21. I Got You - Split Enz man this one should have made the top 20. You all really get hard -ons for Pink Floyd don't ya. Even on a Modern Rock RD. Whatever this song is perfect early 80's New Wave. I rediscovered it in the 2000's in a horror flick starting Molly Ringwald. She plays sister twins. The song plays in the background as she gets ready for her big death scene. It also starrs Kylie Minogue. "Cut" go watch it.

Not me losing my Top 2 in consecutive reveals.

I definitely should have put "I Got You" higher than I did. It didn't make much of a first impression, but after listening to it more for the mainstream rock game, it's definitely grown on me.

25. Play for Today - The CureLove this song. I have rediscovered it a few times already. It sounds like the type of Spanish rock I chart. has El Ultimo Vecino written all over it. 24. Going Underground - The JamThis one is alright. I enjoyed his accent the most. 23. Babooshka - Kate Bushidk about that frozen wife comment, but that was hilarious. If you mean when women lose their sex drive, than score another one for staying single. I don't want that happening to my would be wife. Not while I'm still in horny years. I didn't tank this for silly lyrics. I just don't get much from her ,nor her style of music in general. This is one of her better sounding ones. The babooshka part was at least fun. This sounds like it would have been a hit on a Jazz chart? 22. Train in Vain (Stand by Me) - The ClashNot very Clash sounding, but that's exactly the charm about it. It maybe their most enjoyable song before the 'Combat Rock' era. extras:Shack Up - A Certain RatioSounds like they recorded those vocals in their basement , and then submitted them to the studio. Pity because the music isn't half bad. They should have had the "shack Up" guy do the vocals instead. Loco Mosquito - Iggy PopThis has got to be out of tune on purpose? I'll pass on this one. The Hunter Gets Captured by the Game - Grace Jonesmelodically one of her better ones. Could have been a club hit too. Clean Clean - The BugglesDigging this one. Love the continuous NRG fueled music. Could have been Devo. C'30 C'60 C'90 Go - Bow Wow WowThis definitely rides on Adam Ant's percussion prehistoric vibes. i like it. On Your Radio - Joe Jacksonvery cool for Modern Rock. has a little Police in the guitarwork melodies. Makes it very Dance able. Being Boiled - The Human LeagueNot too terrible, but early Human league was a bit simple in sounds. Needs to be a tad more peppier. I'm glad they expanded on the synths ,and vocals in the second album. They also kinda bower a little bit of "Fade to Grey in that hook. Local Girls - Graham Parker & The RumourLike it. very upbeat. Graham's vocals fit the style. Like Joe Jackson and Elvis Costello. The chorus really takes it to another level. Banana Republic - The Boomtown RatsI really didn't like this one. Reggae has to have a certain sound for me to like it. I don't know what that is. I just know when I hear it. All I know is that this song doesn't have it. Warm Leatherette - Grace Jones...and more Grace Jones. Don't like the original that much so not much for me here to boast eiethr. Head - PrinceFunky ,groovy with sexually charged lyrics that rhyme head with bed as a bonus. idk why, but I feel the frantic synths parts where meant to be the actual giving/getting "head" act in musical form. Very poetic in a sexual fashion. What is there for me not to like? have I mentioned I have this album on Vinyl Duchess - The StranglersA different sound for the band. I like the more rock oriented vibes here. The guitars are played really different here. They sound paired up with another instrument that I can't quite decipher, but I like it the sound it produces. Download/check. Cruel to Be Kind - Nick LoweWhen I went back to compile my 1979 top 100, and previewed songs from that year this song immediately clicked with me. Melodic power Brit pop at its best. No wonder it almost went top 10 on Hot 100. Top 30 sounds about right for a melodic junkie like me. Video Killed the Radio Star - The Bugglesoriginally the song that anchors my 1979 top 100, but it has become so much more favorable since I first made those charts in the 1990's. I love the female backups more each time. I might even do it a top 20 if we run in to it in 1979. It all depends on how many Cars songs from 'Candy-O' we get to rank. BTW bonus Eurobeat cover of the song produced by Sergio Dall' Ora and sung by Tina Ray..

{HERE WE GO}#30: Not going to make the obvious pun, not going to make the obvious pun...if this was the Stop Making Sense version, I'm 99% sure it would have ended up in my top ten somewhere. #29: This couldn't even make my top 30 lol #28: Another instance of me admiring a song more than I love it, though I do like it a lot. #27: Damn, a near-bottom ten for this? Even in this rankdown, that seems harsh. I can concur that this song is a bit of a grower. #26: I'm genuinely a little surprised this is so high, really. #25: Look at baby Robert Smith in that video peace posted, holy crap. If not for the voice, you'd think it was a completely different person. #24: This song bangs with a capital B. #23: I know that we're talking about Kate and all, but I'm still genuinely surprised this is top 25. It's such an odd and peculiar song that I can't really fault someone for not getting into it. It speaks to Kate's enormous ability as an artist that she did make it work so well. #22: And now, for the inverse, I'm shocked this is so low. #21: My bottom half may be clear now, but I kind of wanted to see the two songs I ranked just above it get revealed first. I did not rank this song nearly this low in the other 1980 rock chart rankdown.
Holy crap, my top 3 survived into the top 20 unscathed. I'd be shocked if I got more than one of them into the top ten, and I'm not even sure about the one, at this point.

Won't be posting stats for #30-21 (had them prepped out for every 20 reveals before I changed my mind and I'm too lazy to fix that rn), but I might as well just finally get to the extras. The last two sets consist of the remaining extras that I have chart positions for, starting off with the 2nd track on All Shook Up. All Shook Up Cheap Trick
Year-End Position: #162

This band doesn't even have a Wikipedia article. All I can gather from Discogs is that they landed a record deal with Columbia, but that ultimately got them nowhere (except their drummer went on to become Robert Palmer's drummer). Seriously Affected (Rock and Roll and Love and Death) The Romeos
