Good thing this is a thread about the US Billboard Hot 100 then. Yeah but we're talking about perspective, and many users of the forum happen to be from outside the US (I'm not American myself) so it'd be completely understandable for Levitating not to feel as big for us as it did for Americans Then those users really shouldn't be putting their input on the discussion if it's purely about US perspectives.

There is certainly plenty of room for discussion about global hits on the Global 200, which I think are interesting because as an American music listener I must admit I am generally familiar with what is most popular among the locals here.

Stay is doing 10.2m in its 36th day, good 4 u was less than 8m. Stay is the biggest hit of the year. Itβs also smashing in Asia as every Bieber song has in 2021 which we never include to these streams. 300 MILLION streams good 4 u - 28 daysStay - 36 days..... ............. .......... ................... ....... And based on its trajectory it will get to 700m and 1b quicker than g4u. Thatβs the biggest indicator

There is certainly plenty of room for discussion about global hits on the Global 200. I'm not saying there isn't. But the discussion at hand literally is "this song looking to be #1 on the US Billboard Hot 100 Year End chart doesn't feel like the biggest hit of the year in the US." Anybody discussing perceptions and successes outside of the US are moot because it literally has nothing to do with the topic.

ew that maga thingy is on top of itunes now. good thing the audience for that is still small enough that they don't show up on spotify.
at least that's one plus side of bts.com bulk buyers.

Anyone know why that Sueco song popped off? Itβs not really memorable, in fact itβs probably one of the most basic rock songs Iβve heard in a minute. I follow da guy's music but it's making no noise on da net (mentioned 15 times in last 24hrs on bird appπ¬). But somehow it's pulling ridiculous sales & streams. My guess, he's prolly laundering money to ppl for buying & streaming π€£π€£ A tiktok from earlier this month with a snippet of the song got 9 million likes and 49 million views (and a followup got 3 million likes and 20 million views). I had no idea but apparently there was a lot of hype for this song.

I really think theyβre just pulling a Heartless and making sure the song has stability to make the year end list, and then theyβll for sure promote the stronger songs, but ainβt shit would probably be unlikely, because of its title and chorus so that might pull a Controlla or something and stick around with its lower peak so it also makes the YE.

Again I don't understand why we have to tear down good 4 u to praise STAY. Like both will be smashes and may or may not end up being remembered by the GP.
Or we can also ignore the opinions of an anti-vaxxer. That'd be cool too.

Levitating doesn't quite feel like the biggest to me, even though it was by the metrics. I guess it was just cause I don't listen to radio, and it was biggest there (although obv still huge on streaming and sales). For me the biggest feeling was probably G4U.

Levitating was never (except for the week it was blatantly robbed of #1) the biggest hit. It has just enjoyed way more longevity then any other song. So overall has ended up on top.

The anti-vaxxer poster really doesn't understand commercial success, since they've been trashing good 4 u's success all summer long despite the fact that it's been in the Top 2 on the Hot 100 since it's debut in May. Don't take anything they say seriously. yes and don't take anything seriously from this vaxxer -obsessive person..And change your picture ,I would have been embarrassed to have a picture of a flop single Imagine waking up every morning being this person ^^^

God if I only allowed myself to listen to and like singles and albums that weren't "flops"...that would be a miserable existence.

I mean, Stay has been the #1 on the RS 100 in each of its first 5 weeks. If that doesnβt tell you how big of a hit Stay is, nothing will.

TMB's performance makes me wonder what wonder what approach Abel will take with the next single. At this point he'll either release it earlier than planned (possibly even in September) or later, in 2022, when SYT and BL definitively fall off. It is still possible (even likely, looking at the gains) for TMB to stick around and be stable, something akin to Heartless, though with better radio and as such probably a longer run in the top 10, but this surely can't be what they expected. Waiting longer would be a much smarter move in my opinion, because rushing things could result only in undermining both the next single and TMB's run. Playing catch-up doesn't have to be a bad thing, since recently there were already multiple massive hits which were able to rock with it, like Circles, Blinding Lights, Watermelon Sugar or Levitating

Stay is fine. It has its issues, but it's far from the worst thing either artist has done this year, even together. And I absolutely buy it as a #1 hit, as it's been doing well worldwide.
That being said, it shouldn't have been the song to end BTS' consecutive reign at the top for good. That should've been Industry Baby, which I sadly don't see returning to the top even when the album drops.

It is such a shame that it was the one song to get robbed by Butter

So what happens if Stay gets 10 weeks? Does the Army buy Butter for two more weeks π Butter will probably be recurrent by then. Besides, Stayβs airplay amount will be too strong by the time it gets itβs 10th week at #1 for BTS to contend with, even if they wanted to try. (Stayβs 10th week at #1 will feel like a 13th week, since it was #1 on the RS 100 its first 3 weeks.)

Some of us don't forget. Imagine having seen that and complaining about the gradual fall of Mood and MEBF, songs that had legitimate mass appeal during their graceful exits due to superrecurrency.
