BL’s surge in points these past 2 weeks could fall under Halloween, like Thriller and Monster Mash, both of which are almost certain to re-chart on the Hot 100 this week. The thing I don’t like is that Billboard doesn’t have a set rule on re-entries and does it on a case by case basis. That’s arbitrary and confusing. Billboard could go either way on BL and I wouldn’t be surprised one bit on whatever outcome. It's not arbitrary. You're just insufferable and annoying af. EDIT: Comparing Blinding Lights to Thriller and/or Monster Mash shows just how much you lack comprehension. It's not that they're "Halloween" songs that allows them to re-enter, it's that there is, and I repeat, SIGNIFICANT GAINS. Tell us more about how BL's "surge in points" is comparable to Thriller's last week. I'll admit that I can be annoying on here at times, but this not one of them. BL's surge in points actually began last week. Per muchmorematt, BL had a 3.8% increase in streams last tracking week (BL's 100th tracking week since release): Again, these gains are for the tracking week 10/22-10/28, so they do not include the streaming stats for the Halloween weekend. BL should see another gain in its 101st tracking week. Whether it will be good enough for consideration for re-entry to the Hot 100 remains to be seen.

For a recurrent song to re-enter the Hot 100, it has to register significant gains within a tracking period. Uptown Funk had gains for an obvious reason. Non-holiday current hits return after the holidays for obvious reasons. A two year old song that has already peaked at #1 and charted for a million weeks is not going to re-enter just because it happens to have enough points. That would disregard the entire premise behind the recurrent rule. It’s not about points, unless the song is currently being promoted or sees a surge in activity for other reasons. Isn't this exactly the case with BL? BL has had significant gains within the tracking period. It doesn't just "happen" to have enough points. Sure it reached recurrent status only a while ago but it wouldn't surprise me one bit of they let it re-enter. Granted, I don't know if it has enough points for top 25 in the first place Admittedly, I'm not following BL's every weekly point total, so forgive me if I'm missing out on these significant gains you are speaking of. If it has significant gains and has enough points to re-enter the top 25, then by all means, yes. But also consider that if you compare it to Thiller or Monster Mash "under Halloween", BL's gains are far from significant. 3.8% gain is nothing compared to what those songs, and other songs that have re-entered, get. "Significant" is relative.

I thought it was enough to re-enter if a song gains in 2 metrics and ofc if it has enough points to re-enter. But I don't think BL will re-enter, and I kinda don't want to, 90 weeks is a great number, I'd hate 91.

"Significant" is relative when it comes to the charts. In terms of gains, we're probably talking millions of streams. It reached top 10 on AM and it will get around 700K boost from Spotify. That could be significant enough for Billboard. Or maybe it's not. No one knows.

My bad for even quasi-responding to the town clown in the first place. I didn't know that BL was experiencing "significant" gains in the last week or two, outside of moderate fluctuation one would expect with a song like BL (which is why I said "just happens to have enough points"). If it has significant gains with enough points to rank in the top 25, then sure, it'll re-enter. It's not arbitrary as some love to claim it is.

So obviously there'd be more emphasis on Thriller, Monster Mash, etc. gaining from 0 as opposed to a song that's still be regularly consumed weekly

There isn't a real way to have a 'set rule' on this issue. Songs gain and lose for many reasons, sometimes not even obvious ones. They can also gain in one metric while declining in another. At the end of the day, you just want "BL" to chart again because you love it. That is arbitrary, too. So some flop said Halloween songs didn't get a boost last year Sorry if it's been discussed, but why does "Promiscuous" get a Halloween boost?

So some flop said Halloween songs didn't get a boost last year Sorry if it's been discussed, but why does "Promiscuous" get a Halloween boost? It was featured in Spotify's biggest Halloween playlists, Halloween Party, which blends Halloween classics with regular party songs that somewhat fit the vibe.

If the Halloween-boosted songs don't manage to chart in the Hot 100, they might still manage to be in Hot 100 Recurrents or maybe even Bubbling Under Hot 100. One interesting case will be This is Halloween. Will it have the top 100 or the top 50 threshold? We'll see ...

Has anyone else experienced kworb radio updating later these past few days? Yes, and I’ve noticed that this happens every year around the time changes in March and late October/early November. The updates should go back to normal by late next week.

Regarding "Bad Habits" being predicted to go to #1 based off CD singles, I think they are overestimating the amount of CDs? Also do they take into account Adele's CD singles for sale. Adele's CDs have started shipping since a couple days ago - they could add a decent amount of sales to her downloads. I'm not sure if her casettes have started shipping yet, but they were meant to be shipping from early November - so could add some more sales before the tracking week ends.

It was the first of the Halloween songs to appear on iTunes chart, as it had been consistently charting there since mid-September. It will be interesting in future years to see if this was a fluke or if This Is Halloween is well on its way to supplanting Thriller and Monster Mash as the premier Halloween song. This Is Halloween is fairly newer than Thriller and Monster Mash.

Apparently the new Travis Scott is a mixtape titled Dystopia, which is being billed as the prelude to his highly-anticipated 2022(?) album Utopia. The jury’s out on whether it will spawn a major hit and/or a #1 debut, but given that it’s Travis and he has a dedicated fanbase that knows how to buy his singles in addition to streaming, it’s always possible.

Has anyone else experienced kworb radio updating later these past few days? Now that I managed to fix my home laptop, I did try to check it at my usual time before work and it wasn't updated yet, but at least it wasn't blank. The latter seems to be a sign of an unsucessful update and seems to get longer to get an update after it.

How in the hell would Ed sell 50k copies of his single when the album can barely sell 80k? 20-30k CDs maybe but 50 is too much in my opinion and a bit shady.

^^There's a gimmick involved. "Limited Edition Bad Habits Digitally Animated CD Single. Open up our Bad Habits AR Experience on @edhq Instagram and scan the CD Cover. The cover art will come to life on your phone as well as play the song. You can record the CD animation and share it with your friends on any social platform."

It could go either way if you ask me, the snippet for One Right Now has over 8 millions views and it'll definitely get streams and airplay but it's still Travis Scott so we'll just have to wait and see.

Pop radio is already getting on board actually, "Happier Than Ever" has gained 82 spins on today's Mediabase update, And it's now almost in the Top 20 on there.
