Imagine finding both these Brad Paisley songs so bad, they both get put in your 90's. ![:dead:](http://ruadventures.com/forum/Smileys/animated/smiley_resurrect_grave.gif)

My comment Funny how RS mentioned Whiskey lullaby but didn't put that song here instead of this for some reason. As much as I love goofy Brad Paisley lyrics, I never loved the melody of this one. It sounds very tiring at the end.

Again, I ranked it high because I am a child of '00s country, so this song has soooooo much nostalgia for me and I love everything about it...but there is absolutely no way it belonged in this list at all ![:dead:](http://ruadventures.com/forum/Smileys/animated/smiley_resurrect_grave.gif)

Also I agree it is really weird that RS praised "Whiskey Lullaby" and then included "Alcohol" instead ![:dead:](http://ruadventures.com/forum/Smileys/animated/smiley_resurrect_grave.gif) Although I'm not mad, because the last thing "Independence Day" needs is another showdown with "Whiskey Lullaby"!!!! ![:cold:](http://i.imgur.com/I0dmphF.gif)

My comment I may have overranked this, but this is a good earworm, especially the bass part.

Metal will always be my first love, and as such I'll always have a love for the shredding Brad Paisley is capable off. Why did they pick these two songs though?? There are obviously songs I liked less than them but I don't think there were songs that deserved to be on this list less. Especially with the lack of 90s stuff.

"The Race Is On" has such a unique melody in the verses, that causes this to stand out from the moment it begins. I can definitely see why it hooked George immediately in the pitch meeting!

RS comment My comment Not even the best song in Speak Now, and Speak Now is not even her best "country" album, but Mean is hear and it ended up in a better rank than at the beginning. For a song that is supposed to be a rebuttal of her singing, she doesn't sing this well, but I guess the bridge is kinda iconic with all those "and"s. ClevelandRox is the first person to lose #1. castleoblivion26 is the third-to-last person to lose #100.

Uh oh at my top 40 rank pushing "Mean" backwards by a position... Looks like I'm fixing to lose something even higher soon! ![:cold:](http://i.imgur.com/I0dmphF.gif) I have always been one of "Mean"'s biggest haters, so this placement is definitely brought to you by my increasing appreciation for Taylor in recent years, as well as the fact that it is from my lifetime. It may not be one of my favorites from this time period, but it is definitely still a sound that I enjoy more than some of the dinosaur tunes in this list. It holds up way better here than it does alongside its contemporaries, in my opinion.

RS comment My comment Funny how bboat11 didn't actually tank this song and yet it's still pushed out of the top 40. This song is carried by Hank's vocals a lot.

My comment And another song that is pushed down by the final two lists. In terms of songwriting John Prine is one of the most unique in the scene. I have always liked the line "How the hell can a person go to work in the morning/And come home in the evening and have nothing to say?", which sounds trivial but it really says much on how the characters end up being like that.

I suppose "Welcome to the Future" kind of falls in the same lane as "Alcohol" so I think they could've done away with one song and had "Whiskey Lullaby" in there instead.

I suppose "Welcome to the Future" kind of falls in the same lane as "Alcohol" so I think they could've done away with one song and had "Whiskey Lullaby" in there instead. I agree that "Alcohol" is a good example of Brad's signature style. But another way I view it is, while it was a huge hit, it was basically just a regular huge hit. There's absolutely nothing about its size of hit that warrants it being included in a best-of-all-time list. It is basically equivalent to choosing to put something like Martina's "Blessed" in this rankdown, or Toby Keith's "My List", or Phil Vassar's "Just Another Day In Paradise". They are all huge hits, but have absolutely nothing that warrants them being included in a rankdown like this over songs like "Amarillo By Morning" or "Love Without End, Amen", lmao. Why Brad got lucky enough to have arbitrary hits included is a real head scratcher to someone who followed those songs when they were current.

thank god "Mean" is out. That song is super overrated and Taylor's vocals are so painfully bad I cannot listen to it at all

I like alcohol. The Brad Paisley song is really good too!
Unfortunate to see Taylor Swift go out here since “Mean” has always been one of my favorites from her.

Both Brad Paisley's "Alcohol" and "Welcome to the Future" as well as Taylor's "Mean" were all questionable choices to include on this list and seem quite out of place amongst everything else. That's not to say I don't enjoy the songs, but I personally don't think they are deserving of being called one of the 100 GOAT country songs. They had already overstayed, so I'm glad that they left sooner rather than later.
Neko Case's "People Got a Lotta Nerve" was another one that left me scratching my head as to why it was included, so therefore I really couldn't justify ranking it any higher than just outside of my bottom 10.
My first introduction to the song "The Race Is On" actually came from Sawyer Brown as they released it as a single in late 1989. Much of my early introduction to country music in my youth came from CMT and this is a video I remember seeing quite a bit back then. It wasn't until much later on that I learned it was actually recorded in the 1960s by George Jones lol.
I'm still kicking myself for not yet diving into John Prine's work, but "Angel From Montgomery" is one song I've long been familiar with from him and have always loved.

Agree with the general consensus that Lee Ann Womack's cover of "Long Black Veil" is the superior rendition. She definitely brought out the dark lyricism well in her version, though I didn't mind the original. Lol @ both of Brad Paisley's songs going out back-to-back. I also concur with others that his inclusions were a bit... odd for the list. They aren't even 2 of his most iconic hits, though I do love "Future" in particular. I would've swapped them out with maybe "We Danced" and "Waitin' on a Woman" from his catalog, or "Whiskey Lullaby" as was highlighted in the write-up despite being passed over. Very happy to see "Mean" make the top half of this RD despite a noticeable tank effort on the part of some participants. It is a bit of an outlier on this list, but it's a great song imo. It came quite a bit further than I expected, thankfully.

RS comment
My comment Obviously the two main characters deserve mentions, but I think the chorus being Police not caring about turning people to good ("They only let him go so wrong/Out of kindness, I suppose") is quite deep. Also occasional horns to make the music more interesting. Alas, it was about to finished in the 20s before just made into top 40.
