This should be a more obvious effect of astroturfing songs out of the gate that could definitely hurt songs in the long run.

BTS' 'Butter' Is No. 1 Again With a Week Left in 2021 Songs of the Summer Battle

The song has led each week this summer. BTS' "Butter" holds atop Billboard's Songs of the Summer chart (dated Sept. 4) with just a week left to go in the competition for the season's hottest hit. The 20-position Songs of the Summer running tally tracks the most popular titles based on cumulative performance on the weekly streaming-, airplay- and sales-based Billboard Hot 100 from Memorial Day through Labor Day (this year encompassing charts dated June 12 through Sept. 11). At the end of the season, the top song of the summer will be revealed. "Butter," a nine-week No. 1 on the Hot 100 (at No. 7 on the latest list), keeps at No. 1 on the Songs of the Summer chart over a static top five, followed by Olivia Rodrigo's "Good 4 U," Dua Lipa's "Levitating," Doja Cat's "Kiss Me More," featuring SZA, and The Weeknd and Ariana Grande's "Save Your Tears" at Nos. 2, 3, 4 and 5, respectively. "Butter" has led Songs of the Summer each week this season.

I'm low-key impressed by SYT's longevity. It outlasted both Peaches and LTDO ( much to my disappointment as it meant I lost a bet) but its been hovering around 170-180 points for a while. The craziest thing however is that I haven't heard a single soul ( not counting XO or chart watchers) actually talk about it. I asked the people in my friend circle and 4/14 had actually heard the song. Weird considering it's one of the biggest songs of 2021.

My Ex's Best Friend dropped out this week from the Hot 100 and is officially the lowest peaking song (#20) to have reached at least 52 weeks on the chart. The other six songs that did also did not manage to peak in the top 10 out of the eighty songs that have managed at least 52 weeks are: Say You Won't Let Go (#11 peak, 52 weeks), The Bones (#12 peak, 52 weeks), If I Die Young (#14 peak, 53 weeks), Barely Breathing (#16 peak, 55 weeks), I Don't Want to Wait (#11 peak, 56 weeks) and Sail (#17 peak, 79 weeks).

It actually dropped off the chart last week though and has been #1 on recurrent now for two weeks

Amber better slay. She may have only 1 top 40 hit, but she has 3 songs that charted for 20+ weeks. This Is Your Night was robbed from the top 20 (peaked at #24, charted for 40 weeks) and Sexual (Li Da Di) was robbed from the top 40 (peaked at #42, charted for 29 weeks)
