That was the worst super bowl halftime show in recent memory. Eminem has done a stadium tour before. He couldnβt have provided some production contacts? Justin, Maroon 5, The Weeknd. All worse. Eminem was the highlight imo and also robbed in this halftime. I wish he done it on his own. Yeah, sure. Eminem barely did anything on that show but kneel. Of course, y'all would go straight to the white guy as if any of these other artists can't put on a show by themselves. Please.

What did anyone on the show do besides stand there and shuffle back and forth?. I grew up listening to hiphop which is why I was the one to make this thread bursting with excitement the second it was announced. I was excited to see everyone and they all are capable of doing their own halftime show. Eminem was the highlight for me because Kendrickβs transition going into the iconic Forgot About Dre was perfect with the stadium erupting. And then hearing the roar of the crowd as Lose Yourself began and hearing them rap every single word. Lose Yourself got a bigger crowd reaction than California Love didβ¦in Los Angeles. So Iβm sorry that Eminem being white bothers you, but that wasnβt why he was the highlight for me. To even suggest that him being white is solely the reason why I wanted a solo halftime from him is asinine. Weβre talking about the highest selling artist of the 21st century with an iconic catalogue. Not Luke Bryan.

This was a very weak halftime show, and I grew up regularly listening to Dre, Mary, and Snoop. Even Mary, whoβs one of my all time favorites, was just okay. βFamily Affairβ sounded off, and sheβs given countless better performances of βNo More Dramaβ.

You shouldn't impose your opinion on others. All legends performed last night, but I personally think Kendrick did the best job. Also, I agree that he was totally out of place, which is understandable, since heβs the only one who didnβt debut in the 90s, not even the 00s. Lose Yourself was definitely one of the highlights imo too. The song is timeless and the crowd reaction was great (AND Anderson .Paak). also, LOL at some people saying it was a wrong choice...

This halftime got 29M views in its first 24h. The record still belongs to Shakira and JLo with 47M.

I donβt see anyone ever topping JLO and Shakiraβs views. Even an unofficial upload has over 100 million views π. Another unofficial one has 33 million. Insane.

Which is way more than what Eminem did last night or in his career. Also, "Lose Yourself" got the biggest crowd reaction because it was the biggest hit performed and because Eminem appealed more to Middle America than anyone else on that show. Of course, it's all opinion, but Eminem couldn't carry a Super Bowl halftime solo any more than the 6-man/woman crew did together last night. It's about spectacle, and Eminem has never had that.

Eminemβs had dancers and an entire damn circus in his stage shows before. Thereβs nothing extraordinary that Kendrick did last night that Eminem hasnβt or couldnβt do. Eminem is the only one of the 6 that has headlined and sold out stadiums consistently on his own. I think heβs far more than capable. Your Lose Yourself argument only adds credence to mine. If itβs all an opinion to you now then mine shouldnβt have triggered you so much. Had I said Mary or Kendrick was the highlight for me we wouldnβt be having this conversation. Just say you donβt like Em and go.

You're right about the first part because Eminem did NOTHING last night but kneel. Mary and Kendrick actually put on a show during their sets. And you're wrong about the second part. I like some of his white mediocrity out of nostalgia.

Is there really an argument between Eminem and Kendrick? I mean, cmon on. Regardless of oneβs personal feelings toward them, theyβre two of the greatest rappers of all time and they shared a stage with some of the most iconic rappers, producers and hip-hop acts of all time. Are we really this devoid of things to talk about that we have people shaking dicks over whether Kendrick or Eminem are greater?

I don't even know a single song from Kendrick, nor what he even looks like. That's how out of place he was for me. The rest of the show was great. So nostalgic, especially Snoop bouncing around, lol. The good 'ol days. Eminem's part was the best tho, followed by Dre's ending. The stage production and visual aspect was lacking tho. Looked kinda cheap and cluttered with xtras.

In terms of staging though, I did feel like that one shot of Eminem performing and then Mary J and Snoop just like ... chillin on a couch on some other part of the stage just felt so off. Obviously you're not going to have all 6 people doing something every single time someone performs, but it made it feel more disjointed?

I enjoyed it! I also don't expect a world tour concert performance for only such and such minutes. Happy for them all to be on the mainstream screen. Give people some refreshing.

I honestly think it was too many people for it to be one of the best shows of all time. Kendrick definitely felt out of place, as the rest of the acts have at least a decade more in terms of trajectory. Not that Kendrick couldn't do it, but in terms of nostalgia he wasn't at the same level.
They did fine with the limited time.

Super Bowl Halftime shows rarely have newer songs in them so the nostalgia worked because they are Hip Hop legends at this point. It was nice to see a change of pace with Hip Hop at the Super Bowl Halftime show. Kendrick Lamar was Brought into the Super Bowl Halftime to appear for the newer generations.

What the Superbowl needs to do is give Janet another chance. In 2024, I would like to see Janet do the Superbowl. It would make it the 20th year anniversary and they owe her another chance. I remember Janet saying in her documentary that she had thought about doing it again, but changed her mind because it would be like reliving the bad memories.

I just think it was too many people. And then 50 screwed it up even more. The year Of Nipplegate was disappointing too. There was Diddy, kid Rock, Nelly and Justin but everyone forgets that. The halftime show does not lend well to multiple performers. Featured guests while a costume change is happening? Yea. Perfect.
I also just didnβt feel the energy here. The video they all did was better than the show. The staging/art direction was very odd as well.
Iβm not a basic bitch. I expect something more for something so big from these artists. If they got 30 minutes, I think it would have made a huge difference. But I will say everyone who loved this show, saying they knew all the words, would have gone batshit crazy bananas with a halftime show from Ja Rule and Ashanti 100x more than this show.
