The way sales are counted on the Hot 100 need a massive overhaul. The website sales/mass buying issue has been talked about as nauseam, but there needs to be a limit on how many weeks a song can have an iTunes discount at a time. There really is no reason why songs, especially those that have already been in the Top 10 for a long time (Stay, Bad Habits, and Butter), have multiple discounted versions on iTunes for weeks on end. What if a song starts at .69 or .99 and stays the entire time? Then it isn't a discount because it was always the price, no?

What if a song starts at .69 or .99 and stays the entire time? Then it isn't a discount because it was always the price, no? For me, I think only the first 2 weeks of the discount should the sales count as normal. After that, there needs to be a reduction on how sales are counted. In that way, we can deter the practice of keeping a song at 69 cents for weeks on end. Also, I'd be in favor of having only one version of a song on the iTunes chart counting, as well as website sales limited to one version and only for a total of 2 tracking weeks for its entire charting run.

If it's always .69 (or .99) then that's the normal price.

Adele 10/15 and 11/19.. save the dates! Source, please. Yeah, I'm skeptical because of the 11/19 date. Taylor is already releasing Red (TV) on that date, and I doubt Adele would release on the same day as Taylor.

Songs like Stay and Bad Habits reaching their peaks (finally), while older songs like G4u, KMM, Levitating, and deja vu are giving way to much newer songs like Fancy Like, Way 2 Sexy, and Shivers.

Yeah, a bit surprised Taylor Alison Swift is the only female to do so thus far. Olivia was close with Brutal at #12.

Didn’t Beyoncé delay the release of Lemonade one day in respect to Prince’s death? No. The accompanying film was announced to premiere on HBO the night of April 23rd even before Prince died.

19 times in 4 and a half years based on that list but 11 in the Covid era alone --- not exactly rare

One might even argue that the increasing weakness of the charts makes it *more* likely for songs to debut high given the general weakness of songs on sales, radio, and streaming. I suppose we will have to see if these sorts of trends continue over the next few months/years where apart from massive new album releases the general state of songs is to get 200 points or less around the #10 spot.

Keep an eye on Kacey's Breadwinner, it's been viral on Tik Tok and is holding up pretty well on streaming

For some time now, random statistical occurrences that were one time considered rare or impossible now are starting to pop up (Drake's 9 top 10's for example) or have been happening for some time with reguarity (#1 debuts for instance)
It goes more in line with the streaming era primarily but also the more front loaded marketing that the music gets, it is more about the first week splash (much like movies)

How hard is it for a single act to debut more than one song in the Hot 100 top 10 in the same week? VERY.; The more than one debut in the top 10 thing looks like it has become pretty common with big album releases actually Not really. Only 11 acts have debuted at least 2 songs in the top 10 simultaneously (if you take out DJ Khaled and Metro Boomin who technically aren't artists), it becomes 9 acts. Of those 9 names, Drake makes an appearance 6 times, J. Cole makes an appearance twice while Ed Sheeran, Travis Scott, Eminem, Lil Wayne, Lil Uzi Vert, Juice WRLD, Taylor Swift, 21 Savage and Kanye West make an appearance once. If you break it down even further, 3 of Drake's appearances aren't from album bombs. They're from him releasing 2/3 singles at the same time. Same goes for Ed Sheeran's lone appearance. Lastly, out of the 13 entries that are a result of album bombs (counting the entries for 21 Savage/Metro Boomin as 1 since both songs count for both of them and they're off a joint album), 5 entries managed to debut 2 songs in the top 10 simultaneously, 3 entries managed to debut 3 songs in the top 10 simultaneously while 4 entries managed to debut 4 songs in the top 10 simultaneously. The whole gist of all of this is that no, even for big album releases, it's not easy to debut at least 2 songs in the top 10 simultaneously. There are a lot of massive albums released from 2017-now that didn't make the list. That alone shows how hard it is to pull off.

After Minutes he has no vocals on any of his songs. He primarily produces songs for other artists but sometimes credits himself as an artist on some of them. Some other producers do that as well. Obviously, he's a producer so he's a musician and an "artist" in that sense but in this instance, I mean as someone who provided vocals for considerable parts of the songs that debuted in the top 10.

Yeah but just don't put him in the same category as DJ Khaled who literally isn't an artist
