strong in the chart?

"Mood" spent 11 weeks at #1 on airplay, having reached the #1 position more than half a year after "Blinding Lights" did; "Mood" has now fallen below "Blinding Lights" on the airplay chart. Let that sink in. kworb's Billboard Radio Songs Estimates 2020/12/26 1(=) 24kGoldn - Mood (feat. iann dior) 133.28(-0.65) 9(=) The Weeknd - Blinding Lights 71.57(-0.61) I don't know what is crazier, the fact that BL overcame Mood's nearly 2-1 advantage during the Christmas season, or that BL's kWorb aud is still nearly 10M higher than it was 3.5 months ago. The last time BL was below 71M aud was on 3/3/2020 (over 13 months ago), when it was at 69.67M aud.

A few had maybe 2 albums of hits, but the point is no one on here had Hot 100 success for more than a couple years. These 1996 flashbacks are always great. I loved music then and have a lot of memories from adolescence so it's nostalgic, too.
