The song burnt out on me really quick, and the fact that the iTunes discount is still on that song to pad its weeks at #1 really turned me off. I’m beyond sick and tired of summer 2021 songs like Butter and Stay, and am ready to turn the page for new #1’s at this point.

A purely organic #1, such as Fancy Like would be nice. But if we can’t get that, I’d take Adele. I’m just tired of songs with sales gimmicks, like mass buying or extended iTunes discounts, holding the #1 on the Hot 100.

Saying radio is the most reliable format and we shouldn't get rid of it but then bashing radio for holding on to songs for too long. Rooting for STAY to be the biggest hit and then saying it shouldn't deserve more weeks at #1 despite it being the biggest song in the world right now. And as I pointed out the other day, saying we should move on from songs that are less than 3 months old despite you holding on to Blinding Lights for more than half the year. The difference is that BL (as well as SYL, Circles, I Hope, Go Crazy, Adore You, etc) never really stunted the growth of newer songs. (Well, maybe Yummy, but that was an isolated case.) Stay and BH are literally caused 1.5-2 month old songs like TMB, Skate, and Rumors to peak prematurely on radio.

You're really content making shit up aren't ya? STAY and Bad Habits' run has nothing to do with Take My Breath, Skate, or Rumors - especially since they're all made by different artists. They could've all succeeded independent of each other but didn't and in the case of Take My Breath, we know it's because of bad callouts.

Also Blinding Lights did stunt the growth of a potential hit. In Your Eyes' momentum was cannibalized by being released too soon.

Bruh, Rumors wasn't becoming a big hit regardless. It's like 6 weeks old and it's already out of 200 Global Spotify, and barely sticking around in the top 100 US Spotify and Itunes (Despite it also being discounted). And I love Skate, but it's just not what I'd consider hit material. It probably got more radio run than it should've considered the numbers it was pulling. The lack of commercial success of these songs has nothing to do with runs of others.
