Did Taylor write her verses on the remix? Very rarely does she “miss” with her songwriting, but her verses are cringe and detract from the song. The original flows so well and there are some clever word choices, but Taylor’s verses are too damn on the nose. What used to be a subtle nod to poker/cards was made to be super apparent and in your face. I also hate the cheap echo effect they used on her verses.
I MUCH rather have had her just sing one of Ed’s original verses and then them harmonize on the chorus.

I disagree that Taylor's writing here is any more on the nose than the original song. the poker allusion was never subtle to begin with, so I don't think Taylor's verses stick out in that way. it's not her most creative and intellectually stimulating writing, especially post- folklore, but I don't think that's what this song ever was. No. 21 is a pretty solid debut for how boring and uneventful this release was. will likely fall off the Hot 100 very quickly. |

A #21 debut is pretty good debut for Taylor And Ed,their last major collaboration End Game from Reputation peaked at #18 back in 2018. Run from Red Taylor’s Version wasn’t an official single so I don’t count that one. Still a good debut nonetheless.

Will never understand the thought process behind picking this song to remix with Taylor and push. It's just so dull. I agree, I actually like the song itself (the remix moreso than the original) but I don't understand why his team thought this sounded like a single. A wasted opportunity if you ask me, they could've had Taylor on a more single-ready song/had her on his lead single from his next era. |
