Queen and Bowie are both great and legendary and all and I like plenty from both artists, but I absolutely cannot stand Under Pressure

Wanted to do something special for this extra. Since my parents were best friends with B.E. Taylor, I asked them to write a little about what comes to mind when they hear this song. {Mom (click this text to read)}My start in radio began late 81' shortly after high school and I was into Top40 & Rock Radio. Q-FM 96 in Columbus, Ohio in the Summer of 82' played The B.E. Taylor Group's "Never Hold Back". B.E.'s strong vocals and Rick Witkowski's guitar sold me. Heard they were from my mother's home area of Wheeling, WV/Steubenville, OH so that started my fandom. Little did I know 11 years later I would become friends with B.E. and his talented group of musicians as The B.E. Taylor Christmas Shows would bring the Love of Christmas to fans throughout the Midwest. Happy you're being introduced to this amazing talent! {Dad (click this text to read)}I had the pleasure of knowing B.E. Taylor (I just called him Bill) from the B.E. Taylor Group from 1990 until his passing in 2017. B.E. Taylor was in a number of bands in the late 1960s and early 1970s. He and Donnie Iris (the Jaggerz/Wild Cherry/Donnie Iris & the Cruisers) grew up in the same area of Western Pennsylvania and would form a duo in the mid-70s. Somewhere there are recordings of these great vocalists together, which have never been heard. Donnie would lend his voice to two B.E. Taylor Christmas songs in the 1990s.
B.E. was the 'tour' vocalist for the Ohio band The Law, as well as the 'tour' vocalist for the band Q -- which had a Top 40 hit called "Dancin' Man". B.E Taylor auditioned to be the lead vocalist for legendary Prog Rock band, Crack the Sky after John Palumbo left after the second LP. He recorded five songs that might have been on the Safety in Numbers LP -- but they went with another singer. Those songs are in someone's attic and should be heard.
His relationship with the members of Crack the Sky DID eventually lead to the formation of the B.E. Taylor Group. Guitar wizard Rick Witkowski and Bill became best friends and were joined by Joey D'Amico and Joe Macre. The B.E. Taylor Group released three major label LPs in the 1980s, two on MCA/Sweet City and one on CBS Associated. (Epic) They scored several Billboard/Cash Box/Record World Top 100 entries including "Vitamin L" - which reached #64; "Reggae Rock n' Roll" and "Karen" which both cracked the 90s. They were HUGE in Pittsburgh, and did well in Cleveland and a few other places.
"Never Hold Back" was from the debut LP Innermission. The album was produced by the aforementioned Donnie Iris and Marc Avsec. Frankly, I personally feel that the production 'thinned' B.E.'s voice, too much. He sounds way better on Love Won the Fight and the Our World LPs. Nevertheless, "Never Hold Back" did get support and made it to #54 on the Rock Tracks chart. It was a crowd favorite in concert for the rest of his career.
B.E. was also the 'house band' on the popular Christian video show, Light Music -- which won several Dove awards. He ventured into Christmas music in the 1990s and 2000s playing in front of hundreds of thousands fans at his B.E. Taylor Christmas Shows which I helped launch in 1995 and continued until his untimely passing in 2017. Oh, fun fact, Bill was one of the voices you heard on the "Nick at Night" jingles in the 1990s as well.
His son, B.C. Taylor is the drummer for Country artist Filmore.
If you like Melodic Rock, I highly recommend checking out the three LPs from the 1980s; at least one, Our World, can be found on CD via a Japan and/or German distributor. EXTRA
