#44: "Deep Forest" - Deep Forest
Aero's Top 10 rank boosts Deep Forest over Hooky to win the tie. Congrats to Lannister on another PPPPP! This band is notable for being the first French artist to win a Grammy when the album Boheme won in 1995. Since then, the only other French artist to win one has been Daft Punk. This title track & second single from their debut album peaked at #20 in the UK & #4 on the US Dance Charts. The album is out of print due to copyright disputes in regards to sampling of indigenous peoples. But Spotify must've heard my pleas and finally added this album within the last few weeks. A percentage of profits goes to the Pygmy Fund, which helps the natives of central Africa cope with environmental threats, although ironically, not to the groups from which the vocals were sampled.

#43: "Dream" - Forest For The Trees
Continuing the forest theme... The founder of this band (Carl Stephenson), co-wrote & co-produced Beck's "Loser". He had only had one LP & one EP - neither of which are on Spotify. But then some 20 years later he finally released a follow-up album in 2016. While "Dream"'s parent album isn't on Spotify, it has only recently been made available there from a compilation album. It was an Alternative hit back in '97 as well as reaching #72 on the Hot 100. This time Power gets yet another PPPPP! - Congrats, but don't get greedy.

EXTRA: "Dreamtime" - Heart ThrobsPete DeFreitas' (Echo & Bunnymen) sisters Rose and Rachel were the driving force of this band from Reading, England. They recorded three albums, but none of them are on Spotify. Also missing are these charting singles: Bang, Too Many Shadows, and She's In A Trance.

#49: "Well Well Well" - Duffy
Duffy was a rising star in 2008 selling 9 million copies of her debut album and being nominated for a BNA Grammy (losing to Adele). But her follow-up album (Endlessly) defines sophomore slump w/ sales less than 10% of the debut. Only one single & one music video were released from that album & it's the song that lands right here.
while I found this song rather annoying, it didn't stop me from singing the chorus for at least two weeks....

#49. Duffy - Well Well Well I enjoyed this Girly pop thing way more than is healthy for me to ,but it is catchy. #47: "Hole In My Heart (All The Way To China)" - Cyndi LauperI always liked Cindy's more rock related music choices. I didn't recall this song, but it was definitely a welcome to my mp3 80's archives. #46: "Breakdance" - Irene CaraYou all ruined this. This is her most Hi-NRG ever. Call me back when you listen to the extended version. EXTRAS:
"The Calling" - Ken HeavenI have praised this many times before. Hi-NRG at it's best. he only released one original recording in which he does do the falsetto vocals beautifully. He also released a cover of Sylvester's "You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real). It makes sense he had the vocals for it. it came out in late 80's, but it isn't the fast NRG style I like. It's more housey than anything else. "Motortown" - Kane GangThis gave me some late 80's upbeat Sophistipop vibes. Breathe, Breakfast Club, Go West. Another keeper. #45: "Pineapple Face" - RevengeI recall liking this one a lot more on another rankdown. Still a decent song that tries a little too hard to sound like New Order. That album cover was posted as Doc Indie Party Rock bait. I like it better than the actual song. Most of today's reveals were Percussion challenged, so it's nice to see a lot of my bottom 10's drop out early for a change.EXTRA:We should have rankd the EXTRAS instead. "Dreamtime" - Heart ThrobsI've heard this before. Somewhere, sometime, but I think I really got that Alternative Rock vibe this time around. That little synth hook in the background is quite hypnotic.

I just ran across another fun 80's tune not on Spotify. Second Nature, the third Top 40 hit (barely, I think it went to #39) from Dan Hartman following I Can Dream About You and We are the Young. Both of those are on Spotify, but not this one. From 1984. RIP Dan, died in 1994 at age 43 from AIDS complications

#39: "Heaven Give Me Words" - Propaganda
This German band hit it out of the park both artistically and commerically w/ their 1985 A Secret Wish, and followed it up w/ a remix album. But contract disputes forced the band to splinter & when it came time to finally record a follow up five years later, there was only one of the original members left. With help from T4F producer Chris Hughes, Pink Floyd's David Gilmour, songwriting by Howard Jones & ex-Simple Minds' drummer & bassist, they still couldn't recreate the magic they had on their debut.
Checkout these other singles from the album ("Only One Word", "Your Wildlife", and "Wound In My Heart" which went to #1 in Argentina)

Heaven Give Me Words and especially Wound in My Heart were heavily played in the FM radio I listened back in the late 80s/early 90s in Argentina.

#37: "Sweet Freedom" - Michael McDonald
This was Michael's second and final Top 10 solo hit on the Hot100 (he had two others while he was with Doobie Brothers and one more dueting w/ Patti LaBelle). From yet another movie soundtrack that WAS missing from Spotify but which has been added over the past few months. In this case it's Running Scared from 1986. Keep in mind the album version is nearly 8 minutes longer (not the edited version you remember from the radio).

