Today's extras are essentially two different versions of the same song. The first version features samples by "Love's Gonna Get You" by Jocelyn Brown, "King Of The Beats" by Mantronix, and "Let The Words Flow" by a rapper from Jersey City (all of which were done illegally). This version was also released in the US (under a different name and with that rapper receiving credit), peaking at #53 on the R&B chart.
The Power - Power Jam feat. Chill Rob G
That original version was released in Europe by this German eurodance group. The second, and much more well-known version, was re-recorded with different lyrics by rapper Turbo B and additional vocals by Penny Ford for release in the US. By this time, the samples were cleared, and the song topped the rap chart and peaked at #4 R&B and #2 on the Hot 100. It was also a worldwide smash, hitting #1 in 6 countries and reaching the Top 10 in many more.

Today's extras come from her Rhythm Nation 1814 album. First, the follow-up to her #1 hit "Escapade". It topped the dance chart and peaked at #2 on the R&B chart and #4 on the Hot 100. It samples "Think (About It)" by Lyn Collins and "Do You Like It" by B.T. Express, and was nominated for 2 Grammy Awards for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance and Best R&B Song.
The music video features the legendary Cab Calloway in one of his final appearances.
Alright - Janet Jackson
Next, a song that Janet wrote and co-produced (with Jellybean Johnson) that deals with addiction to drugs. It topped the Hot 100, peaked at #10 R&B, and was nominated for a Grammy for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance.
The video mix features Nuno Bettencourt of Extreme on rhythm guitar.

“The Power” had such a convoluted history with the crediting and sampling. Chaka Khan was supposed to record the vocals, but she got Penny Ford to do them instead.

Chill Rob G’s OG version of “The Power” will always be superior to the more popular version imho. I enjoy both versions though
