I felt awful placing "happiness" last in my ranking because I actually think it's an amazing song. The issues for me are that it's just a little too long and meandering and it's placement in the album makes evermore drag in the middle just a little bit. Lyrically it's top notch but musically it's the least exciting track from either album and one of the few I would never choose to listen to without listening to the whole album.

Happiness is gorgeous, I am kind of shocked it's already out. Hoax is pretty good too and could've lasted a little longer. I'm fine with the other two reveals though.

I’m sad happiness is out already. I might have ranked it fairly low on the original rankdown of the album, I forget. I think it’s one of the (several) songs across these albums that I appreciate more heavily because of the lyrics and meaning rather than the songs and melodies themselves. One of my favourite qualities about this pair of albums is how understated many of the songs are. (And is probably why I ranked some of the more melodic or upbeat songs lower 😬).

By the way, we have a thing going on where we're keeping track of each individual album's average throughout the rankdown! I believe born came up with this, so I'll let him explain more in depth if he wants to ;) but it's essentially a competition between the two sisters to see which album Pulse thinks is better. Feel free to tell us if you're on team folklore or team evermore! Just catching up on this now. It’s really hard to choose but I think I’m on Team Folklore! :) |

I'm team evermore and always have been since it dropped last December.
I re-listened to all 34 tracks again while waiting for this to start and that confirmed it for me. The narrative shifts between Betty-James-August and other teenage themes and Taylor's own life on folklore irk me and the soundscapes don't pull me in as much. I enjoy folklore and adore specific songs, but it never quite gelled for me but evermore just fit like a glove or a warm blanket.
It is breathtaking from start to finish (except closure) and just pulls me in like a walk in through snow-covered woods: soundscapes, lyrics, creative choices, it's just a masterpiece.
I even received it on vinyl for Christmas and let out a squeal b/c my Target was sold out of it.
Needless to say, I echo everyone who is also sad to see happiness out so soon.

I saw the Betty video and instantly thought OH NO THEY DID NOT.
I wasn’t a part of previous rankdowns and haven’t checked out the threads, so it’s super surprising to hear No Body No Crime won for Evermore. I would be disappointed if it was even in the top 5 here.
I have a “big 5” from Folklore and I honestly feel like any of the 5 would be a great overall winner. They actually trade places a lot for me when I rank them and are all pretty much equally amazing IMO.

there’s nothing I really want to see go except maybe cowboy like me but I know that has a lot of lovers so it’s gonna stay for a while

I really hope we can get a new winner, I can see Cardigan taking it this time, maybe exile or even champagne problems
3. Will folklore or evermore score better in this rankdown?
folklore will have a better average I think, maybe evermore will surprise us though

1. I think "Cowboy Like Me" seems to have enough naysayers to get eliminated very soon. I'm kind of worried about my #33 doing well, but I hope I'm wrong. It's from folklore, a track that just didn't really do anything for me on first listen and felt weaker than everything else on the album. 2. I'd like to see any of my top 3 take it, and from what I witness in the thread, it seems very possible. 3. I'm sure folklore will prevail, but hoping to see "willow" still place in the top 5. |
