"Brandon Got Run Over By A Reindeer" Well now I wish this were the title lmao She knocks it out of the park with holiday music every time so even though I was hoping for a non-seasonal divorce masterpiece, a sequel to Wrapped In Red will do nicely. |

I didn't know we needed a Christmas breakup anthem but hey, I'm sure there's a good niche for it.
This song is alright. Her vocals are ridiculously good, and it sounds fun enough that I'll be adding it to my holiday playlists. Will it stand the test of time like "Underneath the Tree"? Probably not. But that's literally a modern classic. (Coming for the Top 10 on the Hot 100 soon, I hope.)

it kinda jumps around to a bunch of different types of Xmas songs and never really has its own identity. But that being said, it's cute and worthy of release.

So cute. I have a feeling this is what they'll push pre-December, and then the Ariana song will be the one they put all their muscle behind streaming and promo wise come December when Christmas kicks into high gear. |

After feeling a bit disappointed in the clip--which highlights the jarring transition from first chorus to second verse--I'm pleasantly surprised at how the whole song comes together. That aforementioned transition still clunks a bit to me, but everything else is right on target: and the buildup to the chorus, the catchy chorus itself, the brilliant lyrical transition to the final chorus, and damn just the lyrics themselves. So many little easter eggs and callbacks, and it feels like a very different take on a Christmas song; a perfect counterpoint to "Underneath the Tree," which I feel like is going to be the theme of the album re: Wrapped in Red.
Of course, it isn't the immaculate UTT, but it sorta couldn't be--that's her perfect, cannon-making classic. But this is a great addition to her stellar holiday catalog.
And the lyric video? Her best ever by miles and miles.

…and Mariah’s song was modeled after the uptempos on Phil Spector’s Christmas album (the most obvious one being Darlene Love’s “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)”). It’s become a very popular style of Christmas music.
This is cute, but I prefer most of the songs on her first Christmas album to this. That album felt very timeless. This doesn’t.
