The thing is, there is no prediction from any predictor whatsoever (this is pretty odd for a Friday, considering the first prediction is usually available by Wednesday morning), so I have no idea if EOM is locked for the 7th week at #1 on the 12/18 chart. It’s possible AIWFCIY or even RATCT could be #1, but until we get a prediction, we can only speculate.

At peak last year "AIWFCIY" was in the 30-35 million impressions range, and it's the top holiday song in airplay. Isn't "EOM" currently in the 85-90 million range? That's a huge lead, especially since it's also ahead of the holiday songs in sales. It will take a huge streaming lead for a holiday song to overtake "EOM."

So I guess Christmas songs overtaking the #1 (and beyond) the past couple of years had less to do with the strength of those songs and more to do with the weakness of Circles and Mood? Or was it more a combination of both?

Holiday songs do seem a bit down in streaming as compared to last year (not sure about 2019). Additionally "EOM" is currently higher than in impressions (and streaming) than "Mood" was this time last year. Having said that, it's just December 10. There is still more than 2 full weeks of holiday streaming and airplay to go.

Yeah, Holiday 2020 was an outlier because of Covid, I think comparing to 2019 makes more sense, but it's also hard sometimes based on tracking weeks.

I agree. 2021 is hard to compare to any other year because the last time we had this calendar (when Christmas fell on a Saturday), was in 2010, and at that time Christmas songs were still ineligible to chart (not to mention, our way of consuming music is different now than it was then).

Yeah holiday songs get more streams on Amazon than on Spotify, which isn't usually true for other songs. We can compare overall streams from this year to previous years, but even that is a little tough because as has been noted, it isn't a perfect parallel since Christmas changes the day it falls on each year.
