It sometimes question how 2015 ended up being so much better than 2014, they seem like polar opposites quality wise. Same with 2015 and 2016. I still can't believe they are consecutive years because they each sound so different.

Since this is a New Years dated chart it's a bit appropriate. Past 20% of the decade (in Billboard's tracking period), and here's my projections for the Decade-End so far. Hot 100 & Billboard 200 Artists: Artist of the Decade, using the 2010s formula:

Look at Mariah getting there as the only non-streaming era (and one of the only not featured on 213 songs) artist! Was streaming really a thing in 2005, when Rihanna debuted? True. In that case, both Rihanna and Chris Brown are “non-Streaming” artists. Also, technically speaking, streaming did exist back in the early 2000’s. It was just never a part of any chart formula and Mariah Carey was a pre-Spotify/AM streaming magnet... “We Belong Together” was the most streamed song of 2005 on AOL, according to HDD, as well as the most searched. “Don’t Forget About Us” was the fifth most streamed song of 2006 on AOL. 😂

Since we're talking about each year of the 2010's musically, I'll give my personal opinion on each year (hopefully this isn't too off-topic):
2010: Great but everything sounded the same 2011: 2010 on steroids, and cleaner production 2012: THE PEAK OF MUSIC 2013: Great, so much variety! 2014: Great 2015: Pretty good, but a bit too corporate and minimalistic 2016: Decent 2017: Meh, trap was mainstream at this point and I HATED it at first 2018: Objectively the worst year of music in the decade 2019: AMAZING. This is when trap and pop merged, rhythm and melody combined in new ways 2020: Very mixed. Some great stuff, some crap 2021: AMAZING! I love the current direction music is headed in
Again, if this is too Off-Topic feel free to let me kno

Oof, what an awful period for pop music. I only (barely) like one of these 11 songs, and it's not any of the top 10. E veryone's taste in music is different. I think this was an AMAZING top 11 Exactly, which just proves to show that comments such as the original poster's is pointless because it can literally be said about any top 10 for any week in the entirety of Billboard's existence.

How the top of the charts looked like in late 2014 when Title was supposed to be the 2nd single before being pulled in favor of Lips Are Movin: <button disabled="" class="c-attachment-insert--linked o-btn--sm">Attachment Deleted</button> most horrifying thing about that chart is seeing that Maroon 5 have been popular for that long Oh, the terror..... If that's what you honed in on from that list, girl you're just looking for ways to be horrified by them.

Exactly, and i think Billboard allowing album bombs is also playing a role here, Rihanna and Mariah's stats are indeed impressive as they didn't get those 10+ entries or weeks in every album release.

(Disclaimer: this is a personal opinion regarding how boring the charts get now that this happens every year, in no measure whatsoever is this a comment trying to trigger this week's routine analysis on how the rules are flawed for some reason because "All I Want for Christmas is You" is bound to overtake "Blinding Lights" in a few years). V. excited to see what rebounds next year and which songs get left behind.

I really have no clue, but my stock answer to questions like this nowadays is “TikTok?” My guess is that there was probably a commercial. That usually explains rapid random increases on iTunes. Songs that go viral on TikTok usually see an increase in streaming.

Maybe this has been discussed before but is Mariah getting lackluster playlisting or something? No other reason I can think of that would result in her song being "just" #3 on Spotify.

Well as far as I'm aware "All I Want For Christmas Is You" is still being included in multiple holiday playlists on Spotify. Maybe certain people have gotten sick of "All I Want For Christmas Is You", And are streaming "Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree" and "Jingle Bell Rock" on Spotify instead.

I did say that All Too Well could have a FAA type run if Taylor’s team made a full radio push.

For the first time this year, the entire Top 10 of Spotify is entirely comprised of Christmas songs. Zzz see y'all in January lol. It would be a bit more exciting if RATCT would give Mariah a run for her money or if there was more of a rotation with the Xmas songs on top or entering the top 10.

If this gives us an idea of what the charts will look like after the Christmas freeze, get ready for a few days of no songs getting 1M streams FWIW, this happened last year, too, and things didn't really start to recover to pre-Xmas levels until around the time Dangerous and Drivers License dropped.

Ah yes, the "streaming is dead" couple of weeks on Pulse. Good times.

It’s got to partially be because of Xmas songs taking away from other songs. When people stop playing xmas music, they’ll replace it with newer music again, so I’m sure we’ll see a bump for some songs back to over 1 million. I think that’s why Easy on Me has taken such a big hit, people streaming Adele are far more likely to play Xmas music, I would assume.

We started last chart year with a Taylor album bomb + number one debut, Morgan Wallen, SZA having a streaming hit, and Olivia. We're on track on repeating that

Is Gayle going to be 2022’s version of Olivia?

January is apparently when Ed Sheeran drops The Joker and the Queen remix with Taylor Swift which, if true, I expect to be real the first real hit of 2022.
