January is apparently when Ed Sheeran drops The Joker and the Queen remix with Taylor Swift which, if true, I expect to be real the first real hit of 2022. Are we sure it’s not going to end up like their last collaboration? Unless the song is really hyped up or leaked but fans want them to drop it officially, i don’t see big name collabs doing anything unless they are truly lucky and the GP likes the song.

Their last collaboration was just bad timing. They released that right as Perfect was at its peak. If they had waited a few more months for Perfect to die down a bit (and released when Delicate was actually released), I’m sure it would have done better.

Taylor Swift has a dedicated fanbase and Ed is a radio darling so it could work. Also big names do work, not all the time but they do work.

I’m gonna be really disappointed if Ed decides to push that remix of TJATQ as his next single and not the excellent Overpass Graffiti, though I’m hoping against hope that OG will be a successful 4th single anyway.

So Mariah will have two weeks at #1, confirmed basically. Does anyone think the streaming from just two days, the 24th and 25th could get her 3 weeks? Probably not possible.

^Agreed. To remind people, it managed to be #9 with one day of activity in the corresponding week last year.

Exactly, which just proves to show that comments such as the original poster's can literally be said about any top 10 for any week in the entirety of Billboard's existence. So true! No one should ever make any posts with opinions in them because nothing anyone can say is original No, I mean I don't disagree that people should be able to share their opinions, I just thought your comment seemed to be an abrupt derailment of the topic at hand and was particularly unoriginal (those type of comments are made almost every week after Soulsista posts the top 10 flashbacks... "this is the absolute best" or "worst Top 10 of all time", etc.). I'm not against people saying they like/dislike a certain week's top 10, but like, at least elaborate on what you do or don't like about it.

I Hate U, abcdefu, and Super Gremlin are shaping up to be the first "2022 hits". Enemy also seems to be gaining some real traction. And of course I'm rooting for Oh My God!

Since Easy On Me is most likely returning to #1 after Christmas, I wonder what will be the first 2022 #1 song after that. Rooting for abcdefu, though I won't be surprised if Glass Animals put out a quick remix with some big name rapper to get Heat Waves to #1

Who will be the first new #1 of 2022? Maybe that should have been a poll question.

It's the weekly Hot 100 thread, there is no such thing as a derail. Especially when I was...quoting a post 9 posts ago? and the two posts above mine were someone asking a simple question and someone else giving a simple answer? What important investigation could I have been barging in on? But anyway, I'm sorry the shortness of my post ruined your day; I and everyone else care a whole bunch about abiding to your standards I'm sure, and from this point on I'll be certain to have the Chicago Manual of Style at hand whenever I open Chart Discussion

Maybe this has been discussed before but is Mariah getting lackluster playlisting or something? No other reason I can think of that would result in her song being "just" #3 on Spotify. Well as far as I'm aware "All I Want For Christmas Is You" is still being included in multiple holiday playlists on Spotify. Maybe certain people have gotten sick of "All I Want For Christmas Is You", And are streaming "Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree" and "Jingle Bell Rock" on Spotify instead. There are some popular playlists that only have pre-1980s songs where the older songs get plays the newer ones do not, but people are choosing those "classic" playlists so I don't see an issue with it. There are playlists that cater to new songs as well. "AIWFCIY" (and "Last Christmas") are in a weird place where they're too new for some playlists and too old for others. Clode

^Agreed. To remind people, it managed to be #9 with one day of activity in the corresponding week last year. It's misleading to say it had 1 day of activity last year. December 26 is still a huge day for holiday streaming, so last year it had 2 solid days of streams (plus the airplay week went through Sunday last year, so it had the full week of Christmas airplay count last year). This year it will thus have 3 solid days of streaming count in that extra week, and it will have 2 days of really solid airplay.

Its way too early to think about this on 20th Dec. Anything can happen... A debut can pop out of nowhere from any artist just like Drivers License did for Olivia. Rap can be on the up and upswing, maybe even Roddy can rebound or neither could happen It's also possible Ed + Taylor can work magic with music or maybe not. The only thing I am sure of, are songs that are high and stable on all 3 metrics have the better shot - post Christmas.

The only thing I am sure of, are songs that are high and stable on all 3 metrics have the better shot - post Christmas. A one hit wonder could come back and have a second hit either on their own track or as a remix like Billy Rae Cyrus on OTR A song that is currently underperforming or on a downward spiral right now could eventually rebound and become one of the top 5 biggest hits if not the biggest hit of the year like Blinding Lights A front loaded smash at the beginning of the year like Driver’s License or The Box could actually stick around and get the #1 YE spot which hasn’t been done since both Shape Of You and God’s Plan Drake could decide to take the whole year to himself like he did in 2018 Someone could work with Bieber and have a smash hit like Despacito or Stay Post Malone could actually rebound from his underperformance and finally get a #1 YE just like Mariah back in the early 2000s just shorter this time Or something totally unexpected, uncalled for and a new gimmick comes out of nowhere and takes us all by surprise These charts are unpredictable and i love that about them. I know for a fact no one expected the past 3 YE #1s to be the songs that they are and they all had different ways of achieving them with their own unique runs. It’s still too early to guess, especially in December when the calendar year for 2022 hasn’t even started yet.

Just 5 days after it's release and Roddy Ricch's new album is already down to just 2 songs (at #8 and #10) in the top 10 of US Apple Music and you can't even blame that on an influx of Christmas songs because only 1 Christmas song is in the US Apple Music top 10 (AIWFCIY). The album is also basically non-existent on Spotify. Juice WRLD's latest album had a much better streaming performance and still only managed to debut with 119k units. I feel like Roddy Ricch's album may barely pull off a 100k-unit debut or even miss the mark altogether.

Abcdfu is gonna be the first new #1 hit of 2022, it's still gaining on streaming and it's far from peaking at radio.

53(-5) Doja Cat - Woman 473,470 (-58,552) So this is #14 without Christmas songs? A smasha incoming. Hasn't it been higher than that several times already? It was #12 on weekly chart even back in October.

I'm pretty sure there will be another version of Abcdefu to start the new year, perhaps featuring The Kid Laroi or someone like that.

We love your predictions keep them coming It's surprising - some would even say shocking, but I actually agree with him on this one. Not necessarily on it getting #1, but that it'll peak high, and stay in the top 10 for a chunk of the year (similar to Don't Start Now)

Gen Z just isn’t that into SpotifySpotify may be popular among boomers, Gen Xers and millennials, but Gen Z is decidedly less infatuated. “We could be doing better in that group,” CEO Daniel Ek admitted, per Bloomberg. To attract listeners born between the late 1990s and early 2010s, the streaming provider is squaring off against TikTok. Both sides are going on the offensive: TikTok recently launched its own music streaming service in a handful of emerging markets, while Spotify is testing a new feature that sets portions of songs to videos.

Curious whether "You Make it Feel Like Christmas" by Gwen could debut on the Hot 100, it's grown tremendously this year and looks to be pretty close already I think.

^No, it debuted #16 on the Hot 100 Recurrents chart for 12/25. Which means it needs to be in the top 50 of the Hot 100 to debut. I think it is unlikely it will manage to do so this season.
