RS comment My comment Also in Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Songs of All Time (2004) at #210. A lil catchy song. I honestly cannot believe bboat11 would rank this fairly high based on the vocals though.

My comment The homage to Lost Highway in the lyrics is a cool tidbit. The song itself is a good but safe heartland rock song. This is supposed to end up higher but in the end missing top 50.

My comment This is very pop (almost equivalent to Shania Twain level), is catchy but easy to burn out from. *also that Youtube thumbnail*

My comment I may have underranked this. This has a vivid image of a miner who is physically strong but mentally weak. Also, the snapping fingers and a clarinet-driven arrangement in 1955 is quite cool.

In my heart, I'm convinced Tennessee Ernie Ford is Cousin Ernie from I Love Lucy. He's also from Tennessee, also sang little country ditties and looks just like him.

OMG it is Cousin Ernie. ![:dead:](http://ruadventures.com/forum/Smileys/animated/smiley_resurrect_grave.gif) ![](https://i.imgur.com/2en0DRx.png) He sounded soooo different in this song to his voice/his singing on the show, I automatically assumed it wasn't!

Wow, there were a lot of classics that left in the last set of reveals. I was familiar with all but one of them prior to this rankdown as Gram Parsons “$1000 Wedding” was the lone discovery. I’ve only ever heard about Gram from his days of touring with Emmylou Harris in the early 70s and for whatever reason have never checked out his music. I wasn’t sure what to make of this particular song at first, but it’s one that piqued my interest enough that I ended up revisiting this one a handful of times. It certainly ended up being one of my favorite discoveries from this list of songs.
While I’ve never done a deep dive into Gary Stewart’s work, I am familiar with most of his biggest hits including “She's Actin' Single, I'm Drinkin' Doubles” which has always been one of my favorites from him. He has such a unique voice and while George Strait might be considered the King of Country, Gary is long remembered as the King of Honkytonk! One of my favorite songs by him is “An Empty Glass” which is just about one of the saddest country songs I’ve ever heard.
I honestly have no recollection of when I first heard “Bye Bye Love” from the Everly Brothers, but it has long been a favorite of mine ever since I was a kid. I was a bit surprised though to see this on the Rolling Stone list of GOAT country songs, but I also consider this to be one of the greatest songs of all time which I know they also included this on.
Great to see Juice Newton’s “Queen of Hearts” make it as far as it did as it’s always been a favorite of mine. I previously featured this same song in my 80's Ladies of Country rankdown from a couple of years back in which she made it to the top 15 there.

RS comment My comment Love Neko Case but not this song, mainly because of the limited range of melody. If (for example) Hold On, Hold On was here it would definitely have much higher ranks from me. Also surprised you guys like this song more than me (with respect to other songs in the rankdown), as it just barely made in top 50 with the help of bboat11 's list.

RS comment My comment Don't know how to feel towards the drums, and the fiddle sounds a bit too muffled for a supposed "mountain music" song. razorshark loses a top 5.

My comment This is a low-key Willie Nelson performance, but I love the great melody and beautiful lyrics. It only fell in the 40s in the last three submission.

My comment This version sounds too joyful and not mysterious enough. I like Lee Ann Womack's haunting version better as I think it fits the lyrics better.

![:dead:](http://ruadventures.com/forum/Smileys/animated/smiley_resurrect_grave.gif) "People Got A Lotta Nerve" is from 2009?!?!? I mean, I guess the production is obviously not as dated as all the old classics on this list, but I still figured I would have heard of it or her if it was THAT new!!! I figured she could be a one-hit wonder from the '80s or something ![:dead:](http://ruadventures.com/forum/Smileys/animated/smiley_resurrect_grave.gif) The production and instrumentation really isn't THAT far off from the '80s stuff, if it had been recently enhanced or something. Almost all of Alabama's big hits have aged horribly for me (they definitely overdo the Southern Pride to a point that would not be acceptable in modern times ((i.e. glorifying the Confederacy)), and on top of it their production has all aged like milk as well), to where I almost never seek them out, but "Mountain Music" holds its own decently well in a list like this! Oh look, "Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain" gets to make the top half of a rankdown for once! I think it's been last place in every other rankdown it's ever been in 😂

Neko Case is in a weird zone where the primarily label genre for her is alt-country but not many country-related media will actually cover her, and her songs are not played on mainstream country radio anyway.

I looooove the lyricism of "Long Black Veil", as well as the story that it tells! Such a beautifully written song ![](http://i.imgur.com/2smy76v.gif) Although I agree that Lee Ann Womack's recent cover hits the emotions right on the head. I was so disappointed with how y'all treated it in her album series ![:(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/sad.png) "Welcome To The Future" is a MAJOR wtf-worthy outlier on this list!!!! Like, WTF?!?! This is here while songs like "Forever And Ever Amen," "Amarillo By Morning", "Maybe It Was Memphis", "Born To Fly", "I Will Always Love You", "Whoever's In New England", etc. got left off?!?! That being said, I love this song, and definitely had to rank it high because it fits more with my preferences as a country fan than old dusty yodel numbers by people whose voices sound like a reed of grass being buzzed directly into your ear ![:giggle:](//storage.proboards.com/1258812/images/aSdDjxeFubxIlbMzpKXc.gif) I do think where this song excels is a really fascinating and innovative instrumental arrangement, utilizing synthesizers and old arcade game sounds to evoke feelings of nostalgia underneath a modern arrangement.

RS comment My comment I get why this could be tanked because the synths can be cheesy (even though it's a reference to the Pac-Man line) and Brad Paisley has too many anthemic songs, but I really like the message of future being unpredictable and the underlying optimism. I also find the synths cute and I am a sucker of his anthemic sound most of the time. The writing angle in verses 2 and 3 are wroth mentioning too. At least I am not the highest ranker ![](http://yoursmiles.org/ssmile/fun/s0244.gif) It swung between above and below 50 and in the end landed on top 50.
