stupid fight because you're both right and arguing different points

Rare is right, his next album likely won't have the same commercial success without the "controversy", but also like most artists don't ever reach his peaks with Montero, let alone the peaks of 2019 with OTR

but Dremolus is also right, like this shows that he can have the critical acclaim and put out a great album, and likely will continue to regardless of future commercial success or not

so like congrats to you both, but regardless it's cool to see Montero be able to achieve this level of success post OTR and even post CMBYN, I thought after sun goes down he wouldn't have another big hit and the album would be meh but I'm really happy to have been wrong on both points

On Sept. 21, “September” drew 1.5 million on-demand U.S. streams, according to MRC Data. That’s a 322% surge over Sept. 20, when the song racked up 352,000 streams.

Further, 1.4 million of the song’s streams on the 21st were via on-demand audio streaming services. That’s an 18% year-over-year gain on its big day: On Sept. 21, 2020, the track garnered 1.2 million clicks on-demand audio platforms.

“September” also sold 2,500 downloads on Sept. 21, 2021, a 733% vault from the day before.

Meanwhile, the song earned 2.5 million global on-demand streams Sept. 21, up 147% from Sept. 20. Removing the U.S. from the equation, “September” was streamed 974,000 times in non-U.S. territories, a 50% spike from the previous day.

“September” could impact various Billboard charts dated Oct. 2, encompassing the Sept. 17-23 tracking week. In 2020, the song bowed at No. 113 on the then-new Billboard Global 200, and it returned to Digital Song Sales at No. 19. It has bettered its position every year on the latter list since 2018, debuting at No. 26, followed by a No. 25 re-entry in 2019.

“September” was originally a Billboard Hot 100 top 10 over four decades ago, hitting No. 8 in February 1979, becoming Earth, Wind & Fire’s fourth of seven career top 10s. The group, which formed in Chicago in 1969, is currently enjoying its first top 10 in 28 years on Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart with “You Want My Love”; the single, featuring Lucky Daye, rises from No. 9 to No. 8 on the Sept. 25 survey.

I blame Columbia for this. If they really wanted IB to go #1, they would have helped him get there. I'm pretty sure another #1 (with IB) would help their label more than another week of #1 for Butter or Stay, as they were already long running #1's. The fact that they didn't shows that LNX is not the first or even second priority at Columbia.

I know it's hard to predict this stuff, but it sucks that Doja's label chose the worst single to push on radio. If you added You Right's radio points to Need to Know, it would have ~220 points - enough for #7 overall! Now with the streams starting to decline, I think it'll probably miss out on a top 10 peak.

I think Fancy Like will eventually catch up to Stay. FL has more cards to play. It’s been more than doubling the sales of Stay, despite not being discounted while Stay has been discounted weeks on end. When the discount is removed, and I’ve got to think Stay is going to peak on radio soon, it’s going to lose a lot of points in a short period of time (see what happened with Levitating after the discount was removed post-DaBaby incident). Unless BTS stans decide to mass buy My Universe for weeks on end, when Stay inevitably falls, no song is in a better position right now to slide into #1 than FL.

Elton John's new song for instance is top 10 digital but barely charting on the big chart - for example

I think Fancy Like will eventually catch up to Stay. FL has more cards to play. It’s been more than doubling the sales of Stay, despite not being discounted while Stay has been discounted weeks on end. When the discount is removed, and I’ve got to think Stay is going to peak on radio soon, it’s going to lose a lot of points in a short period of time (see what happened with Levitating after the discount was removed post-DaBaby incident). Unless BTS stans decide to mass buy My Universe for weeks on end, when Stay inevitably falls, no song is in a better position right now to slide into #1 than FL.

I like that you're consistently forgetting Way 2 Sexy exists which still has massive streaming and is already up to #24 on the kworb radio charts after just 12 days. Also even if STAY does peak soon (which might be a month or 2 from now), that doesn't mean it's going to fall so soon. You saw how slow it took for them to drop Blinding Lights and Mood and Levitating and Save Your Tears, what makes you think STAY won't have a molasses drop from the Top 10 either?
