Thought long and hard about this, but I've decided not to follow the current Hot 100 closely or support Billboard/visit their website until further notice. I've been on the fence about whether I should keep following this chart week-to-week ever since around mid-2020 with all the totally random and often manipulated #1 hits, but today's debacle with TOTC has sealed it. It's not worth it for me to devote time to a chart company that not only won't fix obvious issues with both their website and their chart formulae, but also will force sites that can do their same job better to shut down. I get that Billboard is a business, and under copyright law they have the right to call out non-profit entities using their information without explicit permission. But in turn, they are responsible for maintaining their own functional website that can serve as a valuable resource for fans, the industry, and ardent chart-watchers alike, which they have failed to do. Instead, they've chosen to paywall most of their charts not named the Hot 100 or Billboard 200 and undo the hard work of those synthesizing data they've made public for the convenience of other chart-watchers. In lieu of following the Hot 100, I will be using the Rolling Stone Top 100 songs and a chart called the V30, which bases its formula on Rolling Stone song units, Kworb radio estimates, and a "3-week rule" that allows for a more consistent chart. (If you're not familiar, you can check out the latest edition here.) I will also be following Billboard's other charts casually, but only on third-party websites and YouTube rankdown videos. Otherwise, I will never be visiting Billboard's website or thinking about their manipulated joke of a main chart (outside of year-end/GOAT content that can be found beyond their website) until the company can prove my satisfaction. They have not earned my time or money with their actions today. P.S. I'll still be around on Pulse, but you can expect me to post less often in Chart Discussion.

I wouldnβt give Billboard any sort of money, the day they charge to see the Hot 100 is the day I stop chart watching. I meant to refer to visiting their website. Obviously, I'm not a subscriber, and if I were I would've cancelled my subscription today.

I remember the days simon used to be the big predictions page that everyone looked at. And fans would eat him alive for getting certain songs wrong, even though he just couldn't get billboard's formula right. TOTC was incredibly accurate everytime, so in a way i guess this can allow fans to anticipate charts a little more and be surprised when billboard's chart is posted? Hoping for a return for TOTC though!

Billboard only exists to make money, which is used partly to employee workers. Billboard is not a government agency or a not-for-profit. They have every right to protect what is legally theirs.
The H100 is interesting, but it's never been the 'definitive' source of popularity - the RSO/Casablanca scandals in the 70s, during the 80s there were GOLD genre singles 'Juicy Fruit,' 'Swingin'' that missed the Top 40, excluding airplay-only until 1998, switching from a pop radio only/all sales to an all-genre radio (with nearly no sales) until iTunes, adjusting formulas, etc.
No predictions - no worries. It'll make the actual reveals far more interesting - like the 'old' days.

You can always go to acharts that's where I go to know what songs drop out or just wait for it to come out on Youtube if you want to know what's charting without visiting Billboard.

Imagine trying to shut up a group of people who are clearly fans of your work and only predict what will happen next on your charts. Tell me why we havenβt migrated to Rolling Stone yet.. Rolling Stone top 100 = Billboard Streaming songs so nope imo. Anyway, in my case I don't care about the Hot 100 weekly charts because they are a mess (only YE and all-time I care a bit) I follow the radio charts more like top 40, adult pop, alternative, rhythmic, latin, etc..

Unless any of us actually pay for a Billboard subscription or are in the industry or otherwise closely involved in it, Billboard owes us NOTHING.
And conversely, we don't owe them anything either; certainly not our patronage, so if you wish to go follow the RS charts from now on....God speed.

To be honest, the only reason why I follow the Billboard chart is because Blinding Lights is nearing a record. If/when BL falls off, I will probably lose interest in chart following, unless another meaningful record becomes within striking distance.
That being said, the Rolling Stone chart does not take radio into consideration, and that is a huge problem. Radio is the metric that has been around the longest, and in my opinion, is still the most reliable metric. They need to at least incorporate radio, even if it is a very small percentage, into their chart formula.

Except BTS EDIT: What Limited Edition said BTS could drop 5 remixes with their new song and all sorts of fraudulent methods to go with it but it still would not compare. Hello had almost 1k points in the first day with SALES ALONE. Dont get it twisted. Adele doesn't need mass buying fraudulence to go #1 with full confidence. Adele released "Hello" in the fall of 2015, nearly 6 years ago. People and listening habits may have moved on since then. In any case, we will know whenever she finally gets around to releasing something new.

i wonder if totc's absence will impact the charts in any way. there's definitely been instances of fans taking their data and using it to boost a song's presence on the hot 100. i can't imagine it'd be huge of course but there's something to note there I'm sure a lot of the stans will be flocking to Winston, who is a measurable downgrade from TOTC. They'll have a field day validating his clout-chasing tendencies.
