My comment The most memorable part of this song to me is the steel guitar crescendo after the line "And Lord knows we had a good thing going here". This is yet another song that flip-flopped between 50s and 60s and in the end just outside top 60.

George Jones is another iconic artist on Pulse that I think is vastly underappreciated. I'd be a shame if "He Stopped Loving Her Today" doesn't make it into the top 5.

"The Grand Tour" is the ultimate heartbreak song. That description from Rolling Stone did a pretty great job of explaining why, imo. There is just something about George's vocal that fills the empty spaces that he's describing with the ghosts and demons that are haunting our narrator.

One of the songs featured in a previous rankdown will be eliminated in the next reveal. Hmmm. Maybe "Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain"? Or maybe "Friends In Low Places", although I really feel like that one will be at least top half. What is the rankdown that "Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain" was featured?

It was also in Castle's Favorite Male Artists! Edit: And of course Shania's version a couple weeks ago in her Extras rd.

I wanted to like "You Don't Know Me" more so I could rank it higher since I do really enjoy "What'd I Say" and other stuff I've heard from him (granted not a ton). But in terms of country music it's not a style that I tend to gravitate towards.
I'm not sure what'll get eliminated before the top half maybe except for the Brad Paisley songs since I feel like they're both on borrowed time - "Welcome to the Future" is so good though, I would love to see it sneak into the top half.

RS comment My comment This is an interesting answer song that again has that universality in it. However when I think about it the answer is a bit too simple and lack of further argument. I feel I may have overranked this. This song is mostly in top half in the first half of submission, but after the consecutive tanking by razorshark and HeyHeyHey it cannot recover.

I had prior exposure to "It Wasn't God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels" thanks to it being the opening track of Terri Clark's covers album, and she does a GREAT job with it! Definitely one of the highlights to me, as boring as covers albums usually are. So that's probably a big reason why it nearly made my top 40!

My comment I like how the chorus is just the imagination from the protagonist. Now who's gonna do this once in a while? *raises hands*

My comment The explanation to spelling in the lyrics is okay, but the spelling itself is still a jarring listening experience. The off-beats in second chorus made it worse. I would be glad if it was bottom 10 in the rankdown tbh. It was about to finish in the 70s too, but the last four lists brought this up in the 50s.

She sounded in real pain here. Like she was hiding behind a smile. That saved whatever production issues this song may have for me.
Edit: Talking about D-I-V-O-R-C-E

My comment This has an interesting lyric about the best day becoming the worst day. I can see how this would be tanked if it is judged musically only though.

My comment This got an iconic theme and instantly recognizable melody. For a very old record it did its job perfectly.

My comment This has a killer chorus. Also subtly referenced by Jon Pardi's Heartache Medication.
