I'm pretty sure artists that have 2 albums released very closely to each other have probably had that technically done. Future with his 'FUTURE' and 'HNDRXX' albums released 1 week apart in 2017 would come to mind. But obviously nothing like singles released and promoted two years apart charting simultaneously has probably been done. Maybe for a traditional album launch. FUTURE/HNDRXX was a special case. also Folklore/Evermore. Did NTLTC still chart during thank u, next run? or maybe Rihanna did it during Loud/TTT era breathin was still chatting during thank u next’s chart run. In fact the music video for breathin was released after thank u next (single) was released.

not entirely the same but Truth Hurts and Good as Hell were from eras 2 years apart and charted at the same time

It used to be more common for singles to have multiple lives (The Twist, two years apart, for one, Bohemian Rhapsody, Into The Night, When I'm With You, etc.), but it is pretty rare for a song to just stay on the charts so long that it ends up lasting until the next era nearly a couple of years off.

Yeah we've had songs bleed into other eras like Cheers from Loud charting at the same time as We Found Love from Talk That Talk, or breathin from sweetener charting at the same time as thank u, next.
But those were the final singles from each respective record, the second single from an album that had 2 more singles released after it still managing to chart (let alone in the Top 20) while the lead single from the follow-up era is also charting has never happened before. Maybe No Tears? I can't remember. Both No Tears and TYN were released within like a 7 month period while it's been almost 2 years since Blinding Lights came out. Totally different situations.

I'm suprised you guys missed this, but God Is A Woman was actually the second single from Sweetener, not Breathin', however both were actually still charting when Thank U, Next was released. NTLTC was also pretty close to still charting as well, but left two weeks before TUN's first week!

Sweetener will go down as one of the best pop eras of all time.

How many albums do you have in mind when you say that? I mean, I would probably put it at somewhere near the pop era of, say, Bryan Adams' "Waking Up The Neighbors," in terms of its popularity.

Before He Cheats was still charting when So Small debuted I believe, but that was a 3rd single.

Sweetener will go down as one of the best pop eras of all time. I mean, I'm not a big fan of the album, but those 3 singles are 10/10.

Weeknd..Meh debut on Spotify for his standards.. Do you ever fact check the bulls**t you spew or do you just want a reason to say The Weeknd is "oversaturated and flopping"? Take My Breath
Global - 4,861,544 US - 1,723,476 Heartless
Global - 5,983,842 US - 2,634,575 Blinding Lights
Global - 3,479,390 US - 1,304,173 Save Your Tears Remix
Global - 5,039,298 US - 1,723,905 Pray for Me
Global - 2,780,036 US - 1,199,263 Call Out My Name - his biggest streaming debut (at least until 2017, Spotify won't let me see stats for songs pre-January 1, 2017 so I don't have the numbers for Starboy or I Feel It Coming) Global - 6,473,226 US - 3,490,888

I think it's fair to note that for a song specifically doing a #1 campaign, what with the immediate discount, the myriad of D2C options including a cheap CD (which it seems like their fanbase responds best to), and the alternate version (extended) waiting in the wings along with the D2C-exclusive instrumental for rollout midweek if pushing, it's noticeably going under Heartless in terms of streaming. I wouldn't extrapolate these stats to their career trajectory, but I'd at least use them to posit that, unless the team gets aggressive, this might miss its goal and debut in the top 5 or top 3 instead.

Weeknd..Meh debut on Spotify for his standards..Heartless debuted with 5.9M I think that Abel's core audience moved to AM over the last year, since they are mostly regular urban/rap fans. Pop listeners, who make up most of Spotify's users, should probably gravitate to the song over the week. I do think the numbers are slightly underwhelming (I expected about 200k more) but if it'll be stable throughout the week then it'll be satisfactory. With Spotify's audience evolving over the last 2-2,5 years (from urban-centric to mostly pop) the way that songs perform there also changed quite a bit. For most artists, the peaks aren't as big, but their songs are much more stable after debuting, possibly even gaining slightly, for which Olivia is a perfect example. People consume a wider range of music there, so generally they aren't immediately exposed to the heavy hitters like they were 2-3 years ago. Look at the bottom of the charts: the songs there actually gained streams, even though the top didn't change much/dropped in streams. That is also why sales gained on power.

I was expecting well over 5M WW and over 2M in the US. Slight underperformance but not awful. I think this rules out the #1 debut unless the numbers go up, which I don't see happening.

So much for that overexposed theory What do you mean? They said The Weeknd is overexposed even though this debut and his comment would say otherwise.

By the numbers you provided, "TMB" is 4th out of 6th globally and in the U.S. on that list. That could be seen as "meh for his standards."

SYT and BL still overshadow everything else by him in people's minds. His team needs to build up the new release as "no one needed it" yet.

I'm just surprised Call Out My Name had the biggest debut numbers lol.
Anyway yeah as people have said I'm much more interested in how it holds up over the week than the debut. That's what actually matters.

I'm with you on that, he's literally... right within the range of his previous debuts.
BL debuted at #11 and fell to #52 in its second week, which was enough for people to say it flopped. Not every first single from a new era needs record-breaking streams to be a success.

tbh I expected 2M, but these numbers are good too. It's not like he's famous for huge Spotify debut numbers like Ariana, Drake or Olivia.
Just look at the Blinding Lights opening numbers, it's literally the biggest song of all time now.

It's not a big deal. TMB is only like 400 streams behind the 3rd place (SYT remix).
