The problem isn't BTS debuting at #1, because when they release a single, it does, most of the time, feel like the biggest thing that week. The issue is them keeping that spot because of scummy tactics for months No, #110 on Apple Music, #23 on Spotify, and minimal airplay doesn’t feel like the biggest thing this week either.

If Adele is releasing on 11/19, then that pretty much guarantees that Levitating will go recurrent that tracking week, if it hasn’t by that point.

Say what you want about the chart tactics used to keep BTS #1 for weeks at a time, but there's nothing particularly uniquely fraudulent about "My Universe" debuting at #1. my universe is as real #1 hit as butter!! Lol the sales from BTS fans is the reason that it will debut at #1 and I hope that it will free fall hard..Adele is coming .. it's time for hot 100 to have a real #1 again Yeah. Fans are the ones who drive high debuts. This isn't unique to BTS. If a song debuts at #1, it's typically fans driving high sales and/or streaming.

My Universe is as real of a #1 hit as Butter (in the sense that Butter was genuinely probably the biggest song of the week for at least the first week or two and it only got to be an issue after that)

My Universe can get 1 week atop the chart, I don't care. When it starts haunting the number-one spot for 10 weeks, that's when it starts becoming an issue.

Nobody has to pretend like My Universe is the most popular song this week just because you want to be the rational one in the room who is being totally objective. It's fine to admit this song is a total non presence that will have no cultural impact and the vast majority of people in America will never hear, just like they never heard Life Goes On or Permission to Dance. It's fine to admit that a few thousand people are deciding your charts every week. There doesn't have to be a cute middle ground perspective on everything.

The issue is them keeping that spot because of scummy tactics for months This is simply not true. The only hits they've scored that have felt like real hits (at least in the U.S.) are Dynamite and Butter and those only felt like hits because of their longevity on the charts which was only because of the longstanding mass-buying efforts from their fans. None of their hits have felt organic because none of them are.

Butter and Stay are huge hits. There is no denying that. What sucks is that Butter was #1 when it was long past its expiration date, and it appears Stay is heading that way. There is something really wrong with the Hot 100 formula when big hits like G4u and Way 2 Sexy get only one week at #1 and IB gets blocked altogether.

It’s been consistent in every metric for its entire run.

But isn't G4U too old for radio? Of course, there is no reason why it should be still this close to its radio peak. But at least it has began to fall in recent days. Slowly but surely. I don’t like the song, but I can admit it deserved a few extra weeks at #1 earlier in its run.

Well this is a weird anti-climactic unfolding of events. Just as we're about to have our Adele orgasm, Eminem comes out with a new track, with him, Dr. Dre, and Snoop Dogg anounced as the Halftime performers! Why don't they just bring back 'N Sync and the Spice Girls while they're at it!

Adele vs Taylor would've been 2020s "Justin vs 1D" (2010s) and "50 Cent vs Kanye" (2000s). But since stan wars became more toxic now, good it's not gonna happen.

I’m glad that they went for some legends of hip-hop and R&B for this year’s Super Bowl halftime show, but I’m not looking forward to all the network TV censorship. It’s been a thing in past halftime performances (I still remember MIA giving the finger live), but it will be ramped up to the nth degree this year.

Not a lot of #1s have "cultural impact" (whatever that means, and there's likely not a way to measure that). The vast majority of people in the US don't hear really any song. The best-selling and streamed songs of all-time were not heard by the vast majority of people. And if you want to continue the "fine to admit" thing you're doing, it's also fine to admit that what a lot of people seem to want in reality, including you, is for the Hot 100 to be a copy of the streaming chart.

Literally none of these 5 BTS songs (And soon to be 6 BTS songs because of “My Universe”) that have gotten to #1 on the Hot 100 including their multi-week #1’s “Dynamite” and “Butter” have ever felt like the biggest song here in the US. Case in point “WAP” always felt like a bigger hit than “Dynamite” and “Good 4 U” always felt like a bigger hit than “Butter”, If it wasn’t for these BTS Stans constantly mass buying their songs I’m betting that none of those songs would have gotten anywhere near the Top spot.
Like others on here have said before I’m hoping that Billboard finally takes action and stops counting these mass purchases.
