I'm starting to feel that this will be the longest thread ... Yeah, of course this thread is going to be super messy.

What is organic? Doesn’t Butter almost have 100k sales just outside of the website with every website that can be used now to buy music?
Is that mass buying too?

To all you arguing about BTS, I have one thing to say to y’all and in the famous words of Polo G, shut the fuck, I mean please don’t talk.

I don't particularly mind about the mass buying thing, since it is a legit strategy. Just kinda wish that Billboard would stop overvaluing sales since it's long apparent that it have become the least relevant metrics out of the three. It just feels somewhat wrong for 300k sales, which in best case scenario is 300k different people buying the song, to worth more than tens of millions of radio audience and streaming

I already mentioned the airplay-only singles thing in the '90s, but keep in mind that soon after that ended we had to deal with multiple songs that were huge on TRL around 1999-2001 not even charting due to Napster piracy. Plus, digital sales weren't counted until 2005, meaning the charts of the early-mid 2000s just looked like the Radio Songs chart with the occasional American Idol winner's single topping the charts thanks to physical sales. And now we're dealing with songs mainly topping the charts because of "massive" sales when millions more people have long ago turned to streaming and radio as their primary music consumption methods. Something's gotta give, Billboard.

I mean it would be been almost impossible to incorporate data from piracy (Napster) without the US government & Metallica knocking on their doors so I'll side with Billboard on that decision lol

So even if they were literally untrackable by Billboard's methodology, it's unfair that because they were not being sold as physical singles or promoted to radio, they didn't chart.

How is this different than labels and streaming sites placing a song at the top of nearly every editorial playlist around the world and earning streams that way? Or radio deals? Columbia records sent a whole bus system across the country for BTS and while I saw someone say that radio will slow down, will it though? Or labels partnering TikTok influencers to blow up a song?
Seriously, everything is strategy. What is even real anymore?

That hate they are getting on twitter, being called dog eaters, ch*nks, chinese bottoms, coronovirus, etc by Olivia stans and all those other losers who are token stanning her for no reason at all is getting worse and worse. And then they hide behind Olivia being poc when she is completely white passing and no GP knows she is like 10% filo. I didn't want to comment on anything posted by you ever again and I'm not gonna bother disproving the whole "good 4 u is only strong in one metric" bs, everyone else has already done that, or the fact that selling outstadiums has nothing to do with the charts (although who's to say that Olivia won't sell out when concerts start). But how fucking dare you. How fucking dare you try and pretend to be against xenophobia and racism against Asians and then deny someone's race. How fucking dare you try and make a point by how chart success in some way fights against anti-Asian sentiments. And how dare you also try and paint Olivia's stans as being collectively racist when ARMY stans (who are bigger and louder) have been attacking her and making racist comments as well. You can deny it all you want, but if you're allowed to generalize Olivia stans as being racist, why can't I do the same with ARMY? As an Asian, this is fucking disrespectful, crude and worst of all, antithetical. You don't make you or ARMY stans look good by doing this shit. You only make yourselves and the movement worse by dragging it and trying to relate it to chart games. You embarrass everyone involved. You wanna call out Pulse for being racist? How bout you first apologize to the many Asian members on Pulse I hope that $100K y'all spent that could've been donate towards Pro-Asian orgs and charities was worth all this nonsense

^^Although seven of those apparently above Blinding Lights. With eight of J Cole songs and Seeing Green dropping below it and only drivers license surpassing it, that's the net result.

Yeah I’m going back on hiatus from this forum until Butter goes recurrent. I can’t. I say that as someone who actually likes the song but the Stan twittering of Pulse is just gross.
Who is moderating this place?

And another thing, there’s no such thing as not being POC enough regardless of what percentage Olivia is. Wtf???
I’m not an army but many friends are and that person doesn’t speak for a whole fandom. It’s offensive, childish and stupid. This is so stupid over pointless charts.
I’m personally looking forward to having 2 Asian artists leading the charts this week in very different strategic ways. The rest of the BS going on with this is awful for any progress.

If it was, it wouldn't be this rare for a song to do 20M in one week in the US.

People like what they like and engage in a way that makes sense to them. I think G4U is a good song btw. I also like Butter. I’m just all about letting people love what they love how they want to love it.

Oh no it's fine if you like it, all power to you, although YouTube is a bit different. Any music video with big streams nowadays is more centralized than before. That's why music in bigger international circuits like k-pop, reggaeton, even Japanese acts get decent views, they have a built in audience ready. I will say that as someone who's living under the same roof as an ARMY stan, Butter has already been overplayed for me lmao (not that I don't overplay k-pop songs either but I don't use the TV for streaming).

Enough is enough, the way the Olivia stans are acting is unacceptable. Olivia already reached #1.

To mess this thread up EVEN MORE lol, I'd argue that BTS were at their heights of popularity around Map of the Soul: 7, that album has their biggest opening on US album chart. Their English hits are just more radio and streaming friendly for the GP globally (thus getting good playlisting and radio deals), but their overall popularity hasn't grown that much if at all.

If that was true they would not gain at least million new followers on youtube, twitter, instagram, tiktok, spotify every month. If that was true they would not have more daily streams with just one song that with their album Be. This month will probably end up their biggest streaming month ever. I think their next album will be even bigger than MOTS7. Be wasn't that big because it was really expensive and only one version. And I think they didn't really aimed big with that album. It has this whole indie vibe more than pop vibe. More intimate. And just for fans. And before someone will say I'm arguing like on stan twitter(because clearly I can't say anything here) i'm not attacking anyone.
