hi guys, it’s fire, and yep, i’m hosting the 2021 hot 100 rankdown. this’ll undeniably be the biggest rankdown i’ve ever hosted, so i hope i do well here lmao

i think this was a pretty good year for the hot 100, but that said 2020’s year-end didn’t have anything as bad as the worst of the 2021 year-end, because honestly my bottom 3 here would’ve been my last place there lmao

oh yeah, and this was the first year since 2011 where a solo female had the #1 song of the year

here are a few rules because i know we’re gonna get many new people:

-if you choose to send for this rankdown, rank these songs from best (#1) to worst (#100) and PM your list to me (@/justchillinreturns) before the deadline. whether you number your list or not is up to you, as long as you send it from best to worst

-you are welcome to make any edits to your list as long as it’s before the deadline, but don’t get excessive with it

-whether you leave the artist names in or not is up to you, but please format your list the same way i've typed up the songs in this post, the way i styled it makes it much easier for me to insert your list (and less prone to errors in your list). this is important since i’m gonna be dealing with a lot of lists and i might not be paying attention as much so even the tiniest change in the formatting that i don’t notice can cause a big error that i likely won’t notice until i actually start revealing, and i don’t wanna deal with that hassle lol

-for simplicity’s sake, the versions i’ve listed in this post and the versions in the spotify playlist are the ones that were credited on the year-end list, however if there are multiple versions of a song that were a big part of its chart run, you can rank either version (and you don’t need to tell me which version you ranked)

-please rank the songs honestly, don't tank a song just to help another song win. you're no fun if you do that

-you might notice that “all i want for christmas is you” is not on this list. it did make the year-end list (at #78), however because it’s likely to be an issue where christmas songs will be making the year-end lists for the years to come, to prevent us from ranking it every year, i removed it and replaced it with the projected #101 (the “goosebumps” remix by travis scott and hvme). “rockin around the christmas tree” will still remain on though since it’s the first time it’s made the year-end list

-if i make any errors, please don't hesitate to let me know!!

This is probably the worst year end list ever. So many garbage songs, but luckily there are still some very good songs here. Rap and R&B is at their lowest points ever. They don't produce many great songs anymore. Pop was alright and Country was up and down. I'm ready to have the worst closeness because some songs that I will have low will be in for a long time especially my likely 100.

Thank you for getting rid of Mariah's Christmas song. Would have been 99 for me.

I agree that 2009 wasn't good, probably the worst of the 00s, and 2018 was a mixed bag, had some of the best while also having some of the worst, but I don't think that 2014 was that bad, I actually think it is better than 2013 just slightly. I do still think that 2021 is the worst because, not as many memorable songs will come out of it compared to previous years. 5 years from now, how many songs of 2021 will actually hold up and be remembered well compared to most 2010s songs?

I don't think anyone could tank it. Doesn't seem like one that could be tanked. Maybe some 60s or 70s at lowest. It will probably be a lower standard deviation song. I think it can make the top 10 easily but don't think it will be close to number 1, thinking somewhere like 6.
