Great news for Spectrum Pulse, who recently announced that he tested positive for COVID and lost his voice in the process. He’ll be happy to learn that he now has an extra day to recover before making the next Billboard Breakdown episode. Hope he gets well soon.

The Red Baron" hit number 2, two other "Peanuts"-linked songs - one of which also mentions characters in its title - may [finally] make their Hot 100 debut!

Between 1963 and 2013 there were really strict charting rules for Christmas songs.
Year of release only and must have a physical single

Why were those rules established in the first place?

It's not even a particularly interesting week so why are we in a rush to see Mariah and Xmas on top again? lol. Let the BB people take a day off.

I thought all the calculating was just done by computers. I don't understand where any human involvement lies

Gary- weren't holiday singles barred from charting, no matter old or new? Exceptions were made, of course (see "Do They Know It's Christmas?").

A number of Christmas songs actually charted between 1963 and 2013.
The common factor was first year of release which was the rule until 2013.

phieaglesfan712 actually made a reasonable point, There is honestly no logical reason that I can think of as to why Billboard has decided to delay their Charts, Even if we will still be in the Holiday season. This Monday will of course land on the 27th of December, Literally two days after Christmas. So this is just pointless. When a Holiday falls on a Saturday, some places of employment observe it on Monday, just saying. Correct. I work for the state of South Carolina, and we get Christmas day tomorrow (Monday) and then get the Day After as a holiday on Tuesday. So, technically we are automatically off Friday-Tuesday when you include Christmas Eve. I wish someone would try to tell me I need to work on those days so they could have a chart or something lmao!

Yeah, that one's in a weird spot because with the 1999 chart year having just allowed airplay-only songs to chart, Billboard was being more lenient than usual about what was considered current to begin their runs. It just so happens that with All I Want for Christmas is You, its first few years had it still building groundswell, so holiday 1998 wasn't where it managed but instead holiday 1999, where it charted for one week at #83 on the chart dated January 8, 2000. Any further holiday seasons, including holiday 2000, had it treated as a recurrent (and even Hot 100 Recurrents didn't allow seasonal songs until the 2001 holiday season!), with no reprieve until the rule change in 2012.

I technically have a day off today for the Christmas day.

^In my case, on the 24th we had a half day off by our country's law and the other half we had remote work for it. We'll probably have something similar for the 31st.

What were the AC rules at that time? The week "AIWFCIY" finally charted on the Hot 100 represented Christmas week of 1999, so the 6th holiday season "AIWFCIY" was around. "AIWFCIY" was #62 on overall Hot 100 airplay, and it was #10 at AC radio. In terms of AC radio, it was the highest ranked holiday song. The others were "Feliz Navidad" (#12), "This Gift" (#14 and in its first season), and Gene Autry's "Rudolph" (#24). I know AC radio has gone even more to holiday music now than then, but it seems odd only 4 holiday songs were on the chart since older songs could apparently chart at that time.

If only four holiday songs were new and had enough chart points to chart, how is that odd?

It would depend on whether those classics had charted before in bygone days and simply not counted as "new" given the 1963-1998 freeze.

Wasn't it late 2000 when Mariah released the So So Def remix of AIWFCIY? Maybe that has something to do with it?

^That may have been combined with the original, though the featured acts were not credited on the chart. Funnily, the Top Pop Singles book erroneously noted the So So Def mix was the one that charted at the time.

Regardless it doesn't explain "FN" and "RTRNR" getting to re-enter.

It's 7pm but still no BB200 chart. It's up now, no surprise that 30 topped it again.
