"Coat of Many Colors" was going to be my other guess as to which one would miss the top 5. Looking forward to see how this one does again in Dolly's rankdown ;)

25. Carrie Underwood - Before He Cheats (2006) Written by: Josh Kear and Chris Tompkins RS Rank: 56
I meant to comment after this reveal but I lowkey thought this song had a chance at winning the whole thing!! I am so surprised that is was only #25. There are not enough Carrie stans to join this rankdown.

4/5 of the songs I wanted to end up in the lower half of the top 10 did, so not bad!
Sad to see "Coat of Many Colors" be the outlier there though. It's definitely a better song than anything Patsy ever did. :'(

The 'controversial' gay line has always come off as a bit hokey for me in FYA, which is why it always amused me that it got propped up as this big country LGBT anthem. To be fair, a gay and a lesbian songwriter helped wrote that song. It's possible that they had the idea of that line.

It would be pretty sweet if we let the other Parton song win maybe

Sad to see "Coat of Many Colors" be the outlier there though. It's definitely a better song than anything Patsy ever did. Lol, why are you always s**tting all over Patsy?! Never cared for her style. Her and Johnny Cash are in the same boat for me as far as being overrated vocalists. All of Patsy's songs sound identical to one another, and it's not my cup of tea. She's boring. Sad she died early and young and all that, but I wonder if she would've been half as iconic if she'd lived a full life. And, if she had, I probably would've liked her later material as she evolved with the times. The majority of country music pre-1970s doesn't really do much for me. The 'controversial' gay line has always come off as a bit hokey for me in FYA, which is why it always amused me that it got propped up as this big country LGBT anthem. To be fair, a gay and a lesbian songwriter helped wrote that song. It's possible that they had the idea of that line. I'm not sure what that has to do with my comment, lol. The point is that quite a few people frothed at the mouth over "Follow Your Arrow" being some token LGBT song, but in reality the only line that knocks on it is just a flippant "kiss boys, or kiss girls, if you want, idc" line in the chorus. It's a good song, but it became very overrated because of the controversy of that line being 'scandalous' for country radio, while also being propped up like it was some iconic gay anthem simultaneously. I think it's a well-written 'be who you want' type of song, but it's never struck me as anything particularly iconic or special, and certainly not something that I think fits into a list like this. I actually ranked it about 20 positions lower here for that reason.

RS comment My comment Quite like the story itself. The clothes made of old cloth and the related Bible story quote show the blend of humanity and religion in country music nicely. This is not a main top 10 contender, however. zack97 may thank bboat11 for boosting this song to the highest place ever in the rankdown, so his loss of #1 is less pitiful.

RS comment My comment Love every second of Patsy's vocals here. Look at the trajectory graph! It was mostly in the top 2 of the rankdown, only until the last two lists came and tank this song to just inside top 5 Condolences to tim for losing a #1 here.

Also that trajectory graph for "Crazy" is making me so intrigued.... Usually when a well-loved song holds steady at #2 like that, it's because there is an even more well-loved song holding steady at #1 ahead of it... Could we possibly have us a runaway #1 contender despite how iconic every song remaining is?!?!!

Love every second of Patsy's vocals here.. Same. It's crazy to think that anyone could listen to this and say that Patsy is an underrated vocalist. To each their own ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

“Crazy” is my Nana’s all-time favorite song and I’ve heard it a lot throughout the years! It really is a great song - even though it is outside of what I typically enjoy.

I still can't believe that "Goodbye Earl" got this far, but I'll guess it bows out before the top 2. Speaking of, "Jolene" better be able to take a victory lap over "Independence Day".

"The Night The Lights Went Out In Georgia" would've made my top 50 probably. "Fancy" is a little too overproduced for me

The fact that the dreary, sleepy, musical wallpaper that is "Crazy" almost beat out the flashy, dynamic, attitude-driven, lyrical masterpiece that is "Fancy".... wow. I'm glad that I wasn't alone in tanking it.

My nana's favorite song was "Delta Dawn" and now I'm realizing that's yet another glaring omission from this list. But thank goodness they got all them damn yodeling numbers in there. 🙄🤐

RS comment My comment This has a very strong dynamic and is very enjoyable to listen to. Also while the lyrics are not hers, Reba did choose more interesting subject matter to talk about throughout her career. This is a consistent top 5 contender in the latter half of submission. Condolences to someguy for losing #1.
