I like Rhythm Nation more now than I did 10 or 15 years ago tbh. At one point it may have been my least favorite single from the album (depending on which version of Alright we're counting), but now I prefer it to both Escapade and Black Cat as well. 

If only Come Back To Me had gone #1, then it could have sailed to the top here with minimal complaints.

5. Poison - Bell Biv DeVoe

After the success of the Heart Break album, the member of New Edition chose to go on hiatus to pursue side projects. One of those side projects was formed by the trio of Ricky Bell, Michael Bivins, and Ronnie DeVoe. Their first charted single "Poison" was an instant smash, reaching the Top 5 on the Hot 100 and going platinum. It also helped push its album of the same name to quadruple platinum status.

"Escapade" was Janet's seventh consecutive #1 on the R&B chart, and third straight from her Rhythm Nation 1814 album. Partially inspired by Martha & The Vandellas' "Nowhere To Run", it also topped the Hot 100 (and was one of the album's seven Top 5s on that chart). "Escapade" also hit #1 in Canada and Japan and was one of the inspirations for Britney Spears' album Britney Jean.

3. Rhythm Nation - Janet Jackson

Janet's second release from Rhythm Nation 1814 was her second straight R&B charttopper from that album, and was sixth in a string of seven consecutive R&B #1s. Built on a sample of Sly & The Family Stone's "Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Again)", the socially conscious song also reached the Top 5 on the Hot 100.

The music video was part of the long-form Rhythm Nation 1814 film, which won a Grammy for Best Long Form Music Video.