Takes on various songs in this rankdown so far:
I Want to Hear It from Your Lips: Sorry, I don't like Eric Carmen. The only song I can stand of his is Hungry Eyes and honestly, I'll take almost anything else from the soundtrack. Even Overload.
Well Well Well: That version on your video playlist did this one no favors (it was more chopped and screwed than the Tipsy song on White Chicks). Found one with just the lyrics that worked way better. It is kind of catchy in the chorus, but the lyrics tended to repeat themselves a bit much.
Welcome to Paradise: The soundbites use was nicely done, but I wasn't sure this was quite a song in the end.
Hole in My Heart: I remember not liking Vibes when I saw it. The comedy felt forced and I felt like they wasted Peter Falk. When the pan flutes are the best part of the song, you got some problems.
Dream: This one surprised me. The song itself was pretty solid and the rapping I felt was kind of solid.
You Got Me Floatin': One of two songs that lured me into this rankdown. Will reveal the other one at the end of this. The guitars were rock solid, but I've heard better rapping/flow from PM Dawn.
Sweet Freedom: The video reminded me of more innocent times. Loved how the lead singer gets held up and then realizes it's just Billy Crystal. Good times. Song itself isn't too bad and I think I liked the film this came from?
Come As You Are: This was one of the more pleasant surprises to me here. Everything just came together for me.
The other song that brought me here? Electric Avenue (it was for a challenge on Pulse Survivor about finding melancholy sad songs for a playlist). Imagine the shock when I found zero Eddy Grant available.

#33: "Downtown" - One 2 Many
Dubbed the "least remembered one-hit wonder ever" by allmusic.com, this Norwegian band released only one album (Mirror) in 1988. This song climbed all the way to #1 in Norway that autumn & crossed the Atlantic in the spring of '89 to hit the Top 40 in the US (while also charting on US AC & US Dance as well). Three subsequent singles were released, but all failed to chart anywhere as the band had already broken up. There is no trace of this band on Spotify.

Lost three top 10's this round. WTF?
#35: "Change Your Mind" - Gary Numan & Bill Sharpe talk about getting separated for the pack. I was always gonna slot this one super high. I'm not even sure if I had heard it before, but it is definitely up my 80's New wave alley. Gary nails the vocals for a song like this. The female backround sound very Human League as well. the best aspect has to be that groovy synth solo.
#34: "Make Love, F*ck War" - Public Enemy w/ Moby idk? I have no use for this type of music. I was afraid this would go top 10. Glad I was proven wrong.
#33: "Downtown" - One 2 Many This was so melodic. Its flows on a magic 80's carpet ride. Funny enough I found some of those piano progressions in the solo to remind me of Bruce Hornsby vibes which I never cared for. Go figure.
#32: "Dance With Me" - Lords Of The New Church I always dug this song. Such an underrated goth wave song. They sound like a lot of Spanish Rock jams.
not even out of the 30s and we are dropping 80's songs all over the place.
#31: "Liar, Liar" - Debbie Harry The best aspect of that movie was this song.

#30: "Computer Game" - Yellow Magic Orchestra
YMO was founded by electronic music pioneer Ryuichi Sakamoto (& others) in Tokyo in 1978. This song reached the #17 in the UK & #60 in the US, while also making the R&B and Dance charts. Strangely this song did not chart in Japan, but their eight charting singles in Japan never charted anywhere else. The song is considered highly influential and has been sampled by Afrika Bambaataa, De La Soul, Jennifer Lopez & Mariah Carey. While Spotify has the 1979 debut album which features two versions of this song (said to be themes to video games "Circus" & "Space Invaders"), the single version that was the only version I had heard before is not available.

#28: "Like Humans Do" - David Byrne
You noticed that the last song didn't have any Top 10s, so Aero & Peace's #10 rankings here are sufficient to win the tie & consequently gives Lannister third PPPPP so far. I realize now that I ranked this one too low.
This song is from David's 2001 album Look Into The Eyeball, which thankfully has only very recently been made available on Spotify (along with the rest of his solo discography).

#27: "Doubleplusgood" - Eurythmics
Well look at that, Lannister scores back-to-back PPPPPs! (a feat that won't be repeated by anyone else in this rankdown). And he does so with the most appropriately titled song imaginable! Sadly, the amazing 1984 Soundtrack is nowhere to be found on Spotify. You can find live versions, but for the studio versions? nope! I encourage everyone to search out this soundtrack & give it a listen as it has mood for days weeks months, perfect for a night drive down a lonely highway.
