For sure. Their website sucks. Ngl, if I need any chart I just search for it on this forum and it's always a much easier read.

While I'm not an expert and annoyed by the lack of data provided by Billboard sometimes, I totally understand why they are protecting their most important product that much. It if was my job, I could do the same, or at least investigate how much it affects the traffic to the website.

I would assume the solution would be to do some cosmetics changes. For instance Acharts have named the US chart on their website as "US SINGLES TOP 100 COMPILED BY: BILLBOARD HOT 100" and Billboard seems to be totally fine with it even though the chart provides chart run graphics that Billboard doesn't provide.

I really hope Billboard's team takes into account the suggestions made by TOTC to improve their website. It was so great to have practical access to the full chart run of any song through their GOAT list, with no need to go through each Hot 100 week. Also, further transparency on the data from their part would be another positive development.

Think about what that chart would be, though.  It's basically an estimated Billboard Hot 100.  Why would that be deemed valuable after the real Hot 100 comes out?  Their entire existence is to literally talk about the charts - predicting based on preliminary data, and then analyzing it once the real charts come out.  

Plus, in order to have their own legit chart, they would have to have access and license to the data being used, which isn't cheap, or may not even be possible.  They'd also have to have their own proprietary formula that the industry wants, which they already have with Billboard.

Billboard simply has too much of a stranglehold, based on their history alone. It's like another movie award trying to replace the Oscar.  There are obviously a lot of movie awards these days, but one is still THE movie award.

I get the feeling that making their own chart, as cool of an idea as it is, is just not a high priority for them. They reiterated multiple times in their thread yesterday that they did not make their Twitter or website with the explicit intent to replace Billboard, just to serve as a helpful reference for avid chart nerds.

Maybe if more people start actively distancing themselves from Billboard for whatever reason, the TOTC team can start something, but the fact that Billboard has the backing of the music industry and were the ones to send the cease-and-desist order to TOTC will make it harder for them to gain that same level of respect beyond their core audience.

i wouldn’t say idiotic… maybe they don’t want to? It’d be nice and more valuable than the billboard chart because I’m pretty sure their rules will be very accurate to what’s popular at the moment.. but like it’s a ton of work

It almost feels like we’re entering into the same kind of period post-AATB/SIO, until Taylor released Blank Space. Then the floodgates opened, and we got songs like UF, TOL, Sugar, Earned It, and Trap Queen. After we get through the Butter/Good 4 u period, possibly with a Drake (or even new BTS) release, hopefully we can get a barrage of new music similar to late 2014, and 2022 can be the next 2015.

Next week we'll be getting Doja Cat's "Planet Her" album (including a single with The Weeknd) as well as Ed Sheeran's comeback to shake things up.

This week could have led to something with Polo G, Migos, and Lorde's comeback, but nothing had as much staying power as expected.

Speaking of Doja, I guess Kiss Me More's chance at Song of the Summer is out, even though the streaming is still consistent and the radio is continuing to grow, I doubt it'll beat Butter or good 4 u but I could be wrong.
