Perfect example of the 'biggest' H100 hit from an album isn't even one of the 3 or 4 most memorable or identified hits from that project ...
01 01 When I Think Of You - Janet Jackson (2nd and final week at #1)
Elton John returns to the Top 40. He holds one record that may not be equaled - 30 straight years (1970-1999) with a Top 40 hit. It's remarkable considering he had several weak eras. Perhaps, there's hope for Madonna.

A couple instances there was the same song straddling years - so he appeared in the top 40 30 straight years but sometimes it was just the luck of timing on the calendar when the songs hit

"When I Think Of You" was the first Control single I ever heard and I still hear it in public all the time (and I've lived in 5 states across 3 time zones). It's also the 2nd most played song from the album on both YouTube and Spotify

Excluding Christmas songs/Halloween songs
Top 40 spans
Paul McCartney January 1964-June 2015 (51 years 5 months)
Elton John December 1970 = October 2021 (51 years 1 month)
Michael Jackson and a host of Christmas artists would top 50 years too if you included annual re-entries

I find it funny people are happy Twice is entering hot100 by using the same tactics BTS did but are mad at BTS when they release remixes to get their #1. It's one thing when it's a K-pop group that's never charted before notching a single there for a week and then disappearing. Nobody besides chart nerds will remember it past the week it debuted, and maybe TWICE will get to the point of being inescapable someday, but that's not their stans' main priority right now. BTS with all their remixes, alternate single covers, ARMY's mass-buying tactics, etc. is doing what they do specifically so that they can achieve concrete goalsΒ with regards to charting high on the Hot 100 and, more importantly (at least since Dynamite came out), sticking around. I'm not saying it's necessarily wrong (that's Billboard choice to deal with), but I completely understand why people are more likely to despise BTS' chart strategies than TWICE's. I get it's not as annoying as for BTS because of the charts positions but the fact these tactics worked for Twice to enter hot100 will show to the other kpop agencies they can do it too if their groups have a fanbase in US. Also boys groups stans are more dedicated, we will see when groups like NCT or TXT decide to have remixes or even physical sales to help enter on hot100, it's going to be a competition between fandoms. Korea industry/medias are obsessed with US, this is also why BTS/Armys only care about hot100, everytime they chart it's on Korean news.

Thrilled to see him in the top 40 again. One of my favorite artists!

'Blessed' had two weeks in the top 40 in 1996 (1/6 and 2/3 charts) Another one was 'Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me' (the remake version) debuted in December 1991 before hitting #1 In 1992 for 3 top 40 weeks in 1991

More age trivia Oldest living person to have a top 40 song
Moms Mabley July 1969 (75 year 4 months)
Elton John is 74 years and 6 months
(of course Christmas artists top that) - Paul Mccartney was 78 in his last top 40 appearance and will be 79 in his next one Brenda Lee is 76

What Have You Done for me Lately and Control were also considerable hits, but itβs clear that When I Think of You and Letβs Wait Awhile weβre the biggest/most recognizable hits from the album.

Are we really having a discussion that "When I Think of You" was not the most memorable or NOT EVEN ONE OF THE 3 OR 4 most memorable or identified songs from Control??? Lol...
Yes, "recognizable," "memorable," and "identified," etc. are subjective terms, but there is very little room for subjectivity here, and I think most people would agree with me.

I don't know why holiday tracks would be considered when talking about oldest act to hit the top 40 or whatever the particular feat may be. Now, if they recorded/released it at that age and it reached that peak close to that point in time, that would be one thing.
As for "When I Think of You"- though Janet J.'s recurrent play in the USA isn't the best (Adult R&B gives her strong play, though), that one probably is near the top of her most-played list.

I enjoy Janet, but I literally don't know what this particular song sounds like. Looked up the singles to the Control album... and I can instantly hum the melodies of all but 2 of them. When I Think of You is one of them. Maybe it's just a generational or regional thing?

βWhen I Think of Youβ is easily one of the Janet songs I hear the most in terms of recurrent play. Iβm actually pretty sure I hear it more than any other album singles.
I can see why someone might think of βNastyβ or βControlβ as more remembered or essential within her discography though.
Her 90s singles are just much more memorable than her 80s singles though imo. In terms of being iconic, recurrent airplay, more known, etc. Itβs the opposite to Madonna where youβd hear like 5-10 80s singles by her before a 90s one in most settings.
For the most part I still hear singes like Thatβs the Way Love Goes, Together Again, Scream, Rhythm Nation, Got til Itβs Gone, and I Get Lonely before her 80s hits.
