That's the magic of streaming--people can indicate what songs resonate with them by streaming them over and over again, thus making them perform on the charts like singles, and giving labels and artists information on which songs need to be promoted to keep the album doing its best, in a way that was not easy to do before.

That's the magic of streaming--people can indicate what songs resonate with them by streaming them over and over again, thus making them perform on the charts like singles, and giving labels and artists information on which songs need to be promoted to keep the album doing its best, in a way that was not easy to do before. Yes and "Good 4 U" is a really great example of this, As we already know the song wasn't originally going to get a single push. The song ended up streaming incredibly well and so her Label ended up pushing "Good 4 U" to Radio. |

Yes, and if Doja's label is competent they will focus attention on songs that have resonated with the general public and change their single strategy accordingly. It is far easier to sell something that people have expressed a repeated and obvious willingness to buy, after all.

Labels aren't perfect at figuring out what is the best song. I heard "You Right" on the radio and it was perfectly passable radio filler, a song I would happily listen to driving (as I did) but not seek out personally.

You Right sounds so uncannily like Hotline Bling that whenever I've heard it at work I always sing "You used to call me on my cellphone..." in my head over the chorus.

I get why they chose You Right as the single- It sounds the most like a "hit" and is obviously more radio friendly (as we see as its climbing the radio) but I guess the GP is just more interested in the more "weirder" Doja songs. Rightfully so because they are all better lmfao. I still like You Right but it's just another pop song, it's not really special or engaging especially compared to other songs on her album

Just because it didn't have an initial radio deal doesn't mean it wouldn't have been a single. A video and the promotion for it is more than enough to obviously see it was the 3rd single. |

I don't think anyone benefits from Tiktok more than Doja Cat. Her weird music style is perfect for tiktok and ppl on that app eat it up. The way a lot of her album tracks slowly rise with time so drastically on streaming shows she's definitely one of the biggest artists in the US b/c of it. If you would've told me that she would have 3 songs in the top 10 on AM and spotify (last week) when the album dropped i would've laughed. Very surprising.

Kinda off topic ! Seeing Lizzo cry due to all the negativity and hate sheβs getting on SM has me heartbroken. Once again , itβs not enough that a woman is super talented and beautiful , she still needs to be a size 2 .

Sadly, it's not like Lizzo hasn't had to contend with this for entire life. She had two massive hits and I'm sure the same trolling then isn't that different now. Lizzo has overcome tremendous odds to get where she is now - she will be just fine. I'm looking forward to how this era unfolds for her. |

I just noticed that Bella Poarch's new single didn't chart on US Spotify at all. I wasn't expecting much chart success after Build A Bitch tbh- It'll probably do great on YouTube and maybe pop radio? But I don't expect anything else. We'll see though |
