I think it's fair to be openly salty here and say it's pretty funny that despite these numbers, Billboard will still refuse to say it's the most popular song of the week. Spotify is one streaming service of many, and then streaming is one metric of 3. I think it's fair to openly say that Spotify alone should not dictate the Hot 100. Well Good 4 U is #1 on Spotify, Apple Music, and Amazon Music, as well as #3 on iTunes and exploding on radio. I think it's safe to say that Good 4 U is the most popular song of the week, and you can't say anything to change that.

Olivia pulling bigger numbers than Drake, never thought I'd see that. I mean, didn't drivers license already break Drake's record for most daily US Spotify streams for a song early this year? I was always confident her album would do really well on Spotify (not this well, obviously, as good 4 u kinda came outta nowhere much like drivers license and SOUR has remained really stable) but I'm always here for streaming records being broken because that's one sure way to further confirm that it's growing. After her breaking all these Spotify records, I'm now hoping she somehow surpasses thank u, next's streaming record (307M US streams). It'll be the first time since Scorpion's first two weeks with 2 consecutive weeks of the #1 album on the Billboard 200 pulling over 300M US streams. Having 2 albums manage that back to back will be great to see. It'll also signal to the industry that streaming is back being healthy so more major mainstream acts can start releasing their albums. Like I said earlier, I can totally see SOUR having multiple 100M+ US stream weeks. Right now only 3 female albums have more than 1 week with over 100M+ US streams and all 3 only have 2 weeks with that much streams (thank u next, Lover and folklore). For reference: pulsemusic.proboards.com/thread/197359/biggest-streaming-weeks-billboard-200

If we go buy Rolling Stones' charts which just takes into account sales and streaming and doesn't have the weird weighing Billboard does, good 4 u is beating Butter. So yeah, we can definitively say it is the most popular song this week

I'm all for new artists shaking things up. One sign of health, in any industry, are new names coming in and having impact. Right now, I don't think there are up to 10 names one can consider true industry heavyweights who you're 100% sure can cause damage on the charts with their releases and that's terrible. Newer acts should 100% be the ones most of the damage. People like Taylor Swift, Drake, Bruno Mars, etc are icons already. They have the stats and the accolades to back that up. They've written their names in the record books and nothing can ever take that away. Them scoring more #1 albums/#1 singles will only add to their already bosterous careers. They have nothing left to prove and the music industry really can't keep waiting for only those few names to drop and have major impact because when they go silent, a huge gap emerges and it should never be like that.
The next female artist I'm really looking forward to making a huge splash with their album is Doja Cat. That lady is so talented. I hope her next single and her album do really well. It'd be really nice to see the GP come out and show her album support when it drops. We need more female mainstream giants. Taylor Swift/Ariana Grande can only do so much for so long (with the other few major mainstream female acts going 5+ years without releasing albums).

You know as well as I do that wasn't my argument, and you also know that it dominated every platform equally as hard. The broken Spotify record is only a microcosm of something that is blatantly obvious to everyone, including people who want to see Butter go #1 this week. I'm not gonna play pretend just because Billboard needs clicks from BTS fans and will feign ignorance about their broken system to make sure it can happen over and over again.

This single rollout for SOUR is gonna be interesting, will they end up pushing enough for you? Will they go for one of the other songs on the album such as favorite crime, brutal or traitor? Only time will tell.

The Rolling Stones chart doesnβt take into consideration radio, and thatβs a big problem in my opinion. You mean the only reason Blinding Lights is still on the Hot 100 And despite that, if it weren't for the recurrent rule, it would still be in the top 40 (at least according to the Rolling Stones chart).

That users point was that Good 4 U is breaking records with streaming, but won't get the #1 because of the same few people buying 10 copies of a song to manipulate the chart. Unless you think a song that is currently #14 on Spotify and #57 on Apple Music should be #1, which in that case, you're delusional.

I didn't say "Butter" (or anything else) deserved to be #1. I replied to a specific post about that specific information. You are continually bringing in information that was not included in the post to which I responded. So what did you do then? Draw unreasonable conclusions about my post that no normal person would have come to? If your honest reaction to that post was "Wow I can't believe he's saying Spotify should dictate 100% of the charts" then that's on you, not me. But just for you I'll make my stance clear, no I don't think Spotify should dictate 100% of the charts. Does that make it clear to you? I hope this helps.

SOUR [Olivia Rodrigo] (pop): brutal, drivers license, deja vu, good 4 u, enough for you, hope ur ok (7/10) - B+ Worst: jealousy jealousy
Really hope brutal is the next single, though I have warmed up to favorite crime so I wouldn't mind that as the fourth single either.

Last week good 4 u had 34.5 million on-demand streams according to HDD. 17.9 million of those came from Spotify, that's 52%.
This week SOUR has 162.3 million streams from Spotify, if that represents 52% of her total on-demand streams then she accumulated around 312 million. Even if Spotify represented a larger portion of her streams, you also have to factor in YouTube.
I think over 300 million total streams is a real possibility, we'll have a better picture when HDD releases their streaming songs chart later today.

So it's a little over 3x for Olivia. NOT the 4x her stans were claiming.

I just want her Billboard 200 article to highlight her breaking some records. I love records being broken.

You mean the only reason Blinding Lights is still on the Hot 100 And despite that, if it weren't for the recurrent rule, it would still be in the top 40 (at least according to the Rolling Stones chart). Not to mention, BL is still in the Top 40 in both the digital sales and streaming charts, and was just in the Top 25 of both metrics just a few weeks ago. A lot of the songs above BL were one week wonders.

No need to keep beating on him. I think the data is pretty obvious about which song this week has more widespread and general appeal.

Itβs insane how dominant good 4 u has been this week. Whether or not Billboard publishes an accurate chart next week, itβs very rare a song feels as big as this one does right now.

Imagine...a song breaks the all-time Spotify record, and it finishes at #2. That's not fair, and I don't care what BTS stans have to say, they can buy 1 million copies of Butter (btw, great name π), but G4U is the biggest song of the week, and you know it. Just like WAP was last year, in August and September.
