My comment The instrumentals sound a bit more ragged than usual, but this is still great.

My comment Definitely love their vocal chemistry, and the circular structure of the lyrics is well-used. Being a lower SD song, it hovers around 40 before reaching the highest position in the rankdown in the end.

My comment The production by MCC is so recognizable. Love Lucinda's ragged vocal performance in this to give the plain message more raw power. This is the first song out from the second tie of the rankdown, and again it reached its highest position in the rankdown in the end.

My comment The projection of emotion to environment is fine. Still don't know why it earned a place in the original RS list (unless they want to write about Liz Rose but they used Taylor Swift's quota already?). That homage towards a song that was eliminated yesterday though. And of course I was bummed this beat Passionate Kisses.

My comment I often think this song is elevated by its feat rather than the song itself, as I found the quality similar to a typical George Strait song. Not bad but ultimately leave a lot to be desired.

A classic!
My favorite version for obvious reasons:

My comment That's some twangy steel guitar there, but I feel like I have heard this melody too much before. It stabilized at 30s in pretty much the whole run, which is quite impressive.

My comment The excellent lyrics transcend gender. Absolutely love the metaphor used, particularly "tore up her nest". Hilariously accurate to describe that kind of stuff. This had two troughs which are close to top 50 but made a comeback to top 40.

My comment This is a great bar song that is most suitable for singing along drunk. Honestly surprised this ended up this high. But 5 top 10 ranks for this song sounds more reasonable than one may think.

Dwight Yoakum is not usually my cup of tea, but "Guitars, Cadillacs" is an iconic jam that sounds like '90s country and therefore still did pretty well on my list here! "Passionate Kisses" hurts a bit, but I'm glad I at least boosted it into the top 40! That melody is sooooooo strong, and Lucinda's voice pierced directly to my core and made me feel every word of this song. I loved the slightly rough edge that she brought to the song! It came alive with an electric energy that I have never really gotten from MCC's version. Definitely have a whole new appreciation for this song! "Songs About Rain" made literally ZERO sense in this list. I said yesterday that Brad Paisley's "Alcohol" made no sense because it was just a regular huge hit, but "Songs About Rain" doesn't even have that going for it! It's not even in Gary Allan's top 10 most influential songs. If including "Alcohol" is equivalent to randomly including Martina's "Blessed" in this rankdown, including "Songs About Rain" would be about equivalent to randomly including Martina's "God's Will" in this rankdown ![:dead:](http://ruadventures.com/forum/Smileys/animated/smiley_resurrect_grave.gif)

RS comment My comment Glad Rolling Stone did not pick the other very famous song (Big Iron) from this album. The story is kinda predictable but the storytelling is quite good. razorshark loses top rank. It was about to finish in top 20 too. Interesting, castleoblivion26 ‘s bottom 10 is cleared by this reveal. One man's treasure is another man's trash I guess.

No way, Passionate Kisses is leaving now? As recordyear pointed out, Lucinda's ragged vocal sounded very powerful in this song, and the chorus melody is really strong!

I did not like "El Paso" at all. I listened to it multiple times but could not get into it so I'm glad it is finally out.
"Songs About Rain" is a great song and I'm happy it made it this high.
I do think that I'm gonna get a lot of flack for my lowest remaining song, which is my #80. That song is one that I respect but don't particularly care for.

I actually think I'd say it would be more like including "Long Black Train" or "Ol' Red," though it's not *quite* on the level of those. As far as Gary Allan's catalog goes though, "Songs About Rain" has a lower peak than its hit status might otherwise suggest. It's certified Gold, unlike several of his #1 hits, and it's held up as one of his more remembered hits. I still don't think it should've been included, but it didn't strike me nearly as wtf-worthy as "Alcohol" for Brad Paisley, considering he has both so much more critically acclaimed songs and bigger hits.
